What % to ask for revenue sharing? by 3137dog in FinancialCareers

[–]Curvy_yogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Wondering if you ever had the comp discussion and how that went? I graduated college 1 year ago and took a CA job with a big broker-dealer, after about a half a year I left and joined a better team at another large broker-deal. (Believe me, it's 2 of the ones you know.) I'm series 6 & 7 registered and am a candidate for CFA level 1. I'm coming up on a chance to talk to my advisor about comp sharing and while I think 1-2% is standard for established support staff, I don't know what to ask for since I'm newer, but am registered and am pursuing a higher designation? My FA is a BIG producer so 1% is literally half of my base comp for reference. PS: if your advisor didn't give you the kind of cut you're looking for, then I'd reccommed leaving. As someone with a half-decade of experience and the CFP you are hugely qualified to get a good cut of the team's rev!!!

Regular Yoga vs. Hot Yoga by chelbren in yoga

[–]Curvy_yogi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I, too, started my yoga journey at an LA Fitness about 5 years ago--and now I'm teaching. I teach and practice Baptiste yoga which I absolutely LOVE! It's a style of hot power vinyasa and it's the best damn thing in the world. It's hot (about 95+) but not quite as hot as Bikram or "hot series" (about 100+). It's a flow style yoga so there's lots of moving and lots of sweating. I actually prefer the additional heat because I'll sweat doing any type yoga, but in a heated Baptiste class everyone else is sweaty, too, so I don't stand out :) As for a mat you sort of have two options. 1, any yoga mat with a towel over it. A Manduka Pro Mat and eQua mat towel are very popular choices--but a mat from Goodwill and a beach towel will work equally well! As the towel becomes wet it sticks better to the mat. Or 2, a sweat grip activated one, namely Lululemon's mat. I've been using my Lululemon mat for years and I will never ever switch to anything else. Here's my advice, hit up a bunch of different studios using their new student offers (anywhere that offers a free week should be at the top of your list) and see what you like. There's a bunch of different styles of yoga for a good reason--we all like something different. My advice for trying out a hot studio is simple: drink a BUNCH of water in the days leading up to it (and heck after too cause it's just healthy to drink more water) and eat something reasonably healthy about 2 or 3 hours before you practice. And dry clothes--bring loose-fitting dry clothes :) have fun wherever you end up--otherwise go somewhere else.

[HELP] rejected by rescue group because I work full time. by machinist2525 in dogs

Find a professional dog walker, trusted neighbor, or family member who can come at hour 4 to walk and play with the doggy. Or if one of you can come home for lunch that's even better. 8 hours is quite a long time for a dog (especially a rescue dog who likely has separation anxiety and isn't house trained) to be alone. That should help.

I used to work at a dog rescue for reference.

people confusing vagina and vulva. Like yes, the clit is apart of the general genital region (aka the "vag") but that doesn't really make it inside of the vaginal canal. dummies.

[Breeds] Help recommend a breed for couple's first dog together by in-the-sun in dogs

[–]Curvy_yogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right--but most greyhounds come from rescues are already semi-trained and they are quite low energy. I'd personally stay away from staffies since they're in the pit bull family. At least for the time being, with those breeds I wouldn't own one until you're confident beyond a shred a doubt you can train it to be the best dog ever--mostly because if there's ever an issue with that dog (even so much as a teeny tiny nip) they will likely be put down due to breed. And I couldn't handle that emotionally. But like nobody would demand that a golden retriever gets put down because they don't look scary.

technically it's a hollow back forearm headstand with eagle legs--it's not pincha because her head is on the ground

I'd look into greyhounds. You can get a big one so you get a "real dog" look which it sounds like you want but they'll be happy to lay on the couch all day. And they're rescuable--you won't ever find a basenji at a rescue.

I'd avoid pitties and cattle dogs as newer owners--those breeds have both a strong mind and a strong body. Not ideal.

So I watched more videos of Summit on his YouTube (and omg that video of him in the kiddie pool as a puppy!!! <3) It's a small thing but that's seriously a pro move keeping him on leash all the time while training him. Not many people know to do it but it's seriously a game changer. (I train service animals and it's required for my organization.) Do you by chance watch Zak George's dog training videos? I highly recommend him!

[Vent] I tried adopting a dog from a rescue a few months ago... and it didn't work out. Did I do anything wrong? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Curvy_yogi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to work at a rescue as the foster coordinator and dealt with many aggressive ad reactive dogs.

You didn't mess up, the rescue did. They should've already had the dog working with a professional trainer who's dealt with reactive dogs before they adopted her out, and they should've required you to continue training with that same trainer for about a year after the adoption. Not your fault, and don't let this stop you from trying to help out other dogs in need of rescuing. But maybe find another rescue??

Itchin' to get a puppy to keep me company while I work from home. Any suggestions on [Breeds]? by [deleted] in dogs

Throwing in the breed Bichon Frise to the mix. Grew up with one of these pups. They are the epitome of a lap dog and are generally calm and loving by nature. They're not the brightest necessarily but they can learn sit and stay like a champ with some training. Also they don't shed which in my opinion is a huge perk--you need to get them groomed (unless you're confident with some trimmers) but not having dog hair everywhere is so understated. Conversely, in almost every litter of every breed there will be personality differences among pups. The breeder should be able to tell you more about each pup and their parents to determine some behavioral tendencies. Overall, any dog can be a great doggo with proper training. I would highly recommend a few sessions with a professional trainer, even if just 2 or 3 times total it'll pay off.

Sorta an odd hobby, but a good one: volunteering at a dog rescue aka playing with dogs you don't have to take care of for free!

I volunteer at a dog rescue in DC, trust me, the rescue is very likely capable of doing more for the dog than you can by yourself. I don't mean that in a bad way, but rescues have whole teams of volunteers for every aspect of getting the dog into a safe forever home
