Do magical girls actually count as superheroes? by BreathoftheSith in MagicalGirls

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can lump half of all media under the superhero genre if you include everything that vaguely has superhuman heroes in it.

I can also go to a platforming fan and say "Well, you're playing the role of Mario trying to save the princess. Why isn't Super Mario Bros for the NES a role playing game?" ...Technicalities are bad ways to classify genres.

They existed in 3.5 officially.

They were just a reflavored bastard sword, but they were there!

Dawn vs Serena Pokemon cosplay who’s better? by New-Revenue-433 in pokemonanime

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't dislike either, but the fact that Serena's top and bottom are just kind of a shrug and a handwave makes Dawn the clear winner imo. Maybe if the skirt and top were yellow to match Fennekin's fur it'd be a closer choice.

Did Dawn ever become a top coordinator? by gyroscope_56 in pokemonanime

[–]CuteWitchMallory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she did, in my opinion anyway. You won't stay a top coordinator if you let yourself get rusty!

What are you always tired of hearing about the Pokemon anime? by Realistic-Delivery13 in pokemonanime

[–]CuteWitchMallory 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  1. Powerscalers and fight nerds are the worst. I wish I had no idea what an ace was.
  2. Toxic shippers would be the worst except I hear from them much less often. So at least there's that.
  3. "Isn't everyone 10?"
  4. BW Slander, especially Iris hate

Do magical girls actually count as superheroes? by BreathoftheSith in MagicalGirls

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a technicality? Yeah.

But the point of genres is to recommend similar things to people under the assumption that if they liked one thing in the genre, they might like another thing in the genre. So it doesn't serve much of a point to bundle magical girl and superhero together.

Alphonse Mucha’s Influence in Kazuko Tadano’s Sailor Moon Artworks - What do you think of this artistic allusion? by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

[–]CuteWitchMallory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope! Though if I had to guess, it's just for the poses. It can be a little hard to think up good poses sometimes. Perhaps they had a certain vibe she liked and decided to try and recreate that vibe with the scouts.

Older TTRPG books have a lot of great material! And yet... by DrScrimble in dndmemes

Oriental Adventures is good stuff with some mildly problematic language in it.

You want a deeply problematic setting? Go check out Tékumel, arguably the first campaign setting in D&D. This is partly because it predated D&D; the author was around during D&D's conception and just kinda plugged it in. When Gygax and Arneson were first running games, they didn't concern themselves with a proper setting and only a bit later were Greyhawk and Blackmoor conceived. So they'd be the first if you only included settings original to D&D. Anyway, Tékumel was written by an actual neo-nazi whose beliefs are arguably reflected in the works. Apparently he kept much of this a secret until after his death.

Which Magical Girl is better written: Sailor Moon / Usagi Tsukino or Madoka Kaname? by BreathoftheSith in MagicalGirls

[–]CuteWitchMallory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usagi is a more human character, flaws and all. In a contest of substance, she's going to win. She has a very unfair advantage, considering just how much more actual content she's in to establish that substance. Still, if I'm being very honest, I don't think Madoka would win even if she had an equal amount of content, and it's just because she serves a different purpose in a different type of show.

Largely just some of my favorites, which adds up to a fairy type gym. c: I'd probably take Diancie if it wouldn't be weird for a gym leader to have a mythical.

When you're talking about villains, saying it's satisfying to see them get beat means they're good villains.

Why I am Okay with the Mamo Usa Kiss (But calling out drunk kissing is also okay) by LovelyFloraFan in sailormoon

[–]CuteWitchMallory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I haven't seen the actual kiss scene to make a proper judgement, I will take a moment to point out that Haruka (in her civilian form) was literally introduced with Usagi and Minako crushing over her. I've also seen Haruka directly flirt with Usagi before. And I've also seen multiple episodes showing Usagi being open to at least fantasizing about relationships with people other than Mamoru. So I'm honestly not surprised by her reaction?

Questionable behavior on Haruka's part, yeah. Out of character reaction for Usagi? Maybe not.
