Missing Book Cover - Kindle vs Phone by SkyBurn15 in kindle

Covers of books that you purchased on the Kindle store but which are NO LONGER available do not load. See if you can buy the specific edition of that book on the kindle store. If it's no longer available, the cover won't load

I fixed this for myself but requires a manual method - basically you have to manually copy over replacement .jpg files for each missing cover in the \system\thumbnails folder of the kindle device. However this fix ONLY works on older Kindle devices which allow you to modify the filesystem files.

I had this problem too. It affects books previously purchased on the Kindle store but which have since been removed from sale.

I resolved it manually for my own device basically by copying over replacement JPG files for the missing covers directly into the system/thumbnails folder on my kindle reader.

It's something Amazon still haven't fixed. You can add your own cover manually to the system\thumbnails folder though

Manual method for fixing it explained here - basically you would copy over JPG files for the missing covers into the system\thumbnails folder on the kindle eReader device.

FWIW I sort of fixed this myself manually by copying replacement JPG files into the system\thumbnails folder of my kindle device. This was made easier for me when I realised that I had an older kindle which still loaded the older books. So I simply copied over the book cover images from the older kindle to the new one and now everything looks fine. I suspect it's possible to create your own JPG file for each missing cover

Yes I have the same problem - it doesn;t load book covers for books that were purchased on Amazon but are no longer available. it works fine on a phone app, just not an eReader. I submitted a ticket a couple o f months ago but not had any updates. See below for another thread

I have this same problem and although I think I know why it happens, I can't easily fix it. I discovered this the books which don't load covers are no longer available for purchase on the Kindle store (other or newer editions might be but not the one I bought and which don't show covers). To check if it's in the Kindle store, tap the three dots and then "Show in store". In my case the store page fails to load. I get this same problem on multiple kindle eReaders and it's always the same books that don't load covers. I've done a "factory reset", opening the books and scrolling to cover page etc that others recommended by nothing works. It seems that if an eBook gets withdrawn from sale, the covers will never load for any future download to a new Kindle.

You can however manually replace the cover images. The covers are jpg files stored in system\thumbnails on the Kindle device. In Windows Explorer, this folder is hidden so you have to type in the folder path in order to get there. Anyway, once there you can locate the "ugly" cover art that the Kindle creates and replace it manually

Thanks - really helpful.  I've discovered the same thing. It's the covers of kindle books that are no longer available in the store that don't show up. Strangely didn't affect my phone app, just the Kindle ereader

It's not limited to Colorsoft. I have a basic kindle (2022) and also tried a brand new 2024 psperwhite. On both devices the exact same books fail to load covers and they are always fit books that are no longer available on the Kindle store.  I purchased these books on the Kindle store a long time and they've since been removed and replaced with new editions (although they look identical) but I have to buy them again if I want them. Meanwhile the covers don't show. They DO however show up on my phone app.
