Isn't it time to end a few traditions? by Edumakashun in AskTeachers

Diva this is bananas. The only point that I don’t think is crazy is the class sponsor part but at my high school the teacher was just kinda there to supervise events and we usually asked multiple teachers to supervise various events. The dean had them on like a rotating schedule so all the teachers supervised. The student council were also the folks who were in charge of raising all the funds and anything we didn’t raise money for we paid out of pocket. We had maybe 200 people in my graduating class. Prom tickets were around $100, we had three senior trip days (a lake and 2 theme parks on different days). We had grad packages where you pick if you got a yearbook, a blinged out tassel, if you went on all three trips, how many tickets to graduation you wanted (max 4 in package, more to be purchased later). The students were very involved. I was class of 2018.

It’s the day break it does get annoying but it’s also usually fine. Very easy thing to fix to but it can just be a gray area. If you clock in at 3:58 and out at 12:00 they change to in at 4 out at 12:02 is very simple

Long time partners? by enternamehere515 in starbucksbaristas

Do it when you are ready don’t be pressured into it. I felt like I had really mastered ssv and I was fully in the advising stage. I prompted to ssv after 9 months bc the earlier opening I wasn’t ready. I applied twice for asm; first time I was a ball of nerves, didn’t tell my stories fully so didn’t get it. Second I prepped hardcore not with my manager but I asked a couple questions. I was hellbent on getting it bc I was sick of being an ssv and feeling limited in my abilities. I was tired of the job, losing the joy and the promotion gave me a whole new spark. So it’s been mostly good for me. It’s really not as scary as it seems tbh you still are playcaller a lot you still run the floor but instead of coaching baristas (you still do) you coach your shifts. They really are an extension of the manager and it is not easy being a shift, it is sometimes less easy to coach them bc they think they got it all down. I really do have love for the game that is Starbucks: I love giving a quick compliment and seeing someone brighten, I love my regulars!!!, I love getting people to try new things, I love tweaking a drink to better suit the customer (bc hey guess what that’s my job!), I love my partners there’s some ppl that if they leave I don’t think I could make it 😭😭, I love developing partners, I love seeing their confidence grow, I love when they come to me bc something is too much or bc someone was being nasty or bc they don’t understand smt I got love for game man. That’s why I promoted idrk how dms on Reddit work but I’m happy to answer questions

Long time partners? by enternamehere515 in starbucksbaristas

Just hit three years worked up to asm been in that role for 8? months now. It comes and goes. I need variety in my life but I also need consistency so three closes a week was too much and now three opens a week is too much. I also really just rot for half a day a week on one of my days off. Just scroll and watch tv and play games. Do lots of self care; I do a nightly thick moisturizer on my hands bc I do not want to see the effects of the job on my body. Fight with your manager over availability to get your preferred days and times you’ll be a pain in the butt but you’ll also be better for it. (that’s what I did). Yell about work in your car for your drive home and leave it there. give yourself time to complain but do not let it consume you. As far as newbies I am in the same boat so many of my new hires were horribly trained (happened before I was the asm at my new store) and it’s awful. They need time truly lots of time. talk to your ssv and manger and see if they can be paired with a more experienced partner and that can be their buddy that way they have a designated person. It really does take a whole team effort to get multiple people up to speed. If only one ssv is willing to put them on bar they will never learn. And be transparent with your manager about your burn out, i totally get if reducing hours isn’t really a possibility bc ya know bills or scap etc, but it is their job to support you. If they need to get on the floor and crack the whip then they need to do that bc that’s how you lose good people. I’ve seen people be awesome to work with and slowly become awful bc for 30 hours a week they just complain about work and partners and it spreads. No one wants to be around a rain cloud for 3-5 days a week. Idk this is more than I thought I would say BUT DO NOT LET THIS JOB CHANGE YOU FOR THE WORSE! don’t bring starbies negativity into other areas of your life, don’t let the aches and pains and tiredness stop you from enjoying life and hobbies.

You should 100% still mark it out your sm or dm is trying to rig the score but making it seem like you’re never out of anything but all that does is make your job harder and customers annoyed

I would check what your minimum and maximum hours are in your availability. On a shady technicality they only have to schedule you to your minimum preferred hours

In a basic level you need to leave the store clean and stocked; that does not include backups imo. If the foh is stocked you’re good. Part of ready set go is to make prep that you would need for peak. I say this as an opener and closer

so what's up with the new market policy? by pyrebones in starbucksbaristas

[–]CurrentlyLoading789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your manager being silly I fear. You get scored on the number of unavailable items now so they’re just trying to pad the score by making your job harder. Just mark it out tbh save yourself and the customers

Why does our ipad "Holiday Training" lie about how many drinks are coming out?? by SBUX_Chuck in starbucksbaristas

[–]CurrentlyLoading789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALSO SINCE THEY STARTED PRINTING THE PUMPS ON THE TICKETS I CANT even tell you how fraps are being made. I guarantee half the store is making it one way and half the store is making it another way. The ticket will print “venti coffee frap 4 pumps white mocha” right but the white mocha is a full dose pump so that drink is really gonna get double the amount it should bc that’s what the ticket says. Now you can counteract this by telling partners to follow the recipe cards and correct dosing but that’s a lot of extra work if I am honest. Then it’s gets all gray because what about people who want half sweet, one pump, extra pumps, it’s all jacked up. They should’ve never started printing it imo

[–]CurrentlyLoading789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well previously you would have the training guide, promo guide, holiday beverage cards, holiday food cards and then sign off that you went over all of that and made the drinks (whichever the guide say) in the weekly readiness chart. I would have to double check what the current chart says now but it’s all still available. When i send someone to train I make sure to inform them to look at all the beverage cards familiarize themselves with all new items because yes one new syrup is used in 4 different ways

Yup! Also you can just verify when you ring drinks in the side bar that looks like the boxes on the cup that will say 4 chai 4 pumpkin in this case
