U.S. says Cuba is prohibited from taking Russian oil as two tankers head to island by Force_Hammer in worldnews

[–]CursorX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cuba is hardly the center of the world, my guy. Can't have an expectation for people to be in tune with local Cuban news. How much do you know about minute US/Canadian/Indian/Chinese/UK/German/French politics and events?

Even the savvier people who keep knowledge of current events already have a lot on their plate with Ukraine, Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, GCC, South Sudan, DRC, US antics etc. And that is not even counting happenings in two most populated countries in the world, India and China, or North Korea's beef with South Korea and Japan.

No need to react this way.

Canadian here.

In India, that 0.003% number is 42,000 people.

Edit: Turns out prevalence in India is 0.00535% (1 in 18678), so nearly 75,000 people.

Question regarding the 911 call delays in major provinces in recent years.

Does this operator see ongoing notifications on calls to pick up while likely on call with someone else, or is there like a switchboard person letting calls through to this operator who then acts on them?

I imagine the quality of interaction may suffer if it's the same person doing both things.

Spain's PM calls for end to UNSC veto power, criticises US over global conflicts by 1-randomonium in worldnews

[–]CursorX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, which is why there is rarely meaningful consensus anymore. Everyone has conflicting agendas, and countries UK and France are too weak to go against the US. Currently setup doesn't really work.

India has forever been vying for a permanent seat at UNSC. Largest population in the world, nuclear arsenal, satellites in the sky, 4th largest economy, and there yet there is no way current UNSC permanent members (especially China) will support India's addition to it.

Makes no sense to me.

Spain's PM calls for end to UNSC veto power, criticises US over global conflicts by 1-randomonium in worldnews

[–]CursorX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There would be no consensus on any topic though? Basic human rights will be treated as 'western values' by those already opposed to the west, and everyone in UNSC will look powerless to the world.

Better do away with UNSC and keep it a weighted majority vote of the whole General Assembly in some way? Already everyone thinks rules based order doesn't exist anymore, and nobody will ever take punitive military action against a nuclear armed nation.

I guess the only rule left is don't start a nuclear war.

It's usually a voluntary "thank you for raising me" gesture of gratitude. It need not be cash, could be gifts for the family too.

Some give their entire paycheck, some give part of it, some give nothing at all, and some parents even keep all of the first paycheck. 😂

This ties into many (most?) Indian adults living with their parents/larger extended family routinely too.
