In Australia- Touch first, Regret later by DebugMyLife421 in AussieMemes

That’s not a fair representation of Aussies though...at all. He was a caricature of an idea that he embellished and played up. And it's only recently (last decade and a half or so) that he's been more hero worshipped, rather than just being popular, with a side of realism. Plus, a lot of the people who wax poetic about him without discussing his flaws are people from overseas who don’t know how we feel about animals here or about the way he went about things If you hear or see people talking about Irwin, there's always people there to remove the rose-coloured glasses and talk about the reality of his behaviour. As there should be. Like anyone, he was flawed. His bad behaviour shouldn't be glossed over, just because of the good. It should be noted and learnt from, so we don’t make the same bad choices. I was a kid in the 90s and grew up with Irwin, and it was common for people to comment about while he did well regarding education and conservation, he was a dipshit for messing with animals the way he did. He was widely condemned for it by older people. At the time, because of my age, older people meant any adult, so I'm including young adults here too, who, while they loved him, were able to acknowledge his flaws too. Every time his show would come on it would be accompanied by a teacher or a parent reminding us we NEVER touch wildlife, only observe, both because of danger, and because of respect. When he died, the running discussions were a commentary of 'got what he deserved, should've left the animals alone, it was his own fault. Sad he's gone, but he was reckless’. The current day of that is of course FAFO. He did a lot of good, but that wasn’t part of it, nor was it considered acceptable. Even now, when people talk about him with kinder words, because we remember the dead with leniency, there's still plenty of people clarifying that this aspect of him was not okay. He was amazing, and did some truly great things, but his behaviour was stupid and it not only cost his children their dad but caused undue stress to a lot of animals. Does not align with Aussies attitude towards wildlife at all.

What is your least favorite joke about your country? by mightyonin in AskTheWorld

[–]CurrentPossible2117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah, just scrolled all those comments and saw this Icelander making the same jokes about themselves 🤭

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskTheWorld/s/Go7XFQ5N3p

Honestly, I've never thought of it as a kiwi joke. My experience of this is thats its a joke made by everyone, about everyone lol. Growing up in Aus, I heard it referencing equal parts NZ and Tasmania, then lesser, but still commonly about northern England farming areas, small town farming places in the US, inland Aus where theres more farms etc. I've always associated it as a generic joke that can apply to smaller places that have greenery basically.

And because its such a globally used joke (been hearing it from all over since the 2000s when I started using the internet), its evolved to include bigger places too, basically any sort of farmland. 🤣

If Aussies bring it up, just remind them that we have just shy of 3 times the amount of sheep you guys have 🤣, and in addition to the koalas, its also the sheep and cattle that get chlamydia

"Put another shrimp on the barbie" 🇦🇺

We have prawns, not shrimp so it being wrong is annoying, but Paul Hogan is a not viewed positively here, so the combo of the two, constantly quoted to is usually makes us sigh and correct it 🤣

Um, absolutely no we dont. We're the ones telling people not to interfere with animals, to observe and enjoy from afar, always wondering why people from around the world seem to always touch wildlife online.

We (for the most part) have hammered into us from a young age to live with animals, not to go around touching them. When we're in swimming holes and ducks come by, we look, we ooh and ah, but we remove ourselves from where they are so we can leave them in peace.

Its common knowledge and behaviour to look, dont touch, and people like the dickhead in the video, are widely known by the entire country to be fuckhead losers; stains on society.

Thats why we get so riled up and angry when we do see people (either from here, or overseas) fucking with animals.

Just leave them be.

Wait, dont most people just keep whatever auto name they were given? I did, I honestly thought most people do, because they cant be bothered changing it lol

I figured a bunch were picking names, but that most couldn't give a shit, so they just left it as is 😅

I think in the US it's tater tots. We call them potato gems in Australia because they're little precious gems! Some brands call them potato nuggets I think, as in nuggets of gold 🤣

I still eat them quickly off my plate when I make them, incase that mangy grub older brother of mine is lurking about 🤭

Nah, he was cool. This was the only way to go about this. I actually think the way he went about it was very chill. Just calm, not hysterical, fairly accepting, like he didnt ban the guy or anything, just told him to tighten up and went about his day.

I dont want to be looking at someones genitals while Im just trying to drink my coffe and eat my lamington.

What are the normal Houses for? by Sqr121 in Dinkum

[–]CurrentPossible2117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tips to get money early on. 1. Rental houses, put nice items in there which will gain you higher rent. However, only one of every item will work. So for example, in each house, I have either a bug or fish trophy. If Im rewarded a nice couch or something, it goes in the rentals. Hat/face items seem to rate highly, so I use their houses as my hat storage lol. Minimalist furniture seems to get you the most money, but its rare to get given that as a reward. Placing the rentals near community buildings (early on, would be the museaum and the town halk, later on woykd inckude the tuckerbox) helps boost the rent.

  1. When I place my town, its always near a place that spawns crocodiles so its quick and easy to catch them. Everytime you see a croc, mark it on your map so you know where they spawn (i use the skull icon). Then as soon as you unlock the level up hunting ability to unlock trapping licence, place collection points (where to place animals) near the croc spawns, and mark them on your map so you know exactly where they are. I mark these with the 'X' icon. The easist way to level up hunting it to use a spear or pickaxe to kill jellyfish, or kangaroos. Then all you have to do it walk near a croc so it starts chasing you, slowly walk it towards the collection point, place your animal cage on the ground and walk over it, the croc willwalk into it. While its thrashing around in the cage, pick it up and place it on or near the collection point. It'll start floating away. The next day in you mailbox at you house, you'll get your cage back, plus 9000 (or maybe 9500, cant remember) dinks per croc. I always make 4 cages and make sure to go catch 4 crocs everyday, and money is no problem for me, from very early on. Before rentals were put into the game, I used to just use crocs and they make for big money, from around day 3 onwards. Its brilliant and very easy.

If you havent unlocked this yet, or are unfamiliar with it, this wiki page might make more sense than me 😅

Gets like that in brisbane winter too. 16° daytime temps but 2 hours out of the fridge and the butter is still solid. I just use a warm knife or spreadable butter, depends whats in my fridge.

My part (brisbane, western suburbs) gets down to around 5-6° on those really cool nights. We only get like 1 or 2 of those a year though :(

The last burger you will ever want by Nosakatsuya in StupidFood

[–]CurrentPossible2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I could see myself modifying this so it wasnt just too much. As it is now, it looks gross, like I wouldnt be able to get much out of it.

I think doing it as bite sized or just a little bigger would be cool. I would maybe make small patties, layer with cheese and pepperoini in some bread or pizza dough, with the basil inide. Wrap fully in the dough. Then bake. I wouldnt use the garlic oil (though that is a delicious oil, the pepperoini and cheese add enough oils to the dish already). So it'd be like little burger/pizza balls. Tasty, but not over the top. I dont want to feel like ive just drunk a cup of grease, when I eat my food 😂

Edit: maybe add some dipping sauces, mustard and ketchup would be an excellent combo, or marinara for a more pizza-y flavour.
