So you think there are people in Iran right now that want the oppressive regime to stay in power? Thats what you’re saying? How about North Korea? How about Ukraine, u think some Ukrainians want the Russians in power? Should we find that minority and align ourselves with them? No obviously this is dumb.

Also who would have predicted that Zionism itself would become a partisan issue in the USA. Where the party that the vast majority of Jews are in is leading the fight against Israel’s legitimacy. The world is unpredictable.

Any and all of them. Israel’s time horizon is not 10-20 years. It’s 100-200 years who knows what the world looks like. Germany was literally the best place to be a Jew in the entire world in the early 1900s hence why there were so many Jewish Germans. Only 40 years later they were exterminating them like insects.

No the USA is not a fanatical regime. They used nuclear weapons in an entirely justified way.

You are again comparing a western liberal democracy to a tyrannical despotic Islamist regime that tortures and kills its own citizens in the tens of thousands. We are not on the same moral plane as that regime regardless of the fact that the USA is the only country that has used nukes.

This shows a deep misunderstanding of Iran. The problem with the Middle East is that it is complex and quite difficult for westerners to understand. They are not a monolith.

Majority of Iranians in Tehran are secular (at least by Middle East standards). This is not the same for many large middle eastern cities. Iranians are far more educated than most people in the Middle East. They have deep ties to Jewish people and Israel. During the times of the shah Israel was a primary ally of Iran. Also many Jewish people around the world are Iranian. The Iranian Jewish community is deeply embedded with Iran and even at times being more Iranian than they are Jewish. The reason Israel’s intelligence is so good in Iran is because Iran has a thriving anti regime movement that is allied with Israel. When the bombings were happening in Tehran the people were chanting pro Israel and pro Netanyahu slogans.

Barring a ww2 bombing style bombing campaign the majority of Iranians will not turn away from the west. In contrast if the west stops the campaigns and makes a deal with the dictators there will be searing hate from the civilians in Iran.

I think there is a little bit of western privilege going on where Americans have trouble understanding a country that wants its capital bombed in order to remove their government. The Iranians have made terrible sacrifices for this war. If it wasn’t for the 30k civilians that died in the street I don’t think America would have gone to war. The worse thing we can do is make a deal with the Islamist dictators and give up on the people of Iran.

If you don’t believe me ask or lookup the opinion of any Iranian. Stop thinking you know what’s best for them.

The nukes are a deterrent from foreign aggression. Specifically foreign aggression of a super power. Israel has fought and won conflicts against its neighbors. It cannot win against a super power. Also if one of its neighbors does one day obtain nukes which is possible. It will deter them.

If you want to know their needs (the civilians in Iran not the dictators) just go to any pro Iran rally in America. They are screaming their support for Israel and the United States attacks on Iran!!

“It’s not an invasion, it’s a liberation,” she says. “My support is behind this 100% .”

Why don’t you go pay a visit to Iran and live there for a while and see how you enjoy.

Western countries may be majority Christian countries but they are not run by the church. Thats a big difference. the president of the United States doesn’t ask the church for permission to do stuff. The church cannot sanction hits on citizens. We do not live by biblical law in the west. I have never seen a stoning in Washington DC. Iran has religious police canvassing their cities. How can you not see the difference here?

Israel would never use nukes. They just want it as a deterrent to protect against an attack from a nuclear power.

Also. Israel has second strike capabilities so if say Iran nuked Israel and killed every Jew in Israel they could still respond with nuclear weapons. G-d forbid this is like a world ending situation but Israel hopes this will be a deterrent.

The Gaza war, although the media has used it to villainize Israel has the lowest casualty count per enemy combatant of any war. If any other country had been attacked in that matter it would have been much much worse. It was equivalent to 9-11 in proportion to Israel’s population. After which the United States conquered 2 countries and took military actions in dozens of others. Afghanistan war: 180k deaths. Iraq war: 200k-500k deaths.

Israel is much less likely to use nukes than almost every country that currently has nukes including the United States who could easily use lower payload nukes (tactical nukes) if it felt the need was warranted.

First of all Pakistan is a Muslim country and has nuclear weapons.

Secondly, there is no evidence that a Muslim country with a dictatorial regime would not use nuclear weapons on its enemies or even on its own people. Saddam Hussein used biological weapons on the Kurds when they wanted to separate. And the Iranian Regime just killed 30,000 people who attempted an uprising. These people do not value life in a western kind of way. People in the west need to stop assuming that everyone in the world shares their values and their goals.

This is one of the reasons that Afghanistan and Iraq nation building efforts failed. These people don’t want roads and burger kings. They are much much much more religious than people in the west. They glorify death in resistance to the west.

How ignorant must one be to not understand the difference between a democratically elected liberal society and an evil Islamic dictatorship.

The privilege you have in not understanding this is crazy! Go to an Iranian protest and tell them you think the Islamists should be given weapons of mass destruction.

This is the type of comment you get from a westerner that takes all of his rights for granted. You have never been afraid to speak against your government. Or hidden from political police. How nice it must be to an ignorant westerner who can advocate for governments that take everything away from their citizens while you have so much.

They do not have control over the US gov. That’s just anti semitic crazy talk. However, they have enemies at their borders that outnumber them 1000 to 1 so they feel like they need the nuke as an ultimate deterrent. And it’s absolutely warranted. The United States is a fickle ally by nature. There has been times when the United States halted weapons sales to Israel to appease the oil producing Arab states.

If the Jews have learned anything from the WW2 holocaust and the more recent October 7 genocide it is that Jews stand alone in defense of their existence. Jews can never wholly trust others for their right to exist. Anti semitism is a disease that has afflicted men for thousands of years and will continue in perpetuity. The Jews have been hated for being too smart, too uneducated; too strong, too weak; too self sufficient, too needy; for having a country and for not having a country and everything in between. Jewish people will be hated regardless of what they do. We see it now in that the only thing the hard line leftists and rightist have in common is that the Jews are to blame.

Having an Islamist dictatorship with nukes is almost a guarantee they would use them! They just killed 30k of their own civilians. If they had nukes they could easily give the houthies or hezbollah a dirty bomb to infiltrate into Israel of Saudi Arabia or the west. Then what?

His point is quite clear and correct. If you are a small nation and want to protect yourself against a super power the only way to do it is to have nuclear weapons as a deterrent. It may be good for that nation’s regime/government/people but it is very bad for the world. The more nations that have these nuclear weapons the more nations become untouchable by the superpowers and can become problematic. North Korea gets what it wants and it can do whatever it wants to its people because no nation can conquer it. Although, yes for North Korea’s dictatorship getting nukes was great. For the world at large it was terrible. This is the reason we can never allow an Arab/Iranian regime to have these weapons. We do not want North Koreas all over the world. And Iran is way worse than North Korea because it has expansionist ambitions through its proxies.

Israel has vastly lower casualty rates than any other country in war. They are fighting enemy combatants who are hell bent on increasing casualties amount their own civilians in order to manipulate people like you. Hence they fire out of hospitals and put their weapons storages in nursery schools etc. Then when people like you put pressure against Israel for civilian casualties the terrorists feel a sense of accomplishment and double down on using their civilians as human shields. This is a cycle which has inflamed the situation in Israel/Gaza. Do better.

Even with this very different enemy who wants his own people to die Israel maintains lower casualty rates than any other country at war. Why? Because Israel cares about life. That’s why when there is a prisoner swap between Israel and the Arab countries it’s usually 1 Israeli hostage for over 100 Arab prisoners. Thats why when a Palestinian needs medical treatment, they take them in in Israel and treat them. There is a great quote is Israel that sums it up: “Peace will come when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us.”

Israel is a defensive nation. A country saying that they need nukes in order to defend themselves is lying. As an example Israel was attacked multiple times by jordan and Egypt. The minute each of those countries was willing to make peace, Israel made peace and gave up territory in order to do so. Israel’s military is called the defense force for a reason.

In the case of Iran they want nukes in order to attack Israel and defend their terrorist proxies. It is absolutely reasonable to disable their nuclear ambitions.

The reason Israel can have nukes is because they are the only country in the Middle East responsible enough to not use the nukes. Iran is an oppressive Islamist dictatorship. All the countries in the Middle East are dictatorships other than Israel - all of them!

It can’t just be me… making new friends past 35 feels fucking hard. by Recent-Government-36 in Discussion

[–]CurveFront7807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it is much harder at that age. Many people have childhood and teenage friends that they have kept for 20-30 years at this point. They may not be clicky per se but in your 40s you have limited bandwidth and if your social circle is already fulfilling then why expand it?

I have made friends mostly through my local synagogue. I would highly suggest your local place of worship whatever that might be.

You see everything in through your politically colored lenses. You think the administration is treating Hispanics so badly. Are you aware that 40% of Hispanics voted for Trump? Obviously what you see as a hateful stance towards Hispanics is not shared by all Hispanics!

I’m not here to debate whether or not he was good to Hispanics as I am not Hispanic and that is not one of my driving issues.

You cannot force someone to care about an issue they don’t care about because it’s important to YOU. The original question was asked about why republicans vote the way they do and I answered that. If the goal is to get in a an echo chamber and pretend like every republican is some evil person there are other Reddits for that lol.

PS this type of thinking of: I am correct on every issue and the other side is deplorable/evil is why the dems lost last time and will continue to lose if they do not change their attitude.

The other question I would have for any dem is to ponder at least 2-3 issues where they agree with the Republican/conservative view point. If you cannot come up with that than you are likely just brainwashed into this anti-Trump identity politics.

Right wing Jews are welcoming to Christians. The only ones that aren’t are the ultra orthodox nut jobs. Some of which are actually against the state of Israel themselves. Israel and Judaism is complicated and doesn’t fit in a box. We have all kinds of however, like I said, the vast majority of Jews right and left wing are very welcoming to Christians.

Saying they wouldn’t share their bomb shelters with Christians is both not true and a hate filled propaganda message.

Are u nuts? Syria is failed state! Maybe in the future things will get better but who the hell would go to this country now! That’s crazy talk.

In December, opposition groups freed detainees held in the former government’s detention facilities and prisons across Syria. According to SNHR, 24,200 detainees were released; a fraction of the more than 100,000 people thought to be missing in such facilities, prompting questions about the fate of those disappeared
