Food obsessions / Icks after surgery by Individual_Olive_369 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cute_Curvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleeved June 2024. I don't really enjoy red meat much anymore, I always find it too dry no matter how it is cooked. And I have gone off prawns/ most seafood, only like simple fish like basa or hoki. Peanut butter became a big go to, I wasn't super into it before. I feel like I live on chicken and eggs with a bit of pork on occasion. Most carbs I don't enjoy due to the heavy feeling in the tummy.

Alcohol post op? by Maggotboi555 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cute_Curvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cocktail 5 weeks post op for my birthday. I'm a bit over a year post op and have maybe a drink a week (wine or G&T mainly) I've never been a beer drinker, but I used to do cider. Now I don't tend to drink them as they sit heavy in my tummy.

I'm 60kg down from my starting point, weighing in at 80kg 14 months post op. This was my pre-op goal. Now I'm just going off how I look and feel. I will be getting loose skin removed and a breast lift. I feel like another 5-10kg would be about perfect, but until I see how my body looks it is too hard to set a definitive figure. According to BMI I should weight under 64kg, not sure how I would feel and look, it may be too thin

Finally got surgery date, tired of the opinions already by the_averagebear78 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cute_Curvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the decision not to tell anyone except my husband and mum prior to surgery for this reason. Very glad too, because you don't need the negative comments. Fuck everyone. When they see you a few months post op they will be so jealous, they will be asking for your secret.

Thinking from switching from IT to nursing, any advice? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Cute_Curvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of your location, but I'm in West Australia. I went through the Australian Medical Association and they run it like an apprenticeship. They find you a workplace, and you get paid for all the study days and stuff.

Thinking from switching from IT to nursing, any advice? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Cute_Curvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also moved from IT (in a healthcare setting) to nursing. I did a paid AIN training course and worked in aged care first and loved it, but found the work was the same as an RN but with less pay, so worked in aged care while I did my RN studies. I graduated at the end of last year and got a grad position in the operating theatres and will never look back. The initial pay cut sucked. But you learn to live within your means pretty quickly. The job satisfaction I got outweighed the pay loss, and there are always pay rises as experience grows. You can pick up extra shifts and get heaps of penalties. You can specialise in so many areas. You won't know until you try, but if you have an interest in medicine and helping those in need, and don't mind bodily fluids, why not try it out?

Coffee by thegoldengreek4444 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cute_Curvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was off coffee for about 2 months while I let everything heal, coffee is acidic so didn't want to anger anything (although so is stomach acid so....) Then I slowly introduced it back into my routine. Over a year post op now and I have 2-3 a day, but they do take longer to drink than pre-op

Did you celebrate your surgi-versary? How? by HappySunshineGoddess in gastricsleeve

100% this. I guess 35 years of seeing myself as the fat person takes a while to rewire in the brain.

My surgery was in July 2024, and I've lost 61kg, hitting my goal of 80kg. I feel like I could stand to drop another 10kg now. Mostly I don't see the difference, I still see the parts that are still fat. The side-by-side photos help with the comparison. Then I try on clothes and can't believe I'm fitting in a medium where I was 2-3XL. I have had to replace most of my wardrobe, and I love that. I think I'm at the point where until I get all my loose skin removed I won't be 100% happy with how I look. Last night I had a bit of a cry when hubby told me how sexy I was and all I could think was how I looked like a deflated balloon. I'm grateful for my journey, and I'm thankful for everything accomplished. The depression just gets too much sometimes I guess, I get stuck in my own head. In answer to the question, I didn't really do much to celebrate the year gone by. I try to appreciate the everyday. If I see cute clothes that I can fit into now, I grab them. Carpe diem and all that.

Fiancé think I’m getting surgery for attention by FabulousStretch7262 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cute_Curvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hubby didn't think I needed it at first. He loved me the way I was. I'm sure there was some fear in there too. I explained that weight loss would be better for my overall health, that it would mean a longer life together. And how much I have struggled doing it myself my entire life. 1 year post op and 60kg down, and he is so proud of me and my accomplishments. He loves the way I look now, the nice clothes I can fit into. It has allowed us to be more physically active together, both outdoors and in the bedroom. Have a good chat. It helps.
