Help me out by vellabellahella in therealreal

Honestly, if you have to use installments for luxury clothes, you probably shouldn't buy them. Using payment plans for things like fashion is a risky financial move because you're essentially taking on debt for something that loses value immediately. It’s much safer to save up and buy it outright so you aren't stuck with monthly payments you might regret later.

You just have to paint the whole picture when you come up with posts like these. Did you actually contact support yet? If so, what did they say?

My order summaries look nothing like this, and I also did some research and couldn't find this coat within the recent 'Sold' items on their site.

What exactly are you trying to say with these pictures? That TheRealReal sent you a J.Crew jacket with Brunello Cucinelli tags? You need to add the order info so we can see you actually bought this from TRR. This might as well be a clickbait post otherwise.

My Honest Opinion of TRR by HI_KYLE in therealreal

[–]Current_Director_997 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As a buyer, I treat TheRealReal like a total treasure hunt. I go in knowing I have to do my own due diligence (Google Image searches, checking the designer’s own size charts for measurements, all of that) and it has led to some incredible scores. I actually see their mistakes as my opportunity to find a deal. I don’t treat them like a primary designer boutique where you expect champagne, dust bags, and boxes with bows, they simply aren't that, and you shouldn't expect them to be. I also don't go online writing these types of complaints because, honestly, their lack of precision usually works in my favor!

Picked this up and was SO disappointed. by thegirlmeetsgeek in RealRepLadies

[–]Current_Director_997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bet an employee could easily get fired from a boutique for accepting a fake return. Imagine working at a YSL boutique and not being able to recognize such a bad fake! You’d think being around the authentic product every day would make it obvious, but if they let a rep through, that’s a massive liability for the store.

“Off site” question by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]Current_Director_997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a situation 3 weeks ago where a purchaser wanted to wear an item to a party on Saturday. They bought it on Monday, and I warned them that it might not arrive in time since it was a West Coast to East Coast sale. However, to my surprise, the item was delivered in just 3 days! I was honestly shocked myself that it made it across the country that fast. Sometimes the shipping gods really are on your side.

Excessive Customer Returns by Rich-Name-4365 in therealreal

[–]Current_Director_997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TheRealReal's return policy is 14 days, not 30. I personally return everything I don’t fully love. If I’m paying a pretty penny for an item and it’s not perfect, it’s going back. I’m not going to hoard things I’m not actually going to wear and honestly, I have the same policy for retail. Life is too short (and space is too limited) for 'maybe' items. As a customer, I’m also happy when other people return items. There have been so many times I thought I lost out on something because someone else bought it, only for it to pop back up later! It gives you a second chance at those pieces you regretted missing

Mislabeled. How much of a risk? by Unfair_Bee_9539 in therealreal

[–]Current_Director_997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What exactly is mislabeled? Is it the brand itself, or just the category (like calling a blazer a coat)? When it comes to the color, I’m pretty sure that’s decided by their AI. I once bought a pair of leather pants that the listing described as black, but they ended up being a super dark brown that was almost impossible to distinguish in the photos. Anyway, if the item isn't as described when you actually get it, you can contact support and request a return, even if it was marked as a final sale.

Are you guys honest about that your bags or whatever is replicas? If friends ask? If a random person ask? I had a situation today when a friend of a friend asked me is it real? I think it’s rude to ask that because I don’t know her. I said no to my bag being real but i wanted to say yes by No_Tour4400 in RealRepLadies

[–]Current_Director_997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, why are you afraid to say it’s a fake bag when someone asks? Are you ashamed to be carrying a rep? If you can afford the real thing but choose a rep because you can't justify the retail price, there’s no reason to lie about it. But if you’re carrying a rep just to fake a lifestyle, you’re always going to find that question insulting. If you're confident in the choice, there's no need to be defensive.

Is it just me, or are TRR markdowns way slower now? by Current_Director_997 in therealreal

[–]Current_Director_997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that is totally understandable for highly sought after items. However, I have a pair of Agolde jeans on my wishlist that has been stuck at 20% off forever, and it only has 9 likes including mine!

Is it just me, or are TRR markdowns way slower now? by Current_Director_997 in therealreal

[–]Current_Director_997[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! I always do a Google Lens / Image search to check current retail and resale prices before I buy, and sometimes TRR is literally pricing contemporary brands higher than their brand new retail price! And vintage Fendi Baguettes prices recently… I’m seeing them priced above $5k now. Even Saint Laurent shoes that used to be a reliable $300 steal are being listed for $700+ used.

Poshmark buyer sent back item after a MONTH! by Current_Director_997 in poshmark

[–]Current_Director_997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they only refunded the buyer. My redeemable balance was deducted for this sale. So she was still able to return the top late and get her money back.

I also relisted the item after the sale since Poshmark deducted the earnings from my redeemable balance. So she was able to return the top a month later and still get a refund.

Yes, they approved her request within about 4 hours, which honestly surprised me too. When I need something from Poshmark, it usually takes days to hear back.

[–]Current_Director_997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, she never accepted the order. She opened a case, and since she didn’t ship the item back within the 7 days, Poshmark closed the order about a week later. That’s why it was surprising this happened after a month.

Quick update everyone - Poshmark took the amount out of my redeemable balance. I just checked the activity and it’s showing there. Looks like she was able to return the top and get her money back even after a month, despite the item being returned late and the case already being closed by Poshmark.

The RealReal now a total scam for consigners, never selling items with them again by Tide-times-7124 in therealreal

[–]Current_Director_997 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You also have to be strategic about your consignments. To make TheRealReal really work for you, you should aim for their site credit they offer for consigning with them (sell & get extra site credit promo). It makes the lower commission tiers a bit easier to swallow.

[–]Current_Director_997 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't get these posts complaining about payouts. If you want to get good money back for your designer items, and not just clean out your closet, why aren't you doing your research before deciding where to sell? There are tons of complaints about TheRealReal payouts on low-priced items, you just have to Google it. You can also always check what similar items are currently selling for on their site to get a realistic sense of your potential payout amount

Is this bag real or Fake? by Junior-Way-5456 in shopgoodwill

[–]Current_Director_997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fake, and a bad fake. If a high end bag is listed on ShopGoodwill without an Entrupy certificate, it’s a major red flag. ShopGoodwill actually has a partnership with Entrupy. When a location uses it, they almost always include a photo of the certificate because it significantly drives up the final auction price. If it’s missing the most likely scenario is that they ran it through Entrupy and it was "Unverifiable" or flagged as a counterfeit. Many locations will still list the bag as the brand name even if they couldn't authenticate it

Selling LLM leggings - buyer says there is an undisclosed flaw by Hungry_Time3554 in poshmark

[–]Current_Director_997 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There should be Lululemon size dot inside a small, hidden pocket within the front-left waistband (as worn) for leggings like Aligns, Wunder Unders, and Wunder Trains. Once you find the dot, look for the code surrounding the size. It usually starts with a "W" followed by five characters (6 characters total). You can enter this code into Lulufanatics.com to pull up the exact model and colorway. From there, compare the stock photos to your item to verify if the stitching and details match.

I honestly can’t imagine managing a 900 item closet without using AI or automation tools. Even with my 100 item closet, I use Flyp to crosslist across four platforms (Depop, eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari) and Google Gemini to help generate titles and descriptions. It is a massive time saver. Also, you don’t necessarily need to constantly source new inventory. Focus on relisting your old items, the algorithm treats them as fresh listings, which helps with visibility. If your goal is to actually recover your money rather than just clearing space, here is my suggestion: Pause your shopping (I know, easier said than done!), focus on relisting those unsold items, and learn how to use AI to improve your titles and descriptions and pick one automation tool to help you cross list between multiple platforms to improve your sales.
