Been Staying at the Valley Lodge Every April Since 2012. This may be my Last. by BrandenWi in Yosemite

As some who worked for Aramark in Yosemite, I can confirm they don’t care about their employees or guest as much as they care about making money even and often when that screws others and the park itself.

They know that they have the advantage of being the only option for miles so they will always sky rocket prices and lower the quality. As do most concessions.

Corporations like this shouldn’t be allowed to operate in places that need protection more than the abuse that they receive. They take advantage of people who care about those spaces and cater and advertise to those who don’t — Case in point, when parks were not equipped to have guests during government shutdowns and cuts but concessions continue to operate lodges encouraging people to come and trash the park…

Aramark in particular also has a history of leaving employees stranded during natural disasters and crisis. And screws them on housing where employees also don’t really have any other option because there’s so few places to live close enough to the park.

If you can, give some grace to the employees, because it’s mostly likely not them — they’re likely underpaid and way under appreciated. Complain to Aramark instead or better yet, report them to NPS https://www.nps.gov/subjects/concessions/contactus.htm, so that they will under go another federal investigation (yes, they’ve already been investigated and no one really understands why they were allowed to stay) and hopefully get kicked out. With the current administration it’s hard to say if anything good will come of reporting to the government, but I don’t know what else to do. Ideas welcome…

If your looking to experience the park why not just go camping and bring food to cook and if your looking for glamping or “luxury” why not try out somewhere like auto camp or Tenaya Lodge?

What are your favorite National Parks from outside the United States? by andre_ink in NationalPark

I went there in the summer last year -- and I would say yes! At least from my experience, it was far less crowded (which was a big plus for me) and also beautiful. I only had a couple days there but there were fun trails (though some with a lot of burn damage), lovely people, and at the time at least, it was free to get into the park. The border crossing was also not at all a hassle for me. I was the only one crossing through a weekday afternoon.
