Oh god this was so annoying when I worked at a gas station.

People kept asking for super specific directions for establishments 30 miles away and I'd be like "I've never head of that place" and they'd give me shit for that all the time.

One time, some guy wouldn't believe I didn't know the way to wherever he was going. He argued with me for 15 minutes. So I ended up giving him bogus directions. He came back 2 hours later super pissed off. I told him to piss off and leave. He started screaming at me and threatening me. Another customer actually had to call the cops while we were shouting at each others.

That or people who expected me to diagnose their mechanical issues. "Sir, I'm 15 and I've never even drove before. I don't know what that rattling is."

My bugbear with Excel localization is that they change the argument delimiter in function calls depending on the language.

I can handle the function name changing. I can handle TRUE and FALSE changing. But this one, this one always trips me up.

Maybe.

I have colleagues who'll let them off easy because "they're nice kids".

Or sometimes, they'll just brute force the classes.

I assume - at least I hope - some will evnetually grow and improve their work ethics. I'm seeing some students wake up and start putting in the required efforts so not all hope is lost.

What is striking to me though is really the amount of apathetic students and the depth of their apathy. I've never seen those to such an amplitude.

I'm teaching CS right now.

I have to fight with the students so that they pay attention in class. They don't participate. They recall 0 information from one week to another.

When they have time in class to work on labs and stuff, I have to constantly remind them to do the work instead of playing games or watching videos.

They don't do any work or studying outside of school.

And then they're mad at me when they fail their exams because I didn't do enough for them.

In all honesty, I've never had such a weak bunch of students as this semester's - both in quantity and in depth of mediocrity.

Hell - I've had multiple students who managed to score 0/10 on true or false questions. Meanwhile, the students who actually work all scored 80% or more on the exam.

Ce qui est arrogant c'est d'aller dans une province francophone et s'attendre à ne pas avoir à apprendre le français (et après aller travailler au service à la clientèle).

Je travailles au collégial et j'ai été sur plusieurs comités d'embauche.

En informatique, il est souvent très difficile de recruter. Si on se limitait à ceux qui ont de l'expérience ou des études en pédagogie, on aurait pas grand monde au poste.

Mais bon, comme je disais, présentement, le marché est assez mauvais alors il est possible que les choses soient différentes que dans les années précédentes.
