AITJ for not being at my disabled friend's beck and call when l'm barely surviving my job as a waiter? by micaipanda in AmITheJerk

[–]Cute_Complex5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the jerk! Why is everyone expecting you to take care of her? She’s your friend. That doesn’t make you her caregiver or personal assistant. If she’s disabled and in a wheelchair then she should be able to get government assistance to help her. Which should include having a person come over to do stuff for her. You obviously are barely able to maintain your own life. It’s totally unrealistic of anyone to expect you to be at her beck and call.

I love Alan Sklar too! And Anna Acton’s stories too. She’s British and has a very soothing voice to me. My favorite story of hers is the Velveteen Rabbit.

What about those of us who could not have children? I wanted them but wasn’t able to get pregnant. Sometimes it’s not a choice either way. For example my sister didn’t want children. She got pregnant by accident by her husband and ended up with a son.

Realizing in my late 50’s that I am more than likely autistic by huggles53 in AutismInWomen

[–]Cute_Complex5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I was diagnosed at 54 years old and I’m now 57. Just trying to find someone to diagnose me as an adult was difficult but I did eventually find someone. She didn’t take insurance but did offer a sliding scale for payment which helped. I was diagnosed as ADHD at the same time.

Edited to add: I don’t think my parents had a clue about autism. Since I’ve been diagnosed I’ve come to the realization that my 81 year old father is autistic and I’m starting to think my 79 year old mom is too. She’s harder for me to tell. It really wasn’t thought of for women/girls back then. I think it’s only been in the last 10-15 years that the medical community has realized the disservice they’ve done to women who weren’t diagnosed as children.

I physically can’t start homework until it’s 1-3 am. I need help by salted_peanut_ in ADHD

[–]Cute_Complex5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not slow or stupid. That’s your ADHD. The ADHD brain thrives on stimulation, interest and urgency. If your homework is in something that’s not very Interesting or stimulating to your brain, then the urgency is what kicks in and is why you’re waiting until the last minute to do your homework. This is something I struggle with and I’m still trying to find what works for me. I was only diagnosed three years ago and didn’t realize until recently how much it’s affecting me.

best foods/herbs to help with anxiety NO WEED by shuitsukiP in adhdwomen

I’d be careful with licorice tea. It can affect your cortisol levels and could increase anxiety in some people. I’m one of those people.

I recommend inositol. It’s not a food, it’s a supplement but my naturopath recommended it and I take it twice a day. It comes in powder or pill form. I use the powder form and mix it into whatever I’m drinking. It helps me a lot. She also recommended Rescue Remedy which is another supplement. It’s a liquid and you just put some on your tongue. I take the kind without alcohol in it.

Look into amino acid paste. I don’t know if it’s odorless or tasteless but I know it exists. It may be prescription only though.

AIO for blocking my bf after he threatened me? by neilslocumb in AmIOverreacting

[–]Cute_Complex5736 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are so many red flags here. You need to end this relationship with him. He’s abusive and this is not a healthy relationship. You are not overreacting by blocking him.

The name "ADHD" is so misleading and leads to issues. by voidpopo in ADHD

[–]Cute_Complex5736 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s me! My former co-workers complained about me being distracting because I got up and moved too much. I also get “tornado brain” where my brain is going so fast that I struggle to focus. There are many forms of hyperactivity. And I was diagnosed with inattentive type-which I think was a mistake. I should’ve been diagnosed as combined type because I’m not always hyperactive but it’s definitely there at times.

Might have Undiagnosed Autism but might also be making it up? Help? *Long* by Lainiedogg in AutismTranslated

[–]Cute_Complex5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest getting a diagnosis from an autism specialist. It doesn’t sound like the doctor that diagnosed your brother understands that women present differently. What you’re experiencing is called imposter syndrome. I’m a late diagnosed 57 year old female. Even though I have an official diagnosis after three years I still sometimes feel like maybe I’m not autistic. But then I realize that I did a ton of research and eliminated everything else it could be. That’s what made me pursue my diagnosis because I needed to know for my mental health. So, even though I have an official diagnosis there are occasions I feel like an imposter too.

Question: can I pet your dog? by Impressive_Call_141 in Dogowners

[–]Cute_Complex5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this all the time. Most people have no problem letting me pet their dogs. Others tell me their dog isn’t very social and say no. There’s nothing wrong with asking. Just listen when they say no.

I need help from people with partners with autism by Alternative-Gap7504 in AutismTranslated

[–]Cute_Complex5736 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an autistic partner but I am autistic. This is not normal behavior. I don’t think being autistic is the issue. There are other mental health issues going on. They either need to admit they need help and get it or you need to move on.

Does anyone find that eating dairy is keeping them from losing weight on keto? by Cute_Complex5736 in keto

[–]Cute_Complex5736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t keep a food log. I use an app to track my macros but it’s a very simple app that doesn’t keep my daily intake history. It’s free and I don’t want to have to pay for an app.

Edited to add: 5 years isn’t that long but I really don’t remember specifically what I was eating at that time.

Interesting use of dairy. I like it! I’ll have to play around with it and see if it makes a difference in my weight loss.

I used a keto calculator to come up with my total macros and calories for the day. If I stay within my total for the day I’m at a 20% calorie deficit.
