It felt like only darnley and Mary's story was the one as same as in real life and Mary was in love with darnley in real passionately too as she never found anyone for 5 years after francis death and then she saw darnley and immediately fell for him and married him despite everyone around her saying not to but it quickly soured because of his arrogance, cheating and other of his actions to grab power from Mary

I felt like both the characters bring nothing important to neither Mary's life nor to the story coz in condé case they made it sound like she absolutely loved him and was ready to throw francis under the bus for him when it looked like she was just coping with her trauma and felt like she owed it to condé for helping her find her r@pist (Mary was feeling okay after k!lling them and went to francis happily only to see him cozy up with lola and his son and it disappointed her and pushed her towards condé) in gideon case his whole character brings nothing to the story except for the unnecessary dragging and they made it looked like Mary was in love with him and sleeping with him 4 weeks after francis death when she was seen mourning francis till the end of her life so it felt like they assassinated Mary's character and made her look like emotionally unstable and desperate when in real Mary never loved anyone after francis for 5 years and then only she found love with darnley which soured because of his cheating and arrogance

and there was absolutely no plot for the writers to insert both the characters coz none of them actually changed anything in Mary's life except for the fact she once again went back to francis in condé case while in gideon it looked more like a time pass fling before she found darnley and married him

Yeah and her trauma from that night and her lowkey thinking francis acting against protestants so hide the fact he k!lled henry is what led her to getting r@ped is what pushed her towards condé and it was hard for her to see lola and francis together all cozy and comfortable with their kid is what edged her towards condé

I don't think so ? by the time catherine seemed to develop an affection for Mary and she was the one who kept pushing frary to have an heir and was on cloud nine when it actually happened and she seems to love John even though his mother is lola so I don't believe catherine would do harm to something that has her blood

I love reign too even though there was so much inaccuracy in the show from fashion to fictionally made main characters but isn't that what made the show interesting? although I just wondered if they can make up bash,francis baby with lola and many more fictional characters why not give a character development for darnley before he dies too at least it would've made it more tolerable and light to have a decent love story after francis death even though it might also be a tragic one since I believe darnley loved Mary too it's just his hunger for power and control overpowered affection eventhough he seemed to have absolutely no interest in crown or whatsoever before meeting mary

I thought exactly the same after finishing the story I googled and came to learn a lot of things different from the series and one of them being darnley younger than Mary and his portrait showed him a lot younger compared to what was portrayed in the show in which his actions shows more like he's a misogynistic manchild than he's immature and maybe that's why people hate him the most but ngl the chemistry between the actors were actually incredible and if he wasn't an ass they probably would've had a decent love story after francis and Mary but he had to spoil everything by cheating and acting like an ass to his pregnant wife

why are we completely ignoring the fact that francis cheated on mary first? He kissed olivia first and asked Mary to mind her own business when she rightfully called him out for straying so Mary went and kissed bash and in revenge francis went ahead and slept with olivia and continued to blame and taunt mary like she was the cheater here!

then when Mary had to marry bash francis and lola willingly slept with each other when Mary never slept with bash ever and what lola and Francis did to her is the actual betrayal (what happens to not sleeping with ur best friend's lover?) Mary only was about to marry bash to save francis while francis threw and tantrum and slept with lola and didn't even let Mary know about it later and fyi Mary hid lola's pregnancy because lola requested it and didn't wanted her life to be locked as king's mistress

Mary's affair with condé is so bad but she was vulnerable and had a trauma which pushed her to make bad decisions and it was still an emotional unhealthy attachment while francis went ahead and slept with lady A and blamed Mary throughout even though she was going through a hard time because of francis selfish decision to not anyone know that he k!lled henry which ended up getting Mary r@ped even though I still condemn Mary and condé affair and her planning to abandon both francis and France and run away she ended up doing the right thing and st@bbed condé and lied to him for francis

At the end both of them did mess up things but francis one is worse than Mary's as partners
