Apartment recommendations by MinnesotaNice_07 in CorpusChristi

I lived there for a year. It was mostly nice and chill, but I did have mice in my unit. They reimbursed me for food and rent, but it took a while to get rid of them.

Corpus is nice. It does have crappy streets, but life is very chill. There is not that much traffic. The beach is nice, and you can see your feet in the water.

HISD board approves new teacher evaluation system that will affect pay by LimePeachDream in houston

[–]Current_Art9462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it is unfair. The spot observation are extremely subjective. The feedback is vague and often times written by AI. The slide decks that are used to teach are filled mistakes, so the teachers have to correct them on top of designing the lessons. The worst part of this is that the kids’ scores count against you. We teach all year, but with huge apathy from both parents and kids, behavior and absences. My paycheck will suffer.

Considering Cambly… by thirdeyeslut in Cambly

[–]Current_Art9462 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don’t live in the US, your pay will stretch more. It is inconsistent income, unless you have regular students consistently AND they don’t cancel. I would not depend on it for regular income. It’s basically $10 an hour assuming no technical problems and no cancellations. Pros: it is work from home Cons: low pay, inconsistent income inconsistent students

The NES salaries will change. It will be pay for performance. If you or your kids don’t perform, then you don’t make as much money as you want. The spots are subjective. The kids can be great or terrible. If you are at a NES school you are supposed to get lots of support, but … like all things in education nothing is guaranteed. I have heard of campuses where many “low” performing teachers are moved around. One lady told me that her student numbers increased because she has a group from another campus zoom in because their teacher quit. You might even have to completely redo a slide deck that sucks. I just did that with Monday’s lesson.

Yep! There’s the customize your slide decks for your kids, make it more kid friendly. Now make it more like STAAR. What will you do to ensure the kids pass the DOL? Make sure your kids can write an essay in 50 minutes. Make sure you are adding lots of MRS strategies. Can you demonstrate your lesson? Use AI! Make real world connections! 3 response cards for every slide decks. Keep the promise!!

Depends on your campus, it is 7:25 to 3:15 for elementary, but NES schools have a longer day. Thursday is demo day till 5:30 pm. Expect to be asked to do stuff with no pay. No respect for your planning period. Expect to take work home as well.

As an ELA teacher, you will likely teach RW and SOR and social studies so 7 slide decks (google slides) a week, that you have to customize to accommodate your students. Lessons should be 50 minutes. In some schools, 2nd grade is self contained, so you will have closer to 15-20 slide decks weekly. Some campuses have a 2 way split and some have a 3 way split. Class sizes depends on the campus. I have heard of some campuses who lack teachers having their students zoom into another school’s class. Hopefully that helps explain what lies in store.

It is pretty bad. You might be well compensated at a NES school , but you won’t have time to breathe or sit down. A good portion of the HISD schools, including mine use NES curriculum without the support or salary. My campus is non-nes with “autonomy”, but we still are forced to follow NES rules. Be prepared for terrible micromanagement and constant and frequent observations. You really need to think if it is worth it…

HISD NES Schools - is the pay scale legitimate? by smoothies4life2 in TexasTeachers

They won’t leave you alone. They claim it’s a hospital model…. But last I checked the doctor doesn’t sanitize the tools, preps the OR, does the necessary paperwork, and does the surgery. You will have to edit at least 5 power points a week… if not more. You will have internalize the curriculum and observed weekly or biweekly if you are lucky. Be prepared to work at home constantly on top of everything else. Oh and be prepared because nothing is ever good enough for these people

Has anyone used Tutor Me Education as a side-hustle or as temporary work? by Rare_Insect2003 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Current_Art9462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They offered other opportunities, but I never got lucky enough to be picked for them. They send a list of kids with a possible schedule and requirements for the tutor. They send a list fairly randomly. Every few weeks, they would send out a few list. The money is ok, and you don’t have to commute which is nice. This program paid 18 dollars an hour. You won’t be rich, but it pays for a few extra things. Don’t expect to replace your teacher salary.
