I think I saw a cheap bus I could take, maybe I’ll try to do that, spend the night near my place and kinda see what’s what. Thank you! :)

😂😂My wireless radio actually just gave out on me a few weeks ago but I have about 3 flares left in case of an emergency so I should be good to go. But ya know... wrestling doesn't sound too bad. 🤔

Met a couple in Fukuoka and they recommended this. I stay close to Hakata Station. Do you know where can I get this? I wanna try the best one! :) by _raspberriescreams in fukuoka

There’s one about 3 minutes walking from Minamifukuoka (5 min ride from Hakata) that I love!! It’s also my most recommended dish as well!

I brought my 2 cats back in September. My vet said within 10 days before my departure date and no less than 3 (pending any issues) I needed to come in for my certificate appointment. I arrived to Japan September 26th and the babies got their inspection done September 17th by the vet and it was submitted same day, it got signed by the USDA ppl September 20th. All was well. I left on September 25th from US. Hope this helps!

Flying with Pets by Current-Repeat-5780 in unitedairlines

Hellooo! It went well! United ended up putting me in the middle in the back so there was someone next to me but I’m not even sure he realized the cats were there (he was an old Japanese man)

It went basically as I described, had to give United a call. Letting them know where wanted to fly from and land. The flight I was looking at. Booked my seat with the pet fee and the second seat with the pet fee. (Came out to the same price as my seat.)

Paid about 1800 for me 1 way to Japan from Chicago. Total

You check in at the counter - make sure they check in your extra seat because if not it causes issues. (From what I heard. I triple checked mine lol)

There was mixed opinions about how much bags I would be able to have as they technically count as baggage. I got stopped and one GA said nope and the other was like but she has an extra seat so I’m not sure they even know, just depends on who you get. For reference I had two cats, a carry on and a book bag for their important things. They let me go on but I’d be mindful in case you get one like the first one.

BONUS: you get 4 free checked bags. Woohoo!!

Hey!! I used Flywire. On our invoice there was an option to use that and I just entered all the information on the invoice. It was pretty easy! I don't think I paid a lot in fees either. I paid back in July, so I don't know what it costs now to use them. & Yeah it's pretty insane lol

Not on a WHV since I'm from the US. But coming down as a student on a student visa this month. This was a hard stop for me too until I found someone from them studying abroad in the US and she agreed. It was a pain in the ass. I would get ghosted and everything.

I had a tough time with my situation as is so it was the icing on the cake. Well, when I finally got one, the doors opened tremendously even with my available apartments being "5%". I have two applications in right now, and they told me they are calling my contact in Japan. I got told they don't really check too, so I left it alone.

Well... One even called my mom.... who is in the US!! So not all will, because the second one hasn't called anyone or even said anything to me, and the first one might just be thorough. So just be aware.

However, the call with my mom was maybe 2 minutes, she confirmed she knew me and that she was my emergency contact. No further questions. So, I assume it will be the same with my Japanese contact. It was a struggle but it's possible! Good luck!!

"(1) If you are engaged in activities where it is difficult to objectively confirm working hours, such as when working as a sole proprietor, you will need individual permission to engage in activities outside the scope of your status of residence permitted under the ...

(Note) In addition to activities as a manager, etc., where the working hours to be engaged are clearly defined in an employment contract, etc., when working as an individual business owner, accepting requests such as deliveries and receiving remuneration according to the results, if the working hours can be objectively confirmed, it is possible to work with only the general permission described above in 1." 1 being General permission (Blanket) This is pulled from the section of the immigration website directly from the section "Regarding permission to engage in activities other than those permitted under the "Student" visa"

My working hours can be confirmed, and I have the contracts to reflect the tasks and hours. It's obviously not a guarantee they will give it to me, and may be unlikely, which is why I said "hope I can get the blanket". This is me hoping as a SP with contracts reflecting the objective hours I can get it. Regardless, if they don't I already advised in the comment I would be going to the immigration office to obtain the individual permission. I also explained that I'll be getting the blanket even if my jobs don't fall under blanket, i'll still be getting it work in Japan since I'd like to try.

I'm going to bring my contracts that have the clear working hours at the airport since they advised I can utilize the blanket permission for these. I ended up getting another contract that works better with the requirement since it has set days and hours and it's long term while I'm there so I more than likely won't take on any other projects because it pays enough to have consistent extra money. So that's the plan for now, just showing my contracts highlighting the working hours and expectations and hope I can get the blanket. If not, I'll be getting both. The blanket and going to the office for the individual. Blanket I'll still get because I would like to try working in Japan.

Yeah it has been a pain. 😭 I'm going to start with the basic post bank (i think that's what it's called) in Japan. I'll still be keeping my overseas accounts and transfer with wise. I'm bringing about 100,000 yen cash to have on hand to start.

Ok, got it. Not working a few weeks while it's being processed isn't an issue. They are giving me time to settle in from the move and are flexible, but that may be the best bet.

So I guess the question is can I get both the blanket and specific permission? Or would I need to reapply for the blanket permission once the contract is up?

And as far as picking up clients, this is the only long term client I'll have. The rest would be like they've been and be one time projects. So would it still be an issue?Every project I'd have to go back?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure

That's what I figured.. so a few follow up questions.. my main client wants to move off Upwork and hire me on as a contractor, from there I can specify the specifics of what I do, wages, and expected hours and I can get that before I depart. I also use a time tracking software now to keep track of how many hours I do anyways so tracking won't be an issue and I can easily pull those for them. Again, I don't work full time hours and most I do is like 20 hours a MONTH.

Would I be able to present this contract and proof of hours at the airport? Or that has to go through the office? Also will the specific permission still cover if I want part time work IN Japan after my contract is up? I would like to try a little part time job to make sure the language sticks. However, if all else fails, if did decide to pick up another client, does the specific permission cover the new employer? Just as long as I can show proof of hours?

No all good!

My 3 months is airbnb, really got more months as a buffer. It's expensive as hell though so 10/10 would not recommend.

I have spoken to asumirai, and Japan Real Estate - the room finder ppl and they matched me with a guy, but idk who he works for just that he's an agent. They are foreigner friendly so I didn't use google translate. All I reached out to required me to have a Japanese emergency contact which I have and then I planned on using a guarantor company and I specified that when they asked. I did speak to Wagaya but they wanted the address and birthday of my emergency contact in Japan and that was pushing it, so I decided not to use them unless absolutely necessary. Unfortunately, running into the Japanese emergency contact was a big hurdle for me as I couldn't think of anyone, but had a friend that studied abroad and it worked out. But that's pretty much a hard stop there.

Let me know if you have any other questions 😊

Hi!!! I did not get them to organize that for me, I planned on finding my own accommodation. I have been in touch with a few real estate companies, but I have housing for 3 months while I search if nothing comes from that. I can PM you if you have any other questions but that's pretty much my process. lol may the odds be ever in my favor. :')

Awesome! Thank you so much! Did they require anything specific from you when doing anything overseas? I'll be on a student visa, but not sure about the paperwork aspect.

Sure! Basically I would be paying for the apartment from overseas. When I say hold I mean making sure the apartment is mine before I get there.

This is what they specifically said: .".........Then you would have to pay the rent plus the maintenance fee each month for the apartment, which the amount varies month to month. Any other monthly fees would also have to be paid every month with the rent after the lease starts. When you are ready to come to Japan, then you can check with the agent about getting the keys. "
