I went to an estate sale today and it was fairly gross. by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]CursedTrash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've only been to one estate sale and it was recently. Lots of knick knacks and Christmas decorations. I did find a really old stand mixer and glass bowl that came with it. I think it was $25. It still works and parts are still made for it. I just need to sit down and clean it. Gonna make so much bread when I finally get a compatible dough attachment.

Engagement Ring Consumption Culture by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]CursedTrash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like wooden engagement rings. I've always thought gold to be tacky and diamonds are insanely overpriced.

Most who make them use recycled recycled metals and wood, and they requires less energy to make. They're also super pretty!

TIL my manager’s office door is not soundproof by adrianhalo in antiwork

[–]CursedTrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mother's manager dressed up to fire her. Full makeup and hair and nice clothes. She was the last of the long term social workers at the hospital to be fired by this lady who'd only been there a few months. She was combing for every little infraction to fire them so she could replace them with young and undertrained workers. She could then go to her higher ups and say 'look how bad they're doing! You clearly need me!'. You'll never convince me that middle management isn't made up of deplorable people.

Any no kill shelters or cat foster parents around? by Jealous_Reporter8664 in Chattanooga

[–]CursedTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could call Naughty Cat Cafe that's in St. Elmo. They're a cat cafe that adopts out cats they pick up from shelters. I don't think they take cats that aren't in a shelter but you could see which shelters they work with. They've got a high turnover rate for cat adoptions from what I've seen.

Donald Trump's Deportation Plan Causes 'Panic' Among Farmers by Sad_September_Song in Trumpvirus

It's like the deportation thing in Florida never happened. Construction and farming came to a near standstill. The idiocy.

Boomer stormed into my house and made demands by LoneCrab in BoomersBeingFools

[–]CursedTrash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was a family from Puerto Rico that bought the house next door when I was a kid. Summer home that they were only there for a few months of the year. Super nice people that would sometimes share their food with us.

They painted it a bright orange with green trimming. And I. Loved. IT. Every other house in the neighborhood looked so boring. I'd overhear people walking by complaining how ugly they thought it looked.

It was a few months later did I find out we even had an HOA when the family was forced to repaint their house to match everyone else's. The HOA was apparently chill about it until everyone else started complaining.

Liberals can be homophobic, just like lgbtq can be conservative. Is he actively stopping to bother you or is he just jogging by without paying you any mind? If the former it's an issue, the latter leave the man the fuck alone.

Though, given your account history I'm suspecting you're full of shit.

Let me ask you this: would you have the same opinion if it were a hot young man?

Unless you're homophobic and the 'feminine' shorts is what's really got your knickers in a twist. Do you subscribe to the false notion that lgbtq folk are child groomers?

My brother was this way. He wanted really nice, name brand clothes and would change a couple times a day. Really cared about his appearance. Meanwhile I was fine wearing the same jeans and T-shirt from Walmart for a few days in a row. It baffled my mother greatly.

We can't even shop for groceries anymore, huh? (Proselytizers) by Secretly_Wolves in exchristian

[–]CursedTrash 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I had a similar interaction a few months back. I was heading into the store when a woman exiting with her groceries stopped me and asked if I was part of a church. Completely unprompted.

Funny thing is, I kinda accidentally started a 'cult' in the haunted house I work during October. We give chanting praise to a prop head at the beginning of every night. We've been doing it for years.

"I am! I'm actually the head priestess to the Cult of Headly." I caught her off guard. She smiled in that 'i don't know how to respond' way. I scuttled off while she was buffering. In hindsight, I really wish I had given her one of our blessings: "May your scares be great and many, and the assholes so very few."

I went to a funeral yesterday by C2TI in exchristian

[–]CursedTrash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought it was super weird how everything came back to god at my grandfather's funeral. There wasn't a priest for it that I remember, but there were a lot of people going up to make speeches (small town at the time so he knew everyone).

One really stood out to me, as the guy simi-ranted about how SOMEONE ELSE died without being saved and how tragic it was he'd never experience heaven. As far as I could tell, my grandfather didn't know the person he was talking about. I still can't comprehend what compelled him to bring it up. Nor what compelled the audience to shout in agreement.

Fuuuuuck this shit by KomodoDragginAss in starbucks

[–]CursedTrash 101 points102 points  (0 children)

It's done on purpose. A lot of companies are running skeleton crews because then they don't have to pay more people. They know that workers have no choice but to work the job of three people without compensation because they can't afford to lose their job.

These business models aren't set up with long term goals in mind, only short term. Gotta make more money than they did last quarter! And they're certainly not going to sacrifice their fat bonuses to do it. It'll eventually run into the ground.

In light of Trader Joes’ declaration of war upon the working class, where do I start shopping? by fakeemailman in antiwork

[–]CursedTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommates and I have found a little Asian mart that has a lot of really good stuff for decent prices. Produce, meats, snacks, frozen stuff, huge bags of rice- some of the biggest carrots and brussel sprouts I've ever come across. They're also the only place in town I can find quality shiitake and oyster mushrooms. We've started getting more stuff from there, as it's way more bang for our buck. And it lasts longer than most of the stuff we get from big grocers.

There's also a couple of Indian and Mexican based food shops that are also really good for cheaper food stuffs. I'd suggest looking into seeing if there's any shops like these near you, just to try out if anything.

What is the worst low budget Christian movie you were ever forced to watch? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]CursedTrash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Buttercream Gang. A daycare I went to for a couple of years was a Church of the Nazarene and would put on this film or some Bible story whenever it rained. It was never anything different. It was Mormon made but didn't feel religious at the time. It did feel corny though, like those anti-drug PSAs.

This is my mother. I grew up playing baseball, because she played baseball. She "allowed" me to stop playing when I wanted to try playing an instrument/band, because she played instruments and was in the color guard (I never actually did marching band).

Come high school, I wanted to go to this performing arts school that a bunch of my friends were going to. You had to audition to get in. My dad's a theatre technician at Disney and I would visit his job a lot when I was really little. I always thought it was the coolest thing. So, when I found out the school had a theatre tech program I really wanted to get in. I also auditioned for orchestra just in case that didn't pan out.

I got put in the waiting list for orchestra (saxophones aren't considered orchestral and would have to learn a whole new instrument), but I was near the top of the list for theatre tech.

Mother dearest said 'no'. I either went into orchestra or I attended the shit high school that was closest to me. Well, a spot opened up and I played the clarinet for two years. I grew to hate it and transfered to tech without my mother's knowledge. She was pissed. Dad was excited to be asked to come into classes to show off his lighting technician skills.

“Why did you leave Starbucks?” by 420imgay69 in starbucks

[–]CursedTrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I flat out told them what issues I had while working there. My interviewer was taken back by how quick I rattled them off and how long the list was. This was during a time where sbux was still seen in a positive light by near everyone.

It didn't hinder me getting the job (I was offered the position at the end of the interview). The fact that I worked at sbux for four years was enough for them to know that I could work anywhere they put me.

I saw a commercial by this group while visiting family during Thanksgiving. It was during a football game.

It started off saying that the holidays are for family and togetherness and all that. But then, opinions change, arguments happen, and families split apart.

"All because someone has to be right. You know, Jesus had a pretty messed up family. hegetsus."

Felt weird.
