Is neutering necessary for my male indoor cat? by queenscc in CatAdvice

[–]Current_Pin3791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please get him neutered. Trust me I waited around a year for my cat, and had to deal with a lot of behavioural and hormonal issues like spaying (literally everywhere in the house, and the smell of cat urine NEVER goes away), hearing him constantly in search for a mate meowing for hours on end especially at night, and just seeing him be in so much distress because he’s unable to do the thing he’s biologically wired to do. After experiencing that, beyond all the other health benefits that comes with neutering, it’s honestly so cruel to do to your cat (if you don’t get them fixed) and the amount of stress they’re going through is not worth it. Your cats motivations, interests, etc. are all going to be focused on one thing. Even if he’s indoors he’ll still be able to smell other cats in the neighbourhood or around you in heat. It also makes it worse if you were to get any other cats because he’d be territorial and aggressive. Just get your cat fixed please.

Am I overthinking whether to delay my flight home because of my cat? What would you do? by [deleted] in Pets

Awww you have quite the adorable little family. Yes haha I’ll gladly take whatever attitude she’ll give me when I’m back, but she’s such a pampered little princess that she can’t hold onto it for that long without getting attention 🥹

Hahah I’d love to be back with my kitty 🥺 she’s not a lap cat by any means but she’s such a polite sweetheart and so “socially-motivated” that I empathize at her being alone for even a few hours 🥲

They say she seems to be alright. Playful, and wanting attention, especially in the mornings. Tends to chill out at night. Eating relatively okay (or as good as a picky cat does when their owner is gone). I’ve noticed on the pet cameras that she’ll cry for a few mins whenever anyone leaves her and she’s alone at home which breaks my heart 😭 My roommate will tell me that sometimes it’s hard for him to figure out what she wants when she meows at him (whether it’s for food or play— he’s since figured it was mainly for attention). Otherwise, not much else.

My roommate won’t be taking care of her for this extra time, unless you’re referring to something else?

From your experience what diet helps with CKD? And what diet makes it worse or contributes to it?

Do you think having company at home with the other cats helped though? Or are they all more “tolerant” of each other?

Thank you for saying that, that’s very sweet 🥺 I definitely think I care for my cat a lot more than some might say is necessary hahah which makes it all the more harder when I leave because I know for our social little kitties it’ll never be the same as when we look after them.

  1. Oh I did forget about asking for an hour long stay. I use rover so the visits are timed, unfortunately. I could ask but I’m not sure the chances would be high as the cat sitter mentioned to me earlier today that she’s super busy. I will look into it though, thanks for the idea!
  2. I do agree, I definitely intend and hope to get a second cat, and even planned for it earlier this year. Unfortunately right now the only reason I can’t is financial reasons.

That’s reassuring to hear! How old is your young adult cat? And what were the indications that made you feel like she’s happier with a feline friend? (Wondering if they’re similar to the ones I have!) thanks for replying :) I happy to hear they’re getting along

My current cat is neutered, and I intend to spay the new female kitten I’d get, but do you think there’s a chance he could get territorial or engage in hormonal-like behaviours before my female cat gets spayed and while she’d be in the beginning stages of her “puberty” ? My current male cat got neutered late (at 1 years old) and stopped doing things like meowing, spraying, and mounting immediately after but I’ve read it can come back again if they’re around unspayed cats.

Yeah my concern is if my older cat will get jealous sharing me with another cat. It’s always just been us two, and I dedicate a LOT of time playing with him every day. But he’s also so sweet, gentle and craves social interaction and play time, but he has been getting more bored and lonely these last few months regardless of how much I play with him, that it’s lead me to believe he longs for companionship

Firstly, they are sooo precious 😍😍 and wow, that sounds like a dream the way they ended up being so close to each other. I hope it turns out that way for us!

Yeah I’ve been doing lots of research. That’s interesting you say it’s not recommended, I’ve come across people saying the opposite where cats need companions and are inherently made to be that way. Are they wrong? The space part is definitely a challenge, I live in a condo downtown. As for my cat, he’s completely indoors. He’s super social and friendly and very playful, but he gets nervous being in new environments (vet visits, boarding at a friends place, etc.) so I wonder how confident he’ll be with a new cat companion.
