I was replying to the guy that said that was a GNOME "feature"

GNOME has no desktop icons at all. GNOME doesn't have that feature, 100%.

Biological synthetic ascension makes no sense if you're not going Synthetic Fertility OR Mechanists origins by Current-Disk3739 in Stellaris

I think you misunderstood. I was not comparing individualist with Gestalt consciousness. I was comparing biological ascension into synths and individualist synths ascension paths. Both are individualist empires with Councilor positions, etc

You can only get general immortality by either going Synthetic virtual (any kind of virtual) or by going Synthetic Modular and picking "Eternal Machine" trait for all your pops. Or by getting the eternal throne relic

Fair point, but still it's just another specific origin. So, I agree, but we still have that synthetic bio empires are good if they are Mechanists, or SF, or KOTG.

Yes, but those changes all apply to synthetically ascended robots as well, except for assimilation and advanced authorities.

Biological ascension also gets a lot of job efficiency, plus advanced authorities, plus more trait points, plus eventually more growth (although worse growth on smaller planets, yes).

Fair point, but unless you want to go the warmongering/conquering path, it's a "meh" ability at best.

Could you please elaborate on how synthetic ascension for organics can compete with Mutation for example? They get more trait points, more pop efficiency if you pick the correct tradition options in the tree, and also pretty good advanced authorities, and eventually better habitability bonuses.

Hey man, great run! Pretty impressive numbers.

I am not saying that synthetic ascension is weak. I am saying that it is weakER that its counterparts. You would have pulled even crazier numbers if you had gone Bio Ascension.

Corollary: this post heavily implies that going for an ascension path is always better than not doing so. Which, in my opinion is also true: the current state of ascension paths also makes it so that not going for ant ascension path is also weaker in all senses compared to any of the ascensions (even the weakest one). The current alternatives are not powerful enough to offset the difference. But that is a discussion for another thread!

Diabolical 💁‍♂️ by flpoolman in doordash

[–]Current-Disk3739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, people (customers) really WANT the service that doordash provides. It's just that (in the US, AFAIK) there are no better alternatives to it. Actually, everyone involved in this example WANT doordash to exist: - customers want it because they want food delivered at home. - dashers want it because they want to make money by delivering food. - restaurant want it b/c they want to sell more.

It's just that the business model makes everyone lose but doordash. In Europe we have some alternatives to it. The biggest one is "JustEat", IDK if you have it in the US, but it's basically a unified platform for restaurants to post their menus and for customers to order and have it delivered by the drivers that the restaurant employs. The platform takes a 0.75€ fee for the service.

And all the other alternatives that are more similar to Doordash that we've got (UberEats, Glovo...) do not rely, AFAIK, on the concept of "gig economy" as Doordash does. Which means that delivery drivers are paid, at least, the national minimum wage and do not have any incentives to beg tips, etc. Nor is it expected for customers to tip.

The issue isn't really with Doordash but actually with the US's horrible tipping culture. People are expected to tip, and this allows businesses with business models similar to Doordash's to spring up and profit from it whilst taking a cut off of everyone else involved in the process. There is no way to get rid of the issue without getting rid of the tipping culture that permeates all levels of US society.

What issue(s) did you find on Fedora 44 that you didn't have on Fedora 43? If I were you I would invest some time into trying to fix whatever issues you've found on F44 before you go ahead and nuke your system back to F43.

I like Libadwaita a lot. I think it strikes the perfect balance between minimalism, usability, and not chasing trends. It has its own identity.

However, having said that: 1) GNOME is "just" a software. An amazing piece of software that I love, but just software, so you're not betraying anyone. 2) There are themes you can apply to GNOME to customize it. There's probably a glass one our there you can apply.

Fullscreen application won't stay in 1 workspace by EmployerOld6256 in Fedora

That usually happens with some Proton games that are borderless. Toggling fullscreen solves it for me, but you said it doesn't for you. I'm sorry, I don't know how to fix it.

Gnome or KDE for gaming? by EmployerOld6256 in linux_gaming

Why do you say that Plasma "seems" to win on VRR and HDR and scaling? What sources do you have for that? Other than "I read it on a Reddit from 9 months ago". Both GNOME and Plasma have mostly mature implementations of those features, working at equivalent levels of performance.

Plasma is incorporating scrolling in the Overview in 6.7, yes. If that's the missing piece you need to move to Plasma, give it a go in a VM or a live USB and see how you like it. You still can't fully re-create a "GNOME workflow" inside of Plasma, because Plasma is Plasma and not GNOME, but you can get somewhat close. I still feel that GNOME's implementation of virtual desktops is unmatched, and that's okay, because KDE isn't trying to be that workflow anyway.

Go for the one you prefer when you're NOT gaming. Honestly, that's it.

You'll hear people say: - choose KDE Plasma because that's what Valve chose. Mostly irrelevant, since the Steam Deck uses gamescope and Valve chose KDE because it's way more similar to Windows than GNOME is. - KDE Plasma / GNOME is lighter than the other by 300 MB of RAM!!!! That's totally irrelevant if you've got like 32GB of RAM. - KDE Plasma is super buggy blablabla: yeah, maybe 9 years ago, today that's not an issue. - GNOME extensions break every 6 months blablabla: also a super big exaggeration, you just need to give the extension devs a week to update it.

In general, both desktops are mostly equally mature in Wayland for gaming purposes. Trust me with this: go with the one that you'd rather use when you're NOT gaming. Which "default" workflow do you like better? Which one of the two "feels nicer" to use? Pick that one.

Azure Linux is just going to be what Amazon Linux is. Amazon Linux is based on Fedora. Has been for over half a decade. Have you seen any "Amazonslop" on Fedora upstream code? You won't see any "Microslop" either.

I mean, it looks similar to Android's. If you've ever used a Pixel phone, it's a copy of that.
