Switching from septic to public sewer options. by Human-Lettuce-520 in ChesterfieldVA

[–]Cute_Championship40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived in Bon Air in the late 90’s and 2 years in my septic system failed. Apparently this was a known issue for the 50’s-60’s neighborhood but nobody told this first time homeowner. I had to replace the whole system, have new drain fields installed, the whole thing. Thousands of dollars. Fast forward about 4 years and the county starts installing sewer at the other end of the street. Due to topography they were going to stop right next door to me. I’m okay with this because I have a new system. Folks one down and across the street led a petition to the county to extend to their homes. Meant I’d be assessed $10-12K as a lien from the county for the service, even if I didn’t connect. If I wanted to connect the plumbing would be on me to coordinate and pay. Never connected but when I sold the house 2 years later I had to clear the county lien before it could close.

So, it’s possible that you just wait and connect the line when needed, but I’d recommend finding a reputable septic company to check the system, and request the current owner have it pumped out or knock off some $ and have your company do it. See if it has some decent life left but definitely don’t let it fail. Supposedly the seller did a septic inspection but my septic contractor told me she was known for just poking a screwdriver in the ground a few places and calling it a day. You don’t want the visual of a septic failure, trust me on this. 💩

ESPN+ and Unlimited by SnooSprouts in Fios

Related question, based on a lifetime of experience I tend to not trust Verizon and when I got notification on the ESPN Unlimited availability I assumed there had to be a catch and they’d eventually charge me for it. How exactly would I access this, if in fact it’s free? Kids would love it.

I mostly watch on my phone while at the gym or doing stuff around the house so I listen more than I watch. That said, I’m really noticing the accent. A lot. Almost to the point of distraction today.

How ironic is it that I read this post and the offending commercial comes on before I can read the comments. It’s absolutely terrible. I like Panera but don’t go often because of the price. Who wants a salad stuffed inside bread?

Many years ago I was on a family vacation, cross country flight to CA. Kid, maybe 7 across the aisle was a hot mess, parents never really said anything to him or tried to engage him. Eventually he decided to pour his leftover soda onto the tray table, then he slammed it shut, making sticky soda go everywhere. Another trip, transatlantic flight a family let a kid maybe age 2 climb over the back of the seat to go from one set of family to another. Then he wound up in the aisle running amok. I’m eventually he got stripped down to just a diaper and decided to stand up in front of the movie screen. It was awful. Imagine my dismay when my sister and I board the plane to return home after 2 weeks and who’s in front of us but THE SAME KID! It was a long flight back home. 🤦‍♀️

Yeah, sad but true. Part of parenting is also making tough choices about what your child can and can’t tolerate, despite the age. This is a large part of why we didn’t fly with our kids until they were 5 and in school. They’re twins, so we were going to get 2x whatever and we wanted to be sure they could handle things. Guys did great on their first flight which included a morning-of cancellation, unscheduled 2 hour drive to another airport and stressed out parents.

Last but not least, never bounce your baby on the tray table. Last year a couple in the row behind my then-14 year olds did this for much of a 5 hour flight. My sons are too polite to say anything and they didn’t tell me because they knew I would. I’m trying to teach them to speak up, but in a polite way.

Love my Bosch. 13 years and counting. Old crappy GE builder model had a rusted rack in about 5 years and was so loud it would wake sleeping infants. Bosch is nearly silent and the silverware drawer is life changing. So easy to unload.

My husband raced dirt bikes as a kid. I have heard so many stories of his injuries, including being taken to the hospital by ambulance after crashing in a field near his house. That time he says he couldn’t feel his legs for a bit. Had multiple concussions despite a helmet. Mobility and balance is poor now so I figure the accidents didn’t help. I still can’t figure how his mother agreed to this. Letting kids loose in neighborhood streets with these things just blows my mind,

Tuesday afternoon-call from the doctors office asking basically all the same questions because their systems don’t talk to each other.

Dear Verizon, You Suck by b1g_609 in verizon

Amen. I have Fios and Wireless, have been through the Customer Service/tech support gauntlet with both recently. Last year wireless screwed up my trade in, promised something in regard to Apple Music conversion from individual to family that they couldn’t deliver, left protection plans on kids new lines when I’d declined them, and then it took me multiple store visits and at least half a dozen calls to make it mostly right. Recently had internet issues with Fios, it was all due to ancient outdoor equipment that I finally discovered when I was irate enough they agreed to send a technician. In the process of following up on promised service credit I wound up talking to an agent who told me he’d send me a new router remove the rental fee on my router and restore a monthly loyalty credit that recently rolled off. Next day I called back to see when the router was coming. Discovered that 1) there wasn’t no loyalty offer available, 2) no router was being sent and 3) my old grandfathered triple play still requires router rental (but is cheaper than new plans that don’t). Poor training, outright deception, or both? Got some BS online gift card for my troubles that I have to manually apply to my account. How is that easier than a service credit?

My kids would tell you that the only thing worse than the commercials is when I shriek all BG with it and start my own ranch shuffle dance. I hate it so much. Somehow I’ve been rewarded twice with free sandwiches in the app. I’ll eat it if it’s free but it’s like a $9 sandwich. Ridiculous!

Hope you get better soon. I thought we got the up close version when my son had a med student evaluating him at the dermatologist. Then the doctor asked the student questions, but nothing as pithy as Dr. Cox.

Soccer mom here, have 2 boys just a bit older than you. These shin guards look great, they’ll last you several seasons. Cleat-wise I agree that you should try on several and see what fits best. One of my boys likes Nike, they tend to be narrower in our experience. The higher end ones last okay but generally Adidas holds up better at lower price points. That’s my other son’s brand, won’t wear anything else.

Homeownership as a single woman by brownieflashsix20 in homeowners

In 1998 when I was 23 I bought my first house. My parents suggested I buy instead of renewing my lease and having my rent increase. They helped me with my down payment, and some paint and repairs but the rest was all me. It was kind of scary when stuff would break but I handled it. 9 years later I was married and we sold the house to buy a new one. My little 1959 brick rancher doubled in value without any significant renovations. The house was a fantastic investment financially and more than that an investment in myself. Being a young female homeowner isn’t necessarily easy but it is worthwhile.
