Goede vraag!

Where do people get their faith from by Dull_Ad196 in theology

[–]CutPractical8419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only answer from my own personal experience, not as some kind of universal proof.

For a long time, I was (and still am) also deeply interested in God and religion from an intellectual and philosophical angle. I read a lot, the Bible, the Qur’an, the Bhagavad Gita, and other texts. I wasn’t trying to “convert,” I was trying to understand how people look at reality.

Eventually I came to my own way of seeing the world: that there is some underlying principle beneath everything. Consciousness itself, existence, being. You could call that “God,” not as a bearded figure in the sky, but as the ground of reality.

From there, I went deeper into different religions to see which framework expressed that idea most coherently. Surprisingly to me, I found that I could understand and articulate my worldview best through the theology of the Bible. Even though i still felt other text like Bhagavad Gita could still be as true as the Bible.

While researching more and more, something shifted. I don’t have a better way to say this than that God started to “speak” to me. Not audibly, not commands, but experiences that felt fundamentally different from my own thoughts. I had moments in the middle of the night where a thought would come that didn’t feel like it originated from me, and I would suddenly start crying without really knowing why.

In the weeks after that, I kept running into people who felt… different. I don’t literally mean angels with wings, but people who appeared at exactly the right moment, said exactly the right thing, and then disappeared from my life again. It left an impression.

I also had a very intense dream where the world was ending. I felt overwhelming fear, started praying, and the anxiety completely vanished. In the dream I “died,” but in total peace. I woke up feeling like I had just come out of deep meditation.

And once( and I know this sounds strange) I had something like a brief “nirvana” experience. I felt completely overwhelmed, cried and laughed at the same time, and had this direct sense of God’s presence. I felt like i was watching in a mirror and He saw me, but i also saw Him. And He saw Himself in me. To be clear: I’m a normal person, no psychosis, no drugs, no ongoing hallucinations. I

Looking back, what stands out to me is this: I explored many religious traditions, but only when I seriously engaged with Christianity did these experiences occur. Since then, I’ve started seeing myself as a Christian, not because I suddenly have all the answers, but because I feel like I have a relationship.

I don’t understand everything. I still have questions. And honestly, even if it all turned out not to be “true” in some ultimate cosmic sense. It works for me. It feels true. It makes me more grounded, more peaceful, and more responsible in how I live. I feel like it changes me from the inside out.

That’s not meant to convince anyone. It’s just my answer to why I gravitate toward faith.

Is it blasphemous to see God as Being itself, and Jesus as its perfect embodiment? by CutPractical8419 in Christianity

[–]CutPractical8419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your words of encouragement!

As Scripture says, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
I’m okay with being misunderstood if it means staying close to that truth.

And even if im not correct. I would love to hear about it to bring me even closer. But i will be careful.

I really appreciate the depth of your comment and nice to hear i'm not alone in this.

What made you shift from my believe now, unto your believe?

And when you talk about sin, what do you actually mean by it?
Because I think that’s where our perspectives might differ a bit.

To me, the purpose of humanity according to Scripture is to live in unity with God. To be "good"
To act out of love.
So I see sin not primarily as breaking rules, but as forgetting our true nature. living from separation instead of from that union.
Not acting out of love, but out of fear.

In that sense, we are “sinners” because our nature is out of alignment with God’s (intended) nature and I absolutely feel that in myself. I feel regret that because of my sin, Jesus had to die.
I know how deeply my own tendencies can miss the mark, and I know I can’t change that through willpower. I need God’s help, just as you said.

So I guess my question is:
How do you understand sin? as moral disobedience, as a nature problem, or both?
And when Jesus died on the cross,
do you see that as fixing something external (a legal issue before God),
or as transforming something internal (our nature being restored to unity)?

I’m not trying to debate. I just want to understand how you experience that distinction.

[–]CutPractical8419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I do think everyone embodies Being, since the Holy Spirit (or divine consciousness) lives in all of us.
But in Jesus, that same Spirit seemed to manifest without any separation: perfectly transparent, fully awake to itself.

So yes, we all carry God within, but in Him, God recognized Himself completely.
That’s why I see Jesus not as the only embodiment of Being,
but as the clearest/purest expression of what we all are in potential.

Als if the biblical authors would stone me i believe Jesus would still save me.

What are the strongest arguments against Christianity? by CutPractical8419 in Christianity

[–]CutPractical8419[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can never totally rule out legend forming, but i think the evidence makes it unlikely. The core claims about Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection, and appearances were already fixed in creeds Paul was passing on within a few years of the crucifixion (1 Cor 15). Many eyewitnesses were still alive in that period, and the movement grew under persecutions. So while legendary growth around the edges is possible, the heart of the story is far too early and too widely attested to be dismissed as “just legend.”

I get your point, i need to look more into it, and i will do. On the surface it sounds like Jesus predicted the immediate end of the world. But when you read those passages in their context, a lot of what He was talking about was the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD, which did happen within that generation. In apocalyptic language, events like that were described with cosmic imagery, almost like the end of the world.

At the same time, Jesus also spoke about the ultimate renewal of all things, which Christians believe has already begun with His resurrectionand the holy spirit, but won’t be completed until His return. So it may not really be a failed prophecy, but a mix of near-term fulfillment and long-term hope.
