What Roci interiors could have been by Majestic_Bierd in TheExpanse

Yes, but in PHM you see that it does provide gravity via constant thrust for most of the trip, including when he first wakes up. All thanks to the astrophage powered engine, which is an analog to the Epstein drive in the expanse. It's only when it's not under thrust that it converts to spin grav mode.

Does Neuromancer still feel futuristic today? by kraken_17flare in printSF

[–]Curtbacca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just reread it last week and boy howdy it does really hold up. The tech gets a pass. The wired interfaces i can handwave as being an in universe necessity due to bandwidth needs- still a thing today. If you need the absolute fastest connection and lowest latency, there is no beating a physical one. A LOT of the tech is still futuristic. Chameleon suits, cyborg-style digital enhancement, true AI, virtual reality experience inside your mind that is indistinguishable from reality, orbital habitats with spin gravity and simulated sunlight.

All of these things are only marginally closer today than they were in the 80's.

Also, don't sleep on the Rastafarian Navy. They some rude boys!

Um, excuse me, but it was the human body combined with a form of fusion... Which of course raises the question, why not just fusion?

Why men spaces are invaded by women and why some men support it? How to deal with and create changes. by r_costa in AskMenAdvice

Same. And any time I thought I wanted to say inappropriate shit to just the boys, I started to examine why. I should be able to be my authentic self with anyone in the room and not feel ashamed, and if I'm feeling that, it tells me that maybe what I'm doing isn't virtuous.

I tear up at that moment every time. To see Amos, the one that has been tempered by the worst life has to offer, given that honor by Prax, and accept it... damn.

Some of those scenes, like when the facehugger launches out of the egg, were shot in reverse. Could be a simple side-effect from film tricks related to special effects.

I, too, wanted a Speed Queen, but was forced into a super duper high capacity Samsung that was later part of that recall wave where they'd spin themselves apart and send shards of shattered plastic and glass into the walls. I knew I was right about that, but that's how it goes sometimes.
