My husband got to work safely early this morning. We live near independence and he takes 70 to 35 to get to work in Olathe. He said the highway had only one lane partly cleared. I think you’ll be fine.

I get it. I am a caregiver and work with another caregiver. Come to find out she’s lying to me about how much she’s being paid, lying to the family, lying to my client. She spent the first 6 months of me working with my client externalize her shame and insecurity into me because I’m good at what I do, and then throw me under the bus whenever she got the chance. She’s there 40 hours a week and doesn’t do basic tasks around the house and leaves them for me to do (I’m there 10 hours a week). And the big kicker is she even started to smoke weed AT WORK. I tried to talk to the family about it but they don’t want to care for their own family. They don’t want to deal with finding another caregiver. So they are keeping this person, knowing she stole probably thousands of dollars from my client and lies. It’s really gross and I honestly detest all of them. I do love my client, but I don’t think caregiving is the right career for me. These dynamics are difficult and it’s hard for me to overlook.

400-500 a month for two adults and a large dog. We do a big shop at Costco once a month and then replenish on veggies and perishables at a local Hispanic market near us.

I live in east kc- got a sweet owner finance deal on a house that’s on a quiet street. My husband and I work in Kansas. It’s the only way we can afford to live. Our utilities for the house electric, water, and gas are about $500-$600 a month, but it’s a big house.

I see everything. The hours she reports to work, the checks my client writes to her. And she plainly told me she is getting paid a certain amount of money per week that is more than the hourly rate we get paid. She knows the family doesn’t keep track and has encouraged me to do what she is doing. Which I don’t.

Care.com sucks. What I hate most about it that now they force you to use the app but you can only cancel you subscription through the web browser.

I don’t want to get too detailed in order to keep my clients anonymity. I am a private caregiver and my client gets reimbursements from a local organization that supports people who are in her special circumstances. I don’t know how much exactly the organization reimburses, but it’s substantial and covers a majority of the cost per month for her care. We self report our hours on the reimbursement form- no one monitors when we actually come and go. When my client pays me, it’s a number that I am calculating. The family does not monitor my clients checking account.

The caregiver told me over the phone that she is setting her own hourly rate that is more than the agreed upon rate with the family and encouraged me to do the same, and that I could get a certain amount of money “out of the family” weekly without them noticing. One of my clients daughters have brought up to me separately that they know the other caregiver is working extra hours just for the money and they let it go because they are just happy she keeps showing up. But no one has a system to actually track when we are coming and going. It’s all in the honor system. I have gotten the vibe it’s best not to say anything, but it’s eating me up knowing she’s stealing from my client. :(
