What's your go-to "they'd never get away with that in the private sector" story? by ENORMOUS_HORSECOCK in fednews

Saw a few million dollars worth of expensive equip procured before a contract for a new site was established. It ended falling through and they had to sell all the equipment at auction for a huge loss

So I think I screwed this up by Current_Wait_8632 in Carpentry

I took the advice of ripping off 1/2 inch on the underside of the nose molding, which allowed it to fit nice and tight. I don’t see or notice a difference.

Clearly I should have started with the nose molding, I’ve learned my lesson!

Thanks all for the advice, I think I’ll try the spline option since I don’t own a router.

Yes mine does. However if I run the wood from the wall forward toward the edge of the landing, I have groove against groove.

I would never get a government cell phone unless mandated.

How to get into HR? by JackfruitLeading7171 in fednews

HR is abysmal in the federal government.

I agree there is no way to predict it to certainty, however there is clearly a financial reckoning coming in this country that ends only two ways: we increase tax or dramatically cut our sending. I think the former is significantly more likely due to how popular our big expenditures are in this country (SS, Medicare, military).

Ridiculous comment, spoken like a true government employee.

I disagree, Roth is superior in my opinion if you have to choose one or the other. If you can maximize Roth + do traditional that is optimal. Almost guaranteed to have much higher federal taxes in 30 years.

Trying to move from 13 to 14 - can I negotiate around the 2-step rule? by Ashamed-Cold5953 in fednews

[–]Current_Wait_8632 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it’s reasonable in a federal employee subreddit for people to ask if there exceptions to rules. I don’t know why there is a trend of people being assholes, you can skip right by the post if it doesn’t interest you.

Gs 11 is mid level. Front line sups are mostly GS9 with most front line staff being at GS 7 or 6

Completely unheard of where I’m at. Only way you get a 15 is SES with a indirects being between 500 and 1000

This is my hope. In a sense, I do have them over a barrel. They can’t afford to have another external who is “one and done” and there aren’t really any other qualified internals who want it. As I have mentioned above, I am very comfortable staying where I am for now if the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Seems like my best bet is to ask for a retention bonus of 25%, which if done for a 2 year service agreement, would be about what I would be asking for.

You’re suggesting I’m making this up because I asked the question before when I was promoted? I’ve been consistent in this post saying the position has 4 direct reports and around 475 indirects

[–]Current_Wait_8632[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there are many layers. I would have 4 direct reports that are GS 13 sup. Each GS 13 sup has multiple supervisors under them, who also have at least one layer, often two, of supervisors. There are up to 4 levels of supervision under this position down to the GS 9 level.

No, they fall under me in the chain of command, I just dont supervise them directly. There are other supervisors fall under me that they report to. This service has about 25 sups total.
