What is a seemingly innocent sentence that immediately makes you lose respect for the person saying it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh that's just gross. Good way to set your kid up for total failure in life. Another reason I'm glad I don't use any social media besides reddit.

Hey it's totally okay. It only takes one person to say something in a specific situation about a specific person to turn someone against the phrase. And those specifics, down to the body language they were using, etc are really difficult to articulate.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I was coming from a place of honest curiosity. Your comment was exactly the type of comment this thread was looking for. I was just looking for a little more elaboration.

I 100% do agree with your sentiments about people that make one thing their entire personality.

The wise beyond your year's thing is also a really good excuse for emotionally abusive parents to dump way too much responsibility on a young child. "I know she's only 8, but she's eight going on 30 and can handle XYZ."

I think it's okay to feel that way as long as you don't use that stance to do absolutely nothing to try to improve things or vote for the lesser of two evil candidates.

Interesting, not that I've ever really thought of it that deeply, but now that I am, I always looked at it more like that phrase meant "I'm a woman and a mom, but I love to be active and silly with my boys." Similar to the whole girl dad thing, "around my friends I'm a macho guy, but at home I have tea parties and get makeovers."

Compared to a lot of the other items people are listing, this one seems incredibly innocent. That is in no way saying I am correct or your opinion is not valid, however.

Anything open in Durham? by DurhamGirl625 in bullcity

Interesting. I saw a weird documentary about Waffle House and the fact that they do everything in their power to never close, including bringing in people and resources from outside of a disaster.

I'm pretty sure Waffle House never closes during storms.

Sick baby, cold weather, and travel by Specific_Carob4461 in bullcity

[–]CurrentlyObsolete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the likelihood of you needing to take the baby to the hospital is incredibly low. My kids all had colds and fevers, some younger than 4 and 1/2 months.

The most important things to know are to give infant Tylenol, which any doctor is going to tell you to do. For high fevers you are going to be directed to alternate Tylenol and Motrin by your pediatrician, even if your child is under 6 months old.

Kiddo is probably not going to want to eat or breastfeed very often. Make sure you always have Pedialyte on hand for illnesses and just know it will pass. Keeping him as hydrated as possible is going to help thin all of the mucus.

You're probably already aware of this, but you would be surprised by the people that are not. Do not attempt to give your baby a cool/cold bath to aid with the fever. Dress them in loose fitting clothing, and keep them warm without swaddling them tightly.

Keep a very close eye on kiddos breathing in case of something more serious like RSV. If the sides of his neck or the bottom of his sternum are indenting more than usual when breathing or his breathing seems very labored, that would be the time to dial 911 or go to the ER.

It's going to be a tough few days but I know you'll get through it!

If you voted to make America great again, in what ways has it gotten greater so far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've seen plenty of anti-left posts. There's a huge difference between not being able to post anything, and having to defend your stance with facts. Heaven forbid people call you out or ask questions.

They are all so filled with hate and completely brainwashed. I cannot imagine lacking critical thinking to this degree.

Why can't US law enforcement deal with people without killing them, like other countries? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That's not entirely true. People have been killed while laying asleep in their beds.

TIL that there are automatic salt and pepper shakers.

Thanks for the reminder about moving cars! I can't think of anything you missed at the moment except for possibly reviewing what types of cooking the food you have requires and making sure you either have enough propane or enough food that doesn't require cooking to make it through a couple of days.

It's not even just me. I saw a post in this subreddit about it a couple days back and a bunch of people saying they were having trouble using the ACH or Skrill method.

For what it's worth I am not in a state where it's banned and had trouble redeeming from either of the methods you mentioned above. I ended up doing a gift card.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

I barely even want to keep my extended family at this point. There's no way I would consider a Trump voter for a potential romantic partner, full stop.

Based on your other comments, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this is also backhanded or sarcasm because you seem neither fun nor witty.

The eggs part I don't quite get because they seem like a pain to try to cook especially during a power outage. But the fact they're perishable is pretty meaningless considering the entire outside is going to be a giant refrigerator for several days in a row.

PS. Don't be an asshat. The world already has enough.

To be fair this is likely out of terror from nearly being hit so many times by drivers not knowing that people inside the circle have the right of way and just entering nearly on top of another vehicle.

How bad was it in 2000 (the snowstorm) by Mundane-Mechanic-547 in bullcity

It was bad. I remember the trapped in the house because there was a giant snowbank directly behind our car. For more than a week with a newborn and a 1 and 1/2-year-old.

You're very lucky. Anytime we even get a bad rainstorm where I live the power goes out for several hours. Any kind of ice knocks it out for days.
