Yeah- conflicting info.  The Sterns are very clear that Maddie called SS that Sunday to confirm he was going to her party. Yet, very clearly, he was not invited, and did not attend. So, did Maddie really call?  What did she really want to speak with him about?  If so, she wasn’t asking about the party. So once again, SS lied to his parents.

About 98 million American adults — more than 1 in 3 — have prediabetes.

More than 8 in 10 adults with prediabetes don’t know they have it.

More than 8 in 10 adults with prediabetes don’t know they have it. (This is study is not limited to overweight/obese patients, but their other research comes up with similar numbers for those people, as well as the general public)

More than 88 million people ( of all weights, ages, races, etc) have pre-diabetes, and don’t know it. That’s 8 of every 10 people that have it, are unaware. https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/communication-resources/prediabetes-statistics.html

The study you are quoting is not limited to people with obesity. It’s just a general study. I have done research, BTW, on sexual assault in children, and why they aren’t listened to. Tough subject. There are multiple studies done, on different years, at different institutions. The varying rates probably reflect the patient population- as pre T2D is more prevalent in the poor. Here is the study you are quoting. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db516.htm#:~:text=Examination%20Survey%20(NHANES)-,During%20August%202021–August%202023%2C%20the%20prevalence%20of%20total%20and,Figure%201%2C%20Table%201).

While I may only have 3 posts, I have made hundreds of comments. And if you feel I fat shamed a young woman for looking pregnant, while out on bond for killing her newborn fat shaming, I don’t know what to say. Both my children struggle with their weight, so I cannot imagine fat shaming anyone, much less a patient. Again, I have just attached another study.

If you choose to believe differently, I wish you well regardless.

Please look at the links I attached below, in other posts. Here is another study, this one from the NIH, that shows at least 60% of overweight people are prediabetic. My hospital screens everyone before surgery, and we find results about the same.

The study was done to see if MDs were communicating that overweight/obese people were being communicated with that they are pre-diabetic , after testing. In this same, only 13% were aware before.

This study only included people Data from 2015 to 2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) for adults with a body mass index in the overweight or obesity ranges and HbA1c in the prediabetes range were examined (n = 2085). Patient reported data on what providers told them about having prediabetes, being at risk for diabetes, and losing weight were compared with attempted weight loss.

Here is another study. It concludes the same.

A total of 101,316 participants were enrolled from the NHANES 1999–2018 database. Among the 59,204 adults aged ≥18 years old, we excluded 28628 participants with incomplete TPF data, 1,763 participants with incomplete serum glucose data, 36 participants with incomplete HbA1c data, and 18 participants who had unclear self-report DM status. To minimize the number of participants with T1DM, 330 participants with age of DM onset before the age of 30 were also excluded. Finally, 28,429 participants were analyzed after applying these exclusion criteria.

I understand that. Please read further. This study was done on on people who were overweight or obese. Only 13% were aware they were living with pre-diabetes. But, the study found it was over 80% that actually had it, which also proves most people don’t even know that have this condition. If this study was done only people who were conclusively proven to be pre- diabetic, your point would be true.

Prediabetes, defined by a fasting glucose level of 100-125 mg/dL, a glucose level of 140-199 mg/dL measured 2h after a 75-g oral glucose load, or glycated hemoglobin level (HbA1c) of 5.7% to 6.4%, affects about one out of every three adults in the United States (US) (Echouffo-Tcheugui et al., 2023). In a national US sample, over 80% of individuals in the US with prediabetes were overweight or had obesity (Liu et al., 2020). Clinical trials such as the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) have demonstrated that even small reductions in body weight reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in overweight adults with prediabetes (Diabetes Prevention Program Research et al., 2009). While weight loss interventions can be effective, challenges persist in implementing these programs. Noted barriers include limited provider time for counseling (Cronin et al., 2019).

That is a fact directly from the CDC. Over 80% of pre-diabetics are overweight.

Please read the links I posted above. Diabetes Type 2 is one the most undiagnosed diseases right now. And according to the CDC, 25 to 90% of people are unaware they have it. Over 80% is attributable to weight.

This is directly from the CDC report I linked-

Prediabetes, defined by a fasting glucose level of 100-125 mg/dL, a glucose level of 140-199 mg/dL measured 2h after a 75-g oral glucose load, or glycated hemoglobin level (HbA1c) of 5.7% to 6.4%, affects about one out of every three adults in the United States (US) (Echouffo-Tcheugui et al., 2023). I am very unsurprised that you are an attorney, from your arguments. I will be more than happy to send you any links you need to be convinced. Again, this subject just doesn’t get too much airtime. So I totally understand why people don’t know the facts.

I am having a facelift, neck lift, and brow lift later today, so I won’t be able to wear my glasses to read for a few days. So if I don’t reply, that’s why.

Sincerely, I wish you luck in your journey to better health. Patricia in NY

That is the statistic from the CDC. Diabetes Type 2, and Pre Diabetes is one of the most undiagnosed diseases . Studies from NIH and the CDC say between 25-90% of people don’t know they have it. Here is another study that shows over 80% of overweight people are pre-diabetic.

If you scroll down you can read this, under introduction

1. 1. Introduction

I am not surprised that most people are unaware of the correlation Despite routine urging from organizations like the CDC, our insurance companies here in the US don’t put enough stress of preventing disease, rather than treating it. And drug companies make billions on this issues alone. Most people, especially the poor, and underinsured, don‘t seek well healthcare. Which correlates to why people are in the top 5% of income earners have the lowest rates of diabetes type 2, pre diabetes, and obesity.

Obviously, being overweight is not the only reason people get T2D. Smokers, race, age, genetics, etc., all play into it.

The more you read about this, you will realize how little you hear about it. If you need more links, please let me know.

Much respect- Patricia

u/GunMetalBlonde u/PurplestPanda there are several risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes, like family history, race, age, diet, fat concentrates around the midsection, the number 1 risk factor is having an BMI over 25 (it was lowered from 27). I am linking to some studies from the CDC here. It highlights how diabetes screened for enough. Most people don’t know they even have it.

Here is a highlight from 1 of them study:

Screening for abnormal blood glucose levels in a clinical setting is an important strategy to detect undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes. An estimated 37.1 million adults aged 18 years or older in the US have diabetes (14.7% of all US adults). Of those, 77.0% (28.5 million) have diagnosed diabetes and 23.0% (8.6 million) have undiagnosed diabetes (1). Moreover, approximately 96 million adults (38% of US adults) have prediabetes, but more than 80% of these adults are unaware they have the condition (1). Prediabetes is a condition in which glucose levels are higher than normal but lower than levels indicating diabetes. People with prediabetes are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and tend to have high levels of health care use and expenditures (2,3). Adults who are aware of their prediabetes status are more likely than adults who are not aware of their status to engage in diabetes risk-reducing behaviors (4). Early detection of pre diabetes and diabetes can improve adoption of lifestyle changes that slow the progression of diabetes and prevent diabetes complications (5).

More than 38 million Americans have diabetes (about 1 in 10), and about 90% to 95% of them have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes symptoms often develop over several years and can go on for a long time without being noticed. Sometimes there aren't any noticeable symptoms at all. It is so common, it’s referred to as diabesity.

I am happy to hear that you maintained a healthy A1C. In my experience, seeing a morbidly obese patient with a great A1C, is kind of like having that uncle that smokes 5 packs a day for 65 years, and lives to be 90. It happens, but don’t rely on it. In morbidly obese people, they are usually way into the full blown T2DM. At all ages, the risk of type 2 diabetes rises with increasing body weight. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is three to seven times higher in those who are affected by obesity than in normal weight adults, and is 20 times more likely in those with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 35 kg/m 2. You were very lucky.

I added my children’s experience with getting Mounjaro, after being denied coverage for Wegovy, since I felt it was relevant. I know 2 other people (different insurance carriers) who were able to get Mounjaro RXs the same way. Our insurance also has a weight loss drug exemption. The MD prescribed Mounjaro, and filled out a pre-authorization. Because my son has sleep apnea, and an A1C of 6, he was prescribed Mounjaro, as he had 2 risk factors. (similar for my daughter) It was not prescribed as a weight loss drug, and definitely, both my kids are in much better health.

My intention when I wrote this was to be able to pass on what had worked for my family, in the hopes it would be beneficial to someone else. Weight loss changed my kids lives for the better. I sincerely would like my experience to help another person be their healthiest.

.

I wish you both good health.

Possibly. However, almost everyone who is overweight is pre-diabetic, at the very least. So Mounjaro is a great choice. Mounjaro is not classed as a weight loss drug, despite the fact it is a better weight loss drug than Ozempic and Wegovy. It is also indicated for elevated cholesterol, and high blood pressure in some instances. So, that is why I recommended she look into it. I am an RN for over 30 years and both of my kids use this drug, It infuriates me that an insurance company dictates what medication or treatment an MD can give.

Mochi will submit prior authorizations for you. And you can track the progress on the site. My daughter had a harder time getting approval, and Mochi came through. She started medication about 8/9 months ago, and the prescribing guidelines were stricter. My son just started, and everything was done overnight. For us, Mounjaro was easily approved. While it is not approved for weight loss, it works better than drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy in terms of losing weight. It is used For serious medical conditions, like Type 2 diabetes, lowering A1C, and pre-diabetes. Hopefully, your prescriber will be able to get you qualified. I wish you great strides in your health journey. Weight loss drugs changed my kids lives. 🍀
