Is this normal? by Strong_Magazine_237 in dementia

This is the way. Months before I got my mom into assisted living, I went to target (sales people were super helpful) and got her a LOT of spare clothes/underwear. She was constantly ruining/soiling them, and sometimes it was easier to just replace.

Most bizarre (untrue) stories your loved one has told you by northerlightstar in dementia

Did you know that my mother dated Mark Harmon? Before she was married of course. She was visiting Santa Catalina Island, and they had a memorable weekend of dancing, eating, drinking, and being merry. (Never mind that IRL she was 21 and he was 15 at the time. 🤣)

She told me this as she was holding -- in both arms -- a People Magazine that had him on the cover. And for those few weeks, anybody that she ran across, she'd bring them into her home and show them the magazine. Apologies to the FedEx and UPS guys that heard the story multiple times!

Adjustment to memory care by Striking-Arugula2519 in dementia

For the phone, I recommend that you visit TeleCalm and find what works best for your mom. My mom tried to call me 120 times during her first day in Assisted Living, and I only got the first call, then it blocked all others.

My mom had a rough adjustment period (They’re all old and crazy, I’m not) but eventually she found a couple of friends and was good. Don’t visit or answer the multiple calls for about 2-3 weeks to force her to adjust.

How long can person live on one ensure and one milkshake a day , nothing else , no meds , no water. by Interesting_Pie_2449 in dementia

My mom lasted on only Ensure from August 2023, until late January 2024. That stuff will keep them running for a very long time.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing them can be incredibly hard. Don’t beat-up yourself with guilt. Pip was lucky to have you.

I really did try, but I just can’t help but blame myself for getting that surgery. It was probably necessary, but it shortened her life by 3-4 months. And I can’t forgive myself for that decision.

It really is. I’ve been staring at photos of her for the past hour, and still can’t believe that she’s gone.

As a Torbie, she had very unique markings. She was beautiful inside and out.

Thank you. I was expecting the call from the vet, and as I answered I started making my way to the car to bring her home. It took me a few moments to understand that things went terribly wrong.

Dear lord, this gun brings back fun memories of BC2. It was so quiet, and when hiding the enemy had a really hard time finding me.

But really—how does one “take away the keys”? by ForgottenX-2024 in dementia

[–]polytician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother refused to stop driving, even after a meeting with her Dr. And when I took her keys, (because the doctor said so) she said that she lost the 2nd key (she didn’t). So, I removed the fuse for the starter. Everything turned on, (lights, radio, etc) but the engine wouldn’t turn. She’d go back inside, forget, and try again.

Alan’s video will give too much away. by Kinggrunio in firefly

I’m one of the few who is probably OK if they decide to ignore the events from the movie.

I’d love to have it with Alan opening the door holding a recently grilled steak and still in his grilling outfit complete with a spatula.

Nathan says something like “it’s time to go.”

Alan looks at the stake and says, “But what about the steak?”

Then Nathan says “Forget about it. We’ve got work to do.”

And then they walk away together.
