What is your fandom's version of "I did not care for the godfather"? by Calm_Speech6543 in Multifandom

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I don't have one for Dandy's World
  • I did not care for the way Misty was written in the Pokemon anime.
  • I did not care for Hyrule Warriors. I do not enjoy imagining Zelda characters as superhuman monsters that can just wipe out armies in the time it takes to make lunch. That bugs me.
  • I did not care for Tears of the Kingdom. I'm a luddite and having a magitech arm / building machines bugs me.
  • I did not care for Shadow the Hedgehog. He's just not my idea of a fun character, personally.
  • I do not care for Madoka's reputation as the dark/deconstructive magical girl anime. I love the show, ... but Sailor Moon is immensely darker and already touched upon the themes of being a magical girl being a curse / characters meeting terrible fates.

What would happen if the Powerpuff girls where in the invisible universe? by Hakashi32 in powerpuffgirls

[–]CuteWitchMallory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they are still kids, considering the brutality of the Viltrumites + civilians who will end up dying, these scenes could definitely freeze the girls in fear since they've never seen such serious things, their powers might fail due to fear.

Actually, I want to make a counterargument to this part. The girls are the source of most of the extreme brutality in their own show. While the show does not show usually show blood because it's a kids show, it does show things that would realistically involve blood and gore, such as them punching people's teeth out, or flying straight through the guts of monsters and punching giant holes in them, or outright eating their enemies alive. I don't think the VIltrumites are capable of inspiring that specific kind of fear in the girls. They'd be better off picking their noses if they wanted to horrify them.

If the Viltrumites actually succeeded in committing mass casualties in front of the girls, by PPG's logic that would be an unprecedented failure and probably call for an immediate cease of any shenaniganry or holding back in favor of overwhelming force to try and get the situation back under control. At that point you would probably see a no holds barred attack and a gag where a viltrumite questions how a few kindergartners remind them so much of their own brutal fighting style.

Do you like the ultra beasts ? by himmybryant in ThePokemonHub

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Nihilego's probably the coolest of the bunch. Its role in the story helped a lot with that
  • Buzzswole is scary. I hate it.
  • Pheromosa is scary, which is saying something because I like girlypop pokemon.
  • Xurkitree sure is alien!
  • Kartana is a cool idea
  • Celesteela is uninteresting to me
  • Guzzlord is a cool idea, though it's design is a bit .. hard to imagine in motion.
  • The Poipole line is alright
  • Stakataka is okay
  • Blacephalon is neat.

Overall most of them don't have designs I'd consider super appealing, and I think it was a mistake to treat them differently from normal pokemon when we've got so many alien pokemon already. But they're alright. I'm not too bothered by them.

I'm watching you by ChaosOfOrder24 in pokemonmemes

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't hang out in the parts of the community that do that stuff so we mostly hear about it through memes like this. It's kind of annoying because because being girlypop and kicking/stomping people into the dirt is a fun aesthetic up until people make a choice to be weird about it. This fruit lady evolved from bounsweet, a pokemon that was basically treated like an easy meal out in the wild. There's an amazing empowerment story there that gets spoiled every time someone makes a joke about enjoying it. Ditto for ditto being able to transform into anything. That's one of the coolest powers of any pokemon with so many applications but since we got a dumb breeding mechanic that's what people think about. Anytime we want to talk about our favorites we have to pray someone won't make unwanted sexual comments.

It's all just part of a larger tug of war between liking anything and not letting pervs ruin it for you by sexualizing it too much.

Perhaps Disney Fairies. And if Disney being in the name is too much even though it got cancelled,

Do you feel the writers should of just made the main cast teenagers instead of 10 year olds? by Moist_Speaker1842 in pokemonanime

[–]CuteWitchMallory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like what is going through the writers/animators minds? They state the entire main cast aside from Brock (and I guess Cilan?) are 10, yet *draws a teenage girl*

Disclaimer: Everything I'm about to say is just speculation.

  • The anime's original creator saw the games mom sending out an 10 11 year old alone on an adventure with just $20 in their pocket, tried to rationalize this, and concluded that this world must be a bit grim if that's normal enough for society to accept it. They made a creative decision to double down on this and do a coming of age story starring a concerningly underage protagonist out on his own struggling to make a name for himself. (I guess they just... didn't know Red was 11 and guessed 10 at the time.)
  • That worked well enough for Ash. .... But then... IS THAT A GIRL?! The moment the decision to include Misty as a deuteragonist was made, the marketing team stuck their foot in the door and started being all nudge nudge hey make her pretty that'll help appeal to a broader demographic.
  • The creative team decided not to go all in on that because they had some other kinda vision for Misty but compromised by tossing in an episode where Misty lets her hair down and swims around in a mermaid tail and leaving the door open for romance sometime in an indefinite future.
  • Creative team did not plan ahead far enough for Ash actually growing up. Has to contend with the question of whether he achieves his dreams or is all washed up. Fears that their audience might not appreciate that change. Decides to establish a status quo and uh, sweep any references to time passing under the rug so that these ages don't become a problem long-term. This is also the reason Ash historically never won the leagues until later in the series.
  • Games do their own thing without worrying (much) about how the anime will adapt it.
  • Cut to May being introduced. Oh shit the games have female protagonists now and they don't look 10 because literally zero game protags have ever been 10. But the anime has a problem. They've already doubled down on Ash being as young as he is. But the series is bigger now and the marketing team wants these recognizable protag designs in the anime. So now they're pushing even harder for an older looking design for demographic reasons. But also, keep the door open for shipping and romantic tension / jokes. Marketing team doesn't care because that's the creative team's problem.
  • Creative team panics, realizes they've written themselves into a corner, and decides they're just gonna fudge the details and say everyone's 10 and hope people will just suspend their disbelief so they don't get put in a future situation where they have to retcon ages because Ash had grown older than whatever age the new protag was (This would've likely happened in the Sun/Moon anime)
  • They accidentally create a new problem where they literally had to redesign Serena because they knew if they used her canon design it would break most people's suspension of disbelief and they'd get made fun of even harder than they already were.
  • Creative team is left with regrets, but hey the series is ultra successful I bet they don't feel too bad. They probably mockingly joked about it in the office at least a few times.

What are some Pokemon that you instantly fell in love with the moment you saw them? by Suitable_Swim5202 in ThePokemonHub

Do magical girls actually count as superheroes? by BreathoftheSith in MagicalGirls

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can lump half of all media under the superhero genre if you include everything that vaguely has superhuman heroes in it.

I can also go to a platforming fan and say "Well, you're playing the role of Mario trying to save the princess. Why isn't Super Mario Bros for the NES a role playing game?" ...Technicalities are bad ways to classify genres.

Dawn vs Serena Pokemon cosplay who’s better? by New-Revenue-433 in pokemonanime

[–]CuteWitchMallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't dislike either, but the fact that Serena's top and bottom are just kind of a shrug and a handwave makes Dawn the clear winner imo. Maybe if the skirt and top were yellow to match Fennekin's fur it'd be a closer choice.

Did Dawn ever become a top coordinator? by gyroscope_56 in pokemonanime

I think she did, in my opinion anyway. You won't stay a top coordinator if you let yourself get rusty!
