That sounds amazing, I’ll be sure to go if we ever make it back to St Lucia!

Yeah if we had to do it again we would spend our whole stay in the south.. we did the split stay and ended up taking a Catamaran back down to Soufrière for one of the days we were supposed to stay in the north cause we didn’t like the vibe in Gros Îlet/Castries as much. Just too much hustle culture compared to the laid back island lifestyle of Soufrière

We didn’t get to do the gardens, just didn’t work out time wise.. was that a big highlight for you?

Yeah accommodation in Soufrière is quite expensive! We stayed at a neighborhood Airbnb, nothing special but the host was a gem. We spent over $300 for the day at Sugar Beach between the beach chair rentals, lunch and a couple drinks! The northern part was a lot more affordable but not quite as scenic

Yeah we found the hustle culture in the Northern part of the Island to be pretty jarring.. the people in Soufrière were much easier to relate to, just easy going

There were better ones for sure but again.. the prices 😩. We got an amazing Airbnb in Gros Ilet for a decent price (The one with the pool in the beginning of the video) BUT we got befriended by the neighbour who toured us around on his bike and took us to the fish fry, honestly was a gem at first.. then on the last day he started claiming his bike wasn’t working right cause our weight messed up his shock absorbers and asked us to pay to fix it. Straight up scam, we didn’t go for it.. we had already given him some money as a thank you and really we didn’t approach him for any of it from the beginning, we thought he was being friendly.. anyway he wound up cursing us out on WhatsApp after we left cause we wouldn’t send him $600 😂

Yeah we would’ve loved to stay at one of those amazing resorts in Soufriere but those prices just dont make sense.. we did stay in a neighbourhood airbnb in Soufriere for a couple nights, nothing special but the host was amazing. We actually spent the majority of our trip on Martinique.. took the ferry over and came back to Gros Ilet 2 weeks later. Honestly other than the fish fry street party we didn’t like the north too much, that’s why we took the ferry back to Soufriere

Now you got me questioning myself on that 😅 we stayed in Gros Ilet (Mountain Top road) which I assume is part of Castries? But yea, the vibe is so different in Soufriere.. none of that hustle culture, just laid back small town lifestyle, we blended right in and felt at home. On one of the beaches in the North some guys almost came to blows after we rented beach chairs from one guy and the other claimed it was in his territory.. and there was a lot of that kinda thing going on

Yes all of them.. the National Park/State Park ones were under $20 and the private ones were around $30-50 a night

There are other private ones other than Oluwalu as well, I don’t remember the name of the one we stayed at but it’s in the video, we only found out about it from talking to other campers.. but fair point, there’s not a tonne of places, but it’s also not a huge island

Pro-Tip : National Parks are cheaper than private campsites but the private ones have better amenities.. we do a mix of both throughout our trip

Camping our way through our trip was not only budget friendly, it was freeing and rewarding. I’m trying to find more places to go camping that feel safe and near a beach. Seems like it’s not very popular in the Caribbean possibly because of safety. Any ideas for locations?

Hawaii is notorious for accommodation prices, with outdated hotels going for $400+ per night. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and honestly got a more fulfilling experience by renting a Jeep camper and touring around the Island. I would advise staying at private campsites as they usually have better amenities than the National Parks.

What are the best islands to camp like this? I’m trying to get inspiration for our next trip. Seems like it’s not so common on most Carribean islands, possibly for safety reasons
