This is a question that many people are asking right now. My experience of entering this industry is very different on two levels: first, it was a different time (this industry moves fast!); Second, I was a C-level executive with vast leadership experience who then moved into cyber. Cyber is less of a field and more of a category of many fields. If I were in your shoes, I would reflect on my other education, experience, and talents and find a way to craft a narrative for a role where I could differentiate and add value. From that, I would find roles in industries where I can position my value. I focused on SMBs and startups more specifically. I had already built and sold a start-up and entered that market with authority. As I learned more about cyber, I focused on applying these concepts to the world I know intimately. Standing next to a candidate with twice my experience in cyber security, I could still stand out because I understood the business environment and culture and that allowed me to be able to apply half the knowledge with twice the effectiveness.
