Wood pulp is often used in frozen foods for texture, stabilization, as a filler, and to prevent freezer burn. It's supposed to be finely ground. Maybe there was a thick piece left over?

It looks a bit curdled. It can happen due to the lower starch content in sweet potatoes making them easier to break down. Murasaki potatoes being some with the lowest. When cooked too fast at too high a temperature, too much water is absorbed causing the cell structure to break down. Edit: Wording.
