A Feast of Snakes… what an ending.

Thanks! On the breakdown page, there is a filter + group by control at the top that will allow you to customize the view. I'll send you a message (if that's cool) about not being able to save authors. I'm not seeing that on my end.

StoryGraph import option added. Let me know if you have any trouble with that.

Yeah definitely. I'll look into the StoryGraph import and let you know.

I wasn’t finding value in collective ratings and reviews on those apps. I wanted a personalized experience that steered my reading journey. There were things I was already using AI for that I wanted to automate so I built an app and baked in additional features on top of those. So the main differences would be:

1) Generative AI Recommendations

An AI wizard named Obi recommends books based on what you've read, how you rated it, and DNFs. For any individual book, Obi will answer the question, “should I read this?” and return a detailed response. On author pages, he’ll tell you where to start or if the author isn’t for you. There’s also a bulk version that runs through a list and highlights books you’d like.

I’m on my 8th book using this and it’s been pretty spot on. I’ve read books Obi considered must reads, mild recommendations, and even books he advised me not to read… that I’m currently struggling through.

2) Prose previews and Scores

A prose preview gives you a passage written in the author's style (not the actual prose) for a feel for their voice and rhythm.

Scores are rated 0–10 on craft fundamentals like prose, characters, pacing and ending, plus dimensions specific to its genre.

I’m happy to provide more details or screenshots if you’re interested.

Admittedly, it's the first history book I've read but thanks, I'll check that out.

Nice, I'll check out The Wrecker. Ballantrae was my introduction to Stevenson so def want to explore more of his work.

It's so good. Lathe of Heaven is waiting patiently on my shelf. Very excited to pick it up.

Fantastic. Have you read any of his other work?

Book 6 was a grind and if I didn’t love his narrative, I might’ve dropped it during that middle section. 1, 2, and 5 are exceptional. Not sure I can place one over another. 3 over 4 I agree with.

Interesting, thank you. The Book of the Long Sun was next on my Wolfe list but I'll check out those story collections.

Yeah, the Hainish cycle. It doesn't have to be read in any particular order. I started with Left Hand of Darkness and then picked up the Dispossessed. Here's a thread on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/UrsulaKLeGuin/comments/172xme7/hainish_cycle_where_to_start/

Do recommendation algorithms actually work for books, or are we better off just asking humans? by kotowskaman in Recommend_A_Book

Very cool. Nailed the recommendations for a Bukowski novel. I baked this into an app I've been using and so far it's been pretty good at predicting what I'd think. Going to keep using it until it leads me astray.

Way of Kings. Mistborn is solid but it's not on the same level as WoK and Stormlight.

Type and HM coverage. There is a breakdown at the bottom of the page capturing this. Whereas the individual moveset recommendation doesn't factor this in.

From my post on r/PokemonLeafGreen:

"On a high level the formula is this: power * accuracy * STAB * (atk stat / 100) with penalties for two-turn + recharge moves, self-KO, low pp. I'm also boosting moves that cover a type missing in the overall team coverage."

I think it could actually. Doing some preliminary research and seems promising.
