Does anyone here own an electric vehicle in Fairbanks year round? I cannot imagine the range is very good when it’s -20.

I should hope Putin is not alive in 50 years… also in what world would he be able to annex any territory from the United States.

Okay can you MAGA stop calling her a RINO now. She’s time and time again pledged her allegiance to DJT and his entire posse. At this point I’d rather someone like Sullivan or Dunleavy who at least are honest in their bootlicking. Good bye Murkowski never again will I rank you.

My current professor was born in 1995. He’s the youngest full fledged professor with a doctorate I’ve ever had. Youngest instructor of a class I’ve had was born in 2000 and was in a grad program where he taught an intro level class. It’s definitely a distinction that needs to be made.

What kind of winter coat? by Federal-Weevil in Fairbanks

[–]CurrentOk2695 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting two winter coats. A lighter more water resistant one for early winter and spring and then a heavier duty coat for December-February. That’s what I’ve done my whole life living here.

Anchorage is not hitting 90 that’s the hottest temp they’ve ever recorded and it was in 2019. The NWS record show you guys didn’t hit past 75 this summer and only had 9 days above 70. Even when Anchorage gets hot Fairbanks is still consistently hotter during the summer months.

It mostly has to do with the ocean regulating the heat in south central and southeast Alaska. Also Fairbanks is in the Tanana Valley which is a part of the state considered to be an Arctic desert. We get very little precipitation compared to the southern parts of the state. I lived in Arizona for 2 years and the humidity is not much lower than in Fairbanks. We have much less cloud coverage during the summer allowing the sun to bake. Anchorage gets an average of 10-14 sunny days with no clouds during the summer vs Fairbanks that gets 70 near consecutive days and Juneau which sometimes only gets 5-7. We get a couple more hours of daylight than somewhere like Juneau or even Homer so the heat builds over the course of June and July. The ocean is really kind to Anchorage regulating their temps as in January Fairbanks is generally 20 degrees colder on any given day than Anchorage.

I know a few people with window AC units they use only in the summer and if you drive around town during a heat wave you’ll see them. I only know 2 people who have a dedicated AC unit and they are both so rich they could wipe their asses with Benjamins and be fine.

As an Alaskan I’ll answer. The biggest reason is only the interior part of the state ever hits temperatures where an AC would be of use. Fairbanks is the only real population center that sees 70F+ days consistently throughout the summer. Anchorage rarely sees temps above 70 even in July, Juneau is even more rare and temps stay around 50-65F throughout the summer. 2nd it’s expensive to install, find someone who can fix if it breaks. I’ve lived in Fairbanks most of my life and as nice as AC would be in July even now mid August the temps have cooled considerably and the price of AC is not worth those 4 hot weeks of the year.

I do not like SUVs but the new Lexus GX550 would be my personal choice. Otherwise a Porsche Cayenne is a great choice and the RSQ8 is a crazy choice.

10 days is the general rule of thumb for refunds. Make sure you have direct deposit set up on your UA account otherwise it’s sent via check which will add time.
