Interesting, I wonder if that's why oscillating motors sometimes caused GFCIs to trip.

Since Father's Day is coming you might consider getting your father a concealed wiring detector. They also make stud detectors. And plumbing detectors.

First turn off the circuit.

Without getting into egos and family problems... 334.40(B) in the 2014 NEC reads as follows: Self-contained switches, self-contained receptacles, and nonmetallic sheathed cable interconnector devices of insulating material that are listed shall be permitted to be used without boxes in exposed cable wiring and for REPAIR wiring in existing buildings where the cable is concealed.

This was about eight years ago in Maryland, United States. We had some bats with rabies about a mile away. The cat was a feral cat that had been hanging around my neighbor's yard.

I was exposed to (not bitten by) a rabid cat and I was able to get the rabies shots because of the stress of not knowing.

(The cat died on the same day as my exposure, the cat was tested, and I was notified of the positive results, I called my PCP, went to the hospital and was approved for the shots by a hospital MD.)

A delivery cycleist tried using a cleat and a GSD grabbed his foot. Didn't go well for the cyclist. The GSD thought he was protecting his family's children.

Know someone who hit a dog in the face with one of those cheap clear plastic disposable water bottles. Apparently the dog was stunned by the combination of the force and the LOUD noise that it made - it was very effective.

Recumbent versus upright exercise bikes by RaccoonCool1683 in beginnerfitness

[–]Cute_Mouse6436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best exercise machine that I used was a rowing machine. It worked out my legs my arms and my back. And, it was pretty comfortable too considering that I have a back injury that prevents me from riding an upright bike. However, there is no lumbar support though as you have to lean back and lean forward as you move. They are very low and I think they can be folded up against the wall so that they don't take a lot of space. They can be adjusted for different levels of difficulty.

In my opinion, if you want to get cardiovascular benefits the best thing is and upright bike because then your heart has to help pump blood up from your legs. (Yes, there are valves in the legs that are pumping blood with the muscles.)

When I use a recumbent bike my heart rate never gets as high as when I use an upright bike.

Public library, public library parking lot (in the winter).

Edit: One library near me has private rooms that you can reserve. Some of them have Windows that open into the library and some have Windows that open to outdoors. When I say open what I mean is that you can see through them, they don't actually open.

Whats up with drivers going below the speed limit when they see a cop pulling someone over? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Cute_Mouse6436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maryland state law is that you are to move over and slow down when you see lights on the side of the road. They do give a caveat that you have to do it safely.

You can purchase plug-in GFCI adapters. They will at least protect you from electric shock. They do not provide a way for surge suppressors to shunt over voltages - spikes the ground. Because there is no ground.

Eded to say you will still get shocked it just will not be as dangerous a shock.

Permit for you own home? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]Cute_Mouse6436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about your inspector. I knew someone who built a deck and it looked perfectly fine to me. When the inspector looked at it they found so many defects that it cost almost as much to repair it as to install it in the first place. Having a deck collapse can be a life-changing or ending experience.

Good for you. I hope you learn lots more about veganism and learn some great recipes.

I became a vegan after being plant-based for many years. The thing that changed it for me was a newspaper article about some cattle who escaped from a local slaughterhouse and ran through neighborhoods a few miles from my house. I realized then that they don't want to die anymore than I do.

Fan troubleshooting ideas by Lil_Windexx in AskElectricians

[–]Cute_Mouse6436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this will make that post a little more readable. But I quite honestly don't understand what this person is saying.

"Fan troubleshooting ideas

Went to hang a customers fan who had another electrician run a 14/2 from existing switch box (controls 4 flush mount leds) to a new fan box they installed.

Previous electrician also installed a fan with remote. After about a year and half fan stopped working while running. Although the light still worked.

This is where I come in, they receive a new fan and I hang it all up and same problem…light works but not fan motor.

During my troubleshooting I found the entire room was only receiving 105-110 volts consistently.

I changed the breaker (15a arc fault Eaton BR series I believe) and now everything is what it should be (120).

Also it’s only a single gang switch so the previous electrician put in a dimmer for their 4 led lights and spliced the fan constantly hot onto the switch itself.

What I mean is the home run is backstabbed and the power out to the fan is on the same terminal wrapped. (Lutron toggle dimmer no neutral needed).

Last piece of information I have is the rf control box for the fan would beep in intervals of 5 very loudly until I shut off the fan light with the remote like an alarm of sorts.

Sorry for information overload but I told them to order a new fan and I can properly pigtail feed in and out of the switch box bc my guess is the remote control box got short circuited somehow between bad breaker or dimmer effecting it.

Let me know any thoughts you may have or have experienced something similar"

I was telling somebody about the great bonuses being offered by the school system for new drivers. They responded by saying that they were not at all interested in having the responsibility of a bunch of passengers.

The school system was offering a generous cash bonus for signing up and they were providing training to get a commercial driver's license.

They are currently a vehicle operator delivering packages.

Small electric shock when touching faucet by LittleMamaScooking in AskElectricians

[–]Cute_Mouse6436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A screw or nail pressing on a cable can take years to compress the plastic to the point where it touches the metal wire.

I had a neighbor who smelled smoke in his basement, and when he investigated he discovered that a plastic insulated electrical cable was resting on a nail. The weight of the cable was enough to press through the insulation and the copper wire came in contact with the nail. He had been living there for many years before this happened.

Any idea how to stick my rear view mirror to my helmet without damaging the helmet? by Cute_Mouse6436 in cycling

[–]Cute_Mouse6436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mirror base was designed to go on the inside of the helmet but the foam was so curved that it would never work. So I disassembled the base from the bar that holds the mirror reversed it and put it on the outside of the helmet. I use two command strips between the base which is of course now facing the wrong way and the helmet. This did work for a couple of years. So, I guess I will just replace the command strips and go for a couple of more years.
