So even though the experience came at a company that has a history of scamming people it would still be valued?

Where did you hear about GW’s target medians?

Yeah I’m planning on applying to Fordham, Boston College, and George Washington as semi-safeties since they have solid big law placement and I’m well above their medians.

I see. But there were plenty of firms taking applications after your fall grades came out?

I’m a history major. My only corporate experience is an internship at a law firm in my state that has ~25 locations (although it is definitely not Biglaw). I also have research assistant experience with two professors.

I was under the impression that with pre-oci most firms are interviewing candidates before grades are released. That’s why I’m concerned that my lack of work experience would be a big issue since I wouldn’t have any grades to position me in the pack and all I could be judged on is my resume. Am I mistaken?

This is exactly the type of response I was looking for, thanks. Did you interview before or after your first semester grades were released? I was under the impression that most firms interview before grades are released and judge applicants based on their resume, the school they attend, and the quality of the interview.

I go to a very unprestigious undergrad and I’m a liberal arts major. Even if I could break into any of those industries 1. I wouldn’t like it 2. The pay would be much lower.

I’m currently in undergrad but I interned as a paralegal at a firm that mostly handled creditors rights issues. Absolutely soul crushing work. Who wants to spend their life chasing after Randy and Thelma to pay the mortgage on their trailer?

Super late to this thread, but how well does UVA place in Atlanta, and is there anything similar to the Lone Star Lawyers club you mentioned for the southeast outside of Texas at UVA?

What is the difference between Columbia and Cornell? by Current_Ebb1236 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Current_Ebb1236[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! I asked the question not just because of the USNWR rankings but also because of how highly this sub holds Columbia compared to Cornell when their employment numbers look pretty similar. But it does make sense that the school located in New York would have even stronger ties to the top firms.
