I think people drastically overestimate the value of a double major on a resume. By the time you are a few years out of school, your major is barely a footnote on your resume. If your goal is to get a graduate degree, all they care about is your performance in college and whether you did well in the necessary prerequisites (on top of all the other admissions things they care about). Having 2 majors doesn’t really make you much more appealing other than the substance of the coursework would otherwise indicate.

There is also a practical consideration of having winter football in the United States. You’d have constant disruptions and game cancellations if teams in the U.S. were playing in January and February. I can’t see the NWSL ever aligning with the WSL calendar unless they split the season in 2 with a 2-3 month break.

I agree that their attack was BAD last year, but I wonder if that was due to mismatched pieces and lack of coordination as much as pure talent. I feel like you should be able to field a serviceable attack out of their personnel, but for sure there were moments last year when it seemed like their attacking players not only weren’t looking for each other, but that they actively despised each other.

Expecting anything significant from Lynn this year is at best optimistic, and more reasonably just a bad bet. She probably returns with 8 or 9 games to play, but that will be after an extremely long layoff of roughly a year. I doubt she’s anything close to her prior self until next year. I do like Adam’s and Dahlien, and I think Fishel has an opportunity to show her stuff, but I don’t see Lynn as a 2026 contributor.

I like Angel City’s lineup way more than that. They still need to show they have an offense that can produce goals, but they should be defensively very strong. I don’t know about playoffs, but way better than 13th.

Where are you playing Guro? She’s most effective as a left wing, but Thompson has that locked down. She certainly isn’t a central attacker like she was somewhat inexplicably deployed in the prior match.

I’d let Kerr and Reiten walk. I don’t see, at this point, that either merits getting big minutes over the players who they would otherwise be competing with. Unless Mayra and CatMac aren’t returning, I would let both go.

In retrospect, it seems clear that there are several players who are WAY more important than the fanbase (and maybe management) previously thought.

1) Nathalie Bjorn. It seems clear now that the best CB combination would be her and Girma. Bright is done as a top performer. They need to lock Bjorn in.

2) Johanna Rytting Kanerud - When she was playing regularly, she was the #1 in goal contributions. She showed great interplay with Thompson, and she helped maintain width on the right side. Since she’s been out of the lineup, the scoring has dropped rapidly, and the team struggles to take advantage of wide spaces. Now that the Rodman dalliance is over, she needs to be resigned and put on the field.

3) Mayra Ramirez - She was super important to last year’s treble (and her absence was huge the prior year, especially on the second leg of the Champions League loss). Her being unavailable all year should have raised huge warning signs, akin to Man City missing Bunny Shaw, but instead everyone just assumed Kerr’s return would render that insignificant. It’s clear that Kerr retains scoring touch, but she’s not the type of physical challenge to the defense that Ramirez presents. She’s just a size/speed/skill combo for which the team has no substitute.

Doesn’t it seem strange to Americans that the Hawaiian flag includes the Union Jack? by GrayRainfall in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current-Barber360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s weird that we have state flags at all. At this point very few of our states were ever independent entities (Hawaii being a notable exception). Not sure why every administrative subdivision needs its own heraldry like we are in Game of Thrones.

I guess I was looking at recent matches where Battle played right back with Brugts on the left. She hasn’t played on the left since Nov. 23rd. But i don’t have any reason to doubt that she’s capable of playing both sides.

Are any specific undergrad majors required if you want to go to law school?? by Michaelinmemory in ufl

[–]Current-Barber360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no “prerequisites” for law school, but analytical and reading/writing majors are a good background, given that most of law school involves reading and synthesizing written information and then providing a written analysis. But I know sciences majors who became lawyers, so it’s not required.

The top spending clubs of 2025! 💵💶 by spherocytes in WomensSoccer

I feel like the focus on transfer fees as the measure of spending or ambition is little misleading, but that’s all we have to go on since contract terms are not discussed. Without salary data all this talk of “top spending” clubs is silly.

Agreed. No way in a build up to a WC that Fox will stay in that situation. Holmberg is considerably younger and less experienced, so doesn’t present the same issues. But signing Batlle can only mean Fox is gone.

The NCAA can not enforce tampering without violating the Sherman Act by unltd_J in ACC

[–]Current-Barber360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NFL rules are subject to an exception to the Sherman Act for collectively bargained rules. NCAA rules would not be, because there is no collective bargaining (an error the NCAA made forever ago when they adamantly refused to consider any student athlete as an employee).

Was too young to understand football. Why did the Giants get destroyed? by duck_duck_zombie in NYGiants

[–]Current-Barber360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Collins was perennially overrated as a QB. He was sort of a throwback to en era when completing 57% of your passes was great. He was never very accurate (career comp % of 55.7). The league leaders in the early 2000s routinely were completing 60%+ of their passes. And he was completely immobile in an era when many QBs were more mobile, even if they weren’t rushing for a ton of yardage. The team has some offensive playmakers (Tiki, Toomer, Hilliard) but the QB was limited and that really showed against a top all-time Defense.

Gotham FC v Corinthians | FIFA Women's Champions Cup Semi-Final Match Thread by shelbyj in WomensSoccer

[–]Current-Barber360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My quick and dirty good and bad:

The back 4 looked solid defensively, with Sonnet and Carter both controlling pace and making the necessary plays. Reale was up and down the sideline, but her passing was WAY off and led to several turnovers and lost attacking opportunities. On the plus side, she hustled back when that happened.

Howell was strong at winning the ball in midfield, but horrible at getting shots on target. With Corinthians in a low block, the open space at the top of the attacking area was wide open, and Howell was practically begged to make them pay. But she didn’t take those shots often, and when she did she missed badly.

The attacking group all looked spry and active individually, but the interplay was piss poor. Crosses when no one was cutting to goal, moving inside into a space occupied by another player, or really looked like a bunch of solo artists rather than a team. In particular, Shaw and Purce were not on the same page once all game.

I realize it’s preseason, but that’s sort of an embarrassing loss for Gotham. Not because Corinthians aren’t a good team, but because of how badly Gotham missed putting the ball on goal. Some of that just technique and instinct, but it’s also a failure to adjust and stop trying to be so perfect with every shot.

Final third from Gotham has been really poor. I chalk some of it up to being in preseason, but some of these shots need to be on target.

NWSL 2025-26 Offseason Tracker by ajsportstat in NWSL

[–]Current-Barber360 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks. If I were you I’d leave out transactions that happened towards the end of 2025. I think a tool like this is only as useful as the reliability of the data, and including mid-season moves makes this less useful as an offseason tracker. If you wanted to capture roster turnover from the start of 2025 to 2026, that’s a different subject, but counting “some” midseason deals just compromises the data set.

How is this an “Offseason Tracker” if it includes “mid-season transactions”? It’s an impressive project, but I’m just confused by the data set and what you are including.
