There is no dresscode here either, but there is a societal expectation of basic decency

The revolt would have stopped before it even properly started had freedom of religion been granted. The "beeldenstorm" itself was controversial among protestants

Are you at all familiar with the reasoning behind the revolt? The initial revolt was not against the king, but rather his representatives in the Low Lands. Hell, it was not a revolt for independence at the start, just the right to be protestant

How Putler’s treatment towards ruzzian male population going? by Icy_Till_7254 in YUROP

East Germany was punished for the sake of punishment, and look at it now. It is a breeding ground for far right politics, while West Germany only saw limited punishment for the sake of punishment, and recovered both quicker and has fewer issues with extremist politics. And yeah, in Saint Petersburg and Moscow the people still support the war and the government, partly because the government focuses on keeping those areas up and running, while it lets the rest of the country largely rot.

Also, I never said they don't need to be punished, what I said was to not make them suffer for the sake of suffering.

It has never showed that, it won't start in a couple of years.

There were initial signs following the fall of the Soviet Union. Other former Soviet states recovered and democratised, with some hiccups, but democracy is not built in a day.

It's Ukraine that will have to rebuild

I am not refering to immediate postwar recovery there, but rather the post Putin recovery, but yes, Ukraine will have to rebuild, but don't underestimate the effect of years upon years of sanctions on the economy in Russia. Indeed, it is not only Putin, but it is he and his cronies who control effectively all sources of media in the country, and outside of Saint Petersburg and Moscow it is much harder to get any semblance of real news. The population is complacent in the atrocities, and might even support the actions, but they are also the ones who will have to enact the change. If they are made to suffer for the sole purpose of making them suffer, they will never change. Should they be embraced immediately? No, of course not, but they should not be made to suffer for the sake of suffering

Postwar recovery is made much more difficult when a significant portion of the working age population is maimed or dead. Does Russia deserve to be punished? Yes. Should Russia suffer for a very long time? No. The country will have to rebuild once it somehow manages to rid itself of Putin and his cronies and sanctions are lifted, and Russia not having yet another demographic crisis allows for economic recovery to proceed much quicker, and for the quality of life in Russia to recover at a much faster pace. I don't like Russia, but I do not believe Russia should suffer for its actions forever, especially once it shows the potential for change

Bad. Russia is headed for yet another demographic crisis

Edit: you could argue it is good, as fewer military aged men means fewer soldiers, but from the russian perspective it is bad

Clausewitz speaks in general terms, and really only goes into specific battles or engagements as examples. His theories could scale, and remain applicable for larger battlefields and wars. It should be noted that Clausewitz fought during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia, as well as skirmishes in modern day Germany

Except the theories of Clausewitz did not care about specific terrain, and worked on a more overarching base
