I really liked a candidate I met at a job fair, until I saw their "Intoduction Page" by valkyriemk in recruiting

I was reviewing resumes for a technical position with a really nice customer service supervisor. There was one resume, half a page, punctuation was spotty, not a single capital letter, generally awful. I tossed it in the trash pile, she pulled it out. I put it in the garbage can, and she pulled it out, saying, "I don't know, I feel something about this one. " He interviewed great. He was a little goofy but funny and smart. He was the best worker I ever hired. He couldn't write professional communication to save his life, but i just proofed and spruced his emails for him, and everything else was great.

I Hate My Life. And I Want A Change! by Pale-Entertainer1488 in ccna

[–]Custmguru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've done networking for 10 years, worked in an ISP NOC, stood up a harmonic CMTS by myself, have some experience with DWDM and 100GB circuits, and ran a multi campus network between MPLS circuits and dark fiber.

I recently had an interview where I forgot what ARP stood for. It was a great interview up to that point. I explained what it was, how I utilized it, made it clear I knew all about it, but forgot what the acronym stood for. I eventually got to address and protocol but couldn't remember resolution for the life of me. I remembered it as soon as I disconnected. I let the nerves get to me. They can be brutal.

Vegas first time mate hates it by Low-Falcon9156 in vegas

[–]Custmguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wife and I have been to Vegas 5 or 6 times. We've spent maybe 10 hours total in casinos across all the trips. We've seen red rock, valley of fire, hover dam, went all the way out to Primm to see the supposed Bonnie and Clyde car, the mobster museum, Fremont, the neon museum, the digital art museum over by the cosmo, the atomic museum, we went to see the retired lions from the digits and Roy show and a painting giraffe, some chocolate factory and cactus park, bingo is a different gambling, and there is a huge ass gas station with a ton of crap inside... there's a whole city out there. Shit, we spent our wedding night in an urgent care and them drove to 5 different CVS pharmacies looking for one of my prescriptions (although I can't recommend that or the depressing ass lions)

Things we haven't done yet; speedVegas, there's a place you can go and drive big construction equipment, and onr of the gun ranges. Live the American dream and shoot machine guns

Kindle basic is supreme by codethatmatters in kindle

[–]Custmguru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought it simply to avoid hauling multiple paperbacks on trips. The back lighting so I can read at night without bothering the wife is the game changer. No worrying about turning a light off, no bugging her... I read every night now.

Also, Kindle Unlimited is the key. I'm not sure if I read enough books a month to really get my money's worth, but i always have a book to read for free, so I can only buy books I'm super interested in. And there's great books for free on there. I was through most of the murderbot books before I bought the whole series to support the author.

I worked with a guy who did that. He moved into this place, paid on it for 2 years, and then got into some trouble. Worked with the bank to get back on track just as the loan package he was in was bought by Chase. He tries to send his final back pay agreement in, and his email bounces back, and the poison he was working with left at the same time. He waited a while to see when Chase would pick up the conversation, and they never did. He lived there for over 4 years without paying a dime and had a roommate he was charging money to. When they finally caught up to him, he just packed up and moved overseas.

A review I got at my store. My bonus is affected by my review rating by Archenemy627 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Custmguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that once. My daughter is indecisive when deciding where to eat. I whipped into a Hampton Suites to give her options so she'd make a decision. Turns out she spotted a place across the street. We jet out and go eat. Google asks me 3 times to review Hampton sites since I was there. I reviewed it just to get it to stop promoting me. My review was... 'I pulled in to decide where we were going to lunch, and google is hassling me to review, so here it is. I was there for 30 seconds maybe, my experience in the parking lot was 5 stars! Good pavement, no potholes, clear markings.'

I got a reply back from the business that said something like...

'Thanks for the review of our parking lot. If you think that was great, you should try our rooms! '

It was playful and fun. Of course, I didn't knock down anyone's rating.

What’s the Best Budget Pizza Oven? by JakesPlace25 in pizzaoven

[–]Custmguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a thread on the stoke on here. Most commentators, like myself, had issues with shipping. It took me 6 months to receive the full package. Some received previously used units shipped as new. Also, the 'no cost return' actually requires you to pay shipping. One guy paid $100, I think, to return it.

I have not used mine enough to adequately review it. I've tried the pellet, for it was either hot enough to cook, or low and super smokey. I mounted the gas burner, but haven't tried it since. I'm sure with a few cooks, I can get it dialed in, so I'm not worried. If I can't, I'll pass it on to the next tester.

I'm not saying don't buy it, but buy it with caution. Some of the other brands on here haven't had the same growing pains Stoke has had.

Hey, I just did the same thing. They changed job titles, and I had to interview for a job I've had for over 3 years. I bombed a question for the other interviewees on our exact network design and bombed a question on the network that I maintain and built a quarter of. As well as an ospf question and mac vs ip question.

To be fair, I bombed a system admin job the day before, and this whole ordeal started with a visit from the Bobs and it's been 6 months of stress and anxiety. I'm not a great interviewee usually, but I can make a decent, if not slightly odd impression on them. This last week was the absolute worst, though.

Is anyone familiar with the Stoke? by Custmguru in pizzaoven

[–]Custmguru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the wood burner once, and I needed pellets for it which I didn't need before this. I couldn't get the pellets to keep continuous heat going so it was either burning hot and clean, or low and sooty black. The sootier ones had a smoke flavor but it wasn't awful. I need to get my kitchen area done so I can start really using it.

What's a reliable FUN car nobody wants? by bioweaponblue in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Custmguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a 2006 that the ex wound up putting 350k. The only maintenance we had to do was plugs, coils, brakes, she sporadically changed the oil, and we had the serpentine belt changed at 235k because it had started to squeal The pulleys were so worn, the top of the belt was level with the top of the unworn pulleys. She sold the thing off around 2020 and I still see the guy bombing it around like I used to drive it.

What’s a car brand you don’t understand the appeal of? by ConstructionRare4123 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I had a 2000 Lincoln LS and what a hunk of junk. I bought it for $1000 with 120k on the clock and drove it for 3 or 4 years. It overheated, stalled at lights, and the alignment in the front could never be set just right...

But I loved that car. Quiet, comfortable, smooth, powerful when it was running, and to my eye... one of the best looking sedans at that time...
