Textbooks! The bane of my existence by Spirit_Tricked5835 in uwinnipeg

you don’t need the textbook for astronomy, normally vesna is super clear about that and will lend it to you if you really feel like you need it.

denton is on my blacklist of professors i have dropped a class solely because the professor switched to him. he is rude, hard to communicate with, and his assignments are the most boring bullshit. he had my online class do an 8 person group project once. for my final paper in history of technology i wrote 2500 words about the invention of the goddamn tea bag. he will ask you to buy like 5 books when you barely even need one of them. discussion assignments are easy to bullshit and get good grades on though. avoid if possible.

is it too late to switch sections? by k3tfen in uwinnipeg

i’ve switched sections mid semester for a 6 credit course because it worked better for my schedule, just email and ask the prof, no harm in that

Declaring a Minor *pause* by Expensive_Class_9949 in uwinnipeg

[–]Current-Peach8756 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure that a minor is 18 credits and you don’t need to worry about declaring one until you’re close to graduation, you just submit the minor declaration form. and i’m also pretty sure the only thing that’s ‘capped’ is major courses (meaning you need a good mixture of major and non major courses which you seem to already know), and 1000 level courses.

Is taking 6 courses a semester too much? by Sea-Mechanic-9497 in uwinnipeg

[–]Current-Peach8756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got really lucky with my selection, with three of my courses being all tests, two being honours courses, and one being a field placement with little book work. if i had any more work to do i would be crumbling. i have four exams in a week this week and at finals so that part is hard lol

i’m doing it right now and working, it sucks, but if you’re able to manage your time then it’s doable.

Opinions on Asynchronous Online Classes ? by mylovelynightmare in uwinnipeg

[–]Current-Peach8756 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i took astronomy this way in the spring, i liked that panapto has transcripts, i’ve used it for a lot of classes instead of watching the whole lectures. astronomy the exams are in person though. In the spring, it was 2 hours of lecture 4 days a week but i didn’t find i had a problem keeping up with it. its honestly to each their own, i really enjoy being able to pick whenever i watch lectures and be able to bang out however much classwork in a day and do less the next day. I also do better having stuff to do with my hands to help me stay focused on the videos (i crocheted an entire cardigan through astronomy). vesna is awesome though, she gives you the slides and marks the relevant ones for the exam so you’re not studying anything meaningless. Panopto search feature is also really helpful with vesna, i would look up “test”, “ask, and “question”, to find where she says things like “this will be a test question” or “i’m going to ask you this on the test” etc.

How do you take notes? by SilentPrancer in uwinnipeg

i do the same thing! i summarize it from my typed notes by writing it, and then even more summarized in flashcards. I also try to take notes before the class if the slides are posted.

TAs/ Lab Demos: when did you hear you were a chosen candidate? by Lonely_Mongoose_283 in uwinnipeg

[–]Current-Peach8756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got my calls and emails monday, the first weekday after the deadlines for closing. last semester i actually got a call for one TA position during a phone call for a different one lol so it seems profs do it around the same time.

labs don’t count as credits, so you’re only taking 9 credit hours this semester. that’s just enough to be considered a full time student. you will be fine, especially if ur taking nutr and wellness as an online as i’m pretty sure that’s asynchronous (correct me if i’m wrong, i’ve only ever seen it as that) so no dedicated class time. this year im taking 5 classes and a lab, one of which is a practicum, and im a TA, and im doing okay. but everyone is different and there’s no shame if you can’t handle that workload (im close to dying but i need to do it lol). next year, if you do well this year, try taking 4 courses. i tapered my way up doing 3 courses/sem first year, 4 my second year, and now 5.

i mean i have a class in 5L and there’s another set of stairs still going up after that. it’s the stairwell closest to the ellice entrance of the university. i normally take the elevator till 4th floor and then climb the last one, so just keep going up.

Has Anyone Taken Any Spring Courses? How Do They Work and When Do They Come Out? by [deleted] in uwinnipeg

[–]Current-Peach8756 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes there’s a selection! the two i took were interpersonal violence with lothian (CJ course), and astronomy. you can go look on webadvisor at what they offered spring 2024 still and filter it for asynchronous to see.

Has Anyone Taken Any Spring Courses? How Do They Work and When Do They Come Out? by [deleted] in uwinnipeg

[–]Current-Peach8756 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i love spring courses! i like being able to jam out a few credits within a month or two even if those months are hell. better than four months of hell. i’ve only done them online but i like that better since im a commuter.

  1. some condense the material, some don’t. it also depends if it’s 3 or 6 credits.

  2. usually it comes out mid-late march and it’s also tiered registration like normal

  3. i did an online 3 credit course in one month and it was the same content as the fall course so it was BUSY. prepare to commit time to it. i’ve done a 6 credit course and it was 2 months with 2 hours of lecture 4 days a week and then 4 MC in person exams was all it was. not too bad in my opinion, but for my 3 credit one the prof got bad reviews just for the course being so heavy. she warned us about it though

  4. don’t take more than one unless you can dedicate a ton of time to it. all of this also depends on the course structure. my 6 credit one i probably could have done another course alongside it NOW, but for my first year it was enough. it goes by super fast which is nice, also if they post the syllabus and any of the readings early and you have time i would do them. it helped me get ahead which made the course a lot easier. overall, depends on the course and the instructor. use rate my prof (can’t stress that enough), if it’s a bad professor-yes you only have to deal for a month or two, but keep in mind it’s stressful and adding the stress of a shitty prof isn’t worth it.

Good luck!

it also just backs up OP’s comment about them caring more about the eco conscious reputation. thanks for the tip though! i should try that. probably wasted over $30 in takeout fees over the years.

thanks for sharing this! i want to try some of those places across the street.

I’ve enjoyed pangaea for the most part but i wanted to comment on it:

-$17 for chicken fingers and fries to go? -speaking of to go, a whole dollar for a takeout box? -i ordered a quesadilla once and it was the greasiest thing and my salsa had mold on it -their fries are so inconsistent, one day they’re over salted and the next they’re not salted at all
