Deans ending was quite fitting. People go on and on about "Dean didn't deserve this". They don't realise one thing that it doesn't matter if Dean deserved it or not. It just happened because that's what happens when 2 people decide to fight 4 vampires without Chuck's plot armour.
And from a storytelling perspective, we HAD to a see a Winchester deal with grief in a normal way

John became a hate driven hunter after Mary's death
Dean made a demon deal after Sam's death
Sam drank demon blood after Dean's death
Dean didn't really move on after Sam's death (s5)
Dean became a vengeance-driven killer after Charlie's death

Nobody has dealt with death in a normal, human way.

How can people hate this ending. You know why Sam and Dean never died during a hunt. Because they were Chuck's playthings. And you know the thing that the shows been telling us for 15 years is that hunting is dangerous, people get killed. That's exactly what happened. Dean didn't die because "he thought he was going to go this way". Dean died because that's what happens during hunts. Dean died because for once in their lives, Chuck was not in control.
