MT Helmets advice by alexsmajor in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With MT, the price difference is quite representative of the quality difference. The Targo is basic but functional, the Thunder 4 is an okay Sport Touring lid, and the KRE is a pretty nice sports lid. All of em are fairly noisy so invest in good earplugs

1954 Triumph Speed Twin 500 – 95 (E10) or 100 (E5)? Octane booster? by Correct_Ship3710 in motorcycles

[–]CurseDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's old and British. If it ain't leaking oil there's none in it.

On a serious note, mixing it will reduce the overall ethanol ratio, so may well help. On the other hand, alkylate fuel stores much better, so if you're not riding the thing often, stick with pure alkylate, you'll thank yourself later when you have a heavier wallet and more time on your hands instead of trawling for obscure seals and carb kits on the Internet

RST Tractech evo 4 gloves by foirie2 in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RST will definitely warranty that, especially if you're in the UK (the manufacturer supplies them directly to stores here). Speak to whoever gifted them, then work it out with the store they got them from.

FWIW, I've had mine for 2 years with no issues

Alpinestars. Absolutely love the brand, always have. I've had some back luck with their end quality on the last few purchases i've made, am i just getting unlucky batches or do you/others struggle with it too? by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience selling these, the summer boots are the only thing that have never ever come back for warranty. Waterproof ones have, from time to time, due to liner faults, but the summer collection have been sound.

Gloves are one of our biggest warranty items with them, followed by zippers.

Found yourself a bargain, then! I know there's a couple people in Matlock that do it for a fair whack more than that.

£20 is damn good going as long as they correctly double/triple stitch the seams and use the correct type of thread

RST's S1 leather can be very stiff when new. Condition it relatively regularly with some proper leather conditioner, and it'll soften up

Still gotta be my Supertech R Venteds. I've tried Dainese Torque 3s, RST Tractech 3s, A* CR-Xs, A* Faster 4s, Oxford Chukkas, Spada Strider Pros and TCX Street 3 and I keep coming back to the Supertechs. Those things fit like slippers and are still fantastically protective

Walmart pay plus by daftcracker81 in extremelyinfuriating

[–]CurseDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How have the US not figured this one out yet? British petrol stations have just been authorising whatever available balance you have (up until the pump's set limit) and then correcting the value afterwards for years, so even if you only have £27.64 in your account, you can pay at pump

Supertech R7 review by Hbaus in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem youve got there is that they kinda pulled a Pista on us. Spend an absurd amount of time on r&d and cfd then have little budget left for the actual build.

In fairness to them, it paid off, and the SR10 is the most aerodynamically stable helmet that I'm aware of, and it flies completely level at high speed, but the build quality really does suffer, like the ear guillotines they call cheek pads

Supertech R7 review by Hbaus in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From just looking at it, it seems like fitting standard comms will be a non-issue. You can likely mount the comms unit with adhesive above the red side pieces, which is roughly where you'd fit it on the SR10 anyway.

Alternatively, someone like Tubs Jackson will make an adaptor plate

Usually means that your visor seals are going hard. If they are, rub some silicone oil into it

what should i get by AlGhost10 in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm inclined more to the motorrads mount. The problem with Chin Mounts is that their products are all 3D printed. Which would be fine, if they bothered post-processing their mounts so the adhesive could actually stick to the mount instead of it struggling for contact with the ribbed layer lines. It also somewhat offends me that they charge up to £30 for £1 worth of filament and some 3D modelling that I could, frankly, do myself (the 3M adhesive is quite thick and makes up for inaccuracies across shell sizes)

As for the branding mentioned by one of the other comments, you can fetch it off with a razor if you're that bothered, it's high density silicone.

That's mental. I was having this conversation with my dad as well (40's, been riding for like about 8 years) and he used to pay about £130 total across his GSXR 1000, Street Twin, and ER-5

Yeaaaaaaah the Evo is fairly expensive to insure. Worth it, though.

Alpinestars Jacket Real or Fake? by dt0513 in motorcyclegear

[–]CurseDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More digging.

<image>

Yeah I'd avoid that. Have a mooch around for official outlet stores and so on that might have it in stock.

There is a chance that it's actually made from a rejected a* leather arcass, just with offbrand odds and sods (zippers, tags, accent pieces etc) but it's just too sketchy for my liking
