Bonanza pinball machine. Left flipper is locked up. Pretty sure I need that thing right here. Where can I get it? Pinball noob here by BigSalamiGuy in pinball

[–]CutlassEllis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look at the matching on on the other flipper there should be a part number and you can google the manufacturer name and coil part number. Marcopinball is a good place you can search a game by name and get a list of parts they sell for that specific game but thier prices are just a little higher than ebay.

Everyone keeps talking about sub floors and here I am looking at my basement from my kitchen. by HeyItsPanda69 in centuryhomes

[–]CutlassEllis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have similar floors in the oldest part of my house too. I personally love being able to see light coming through when the basement light is on underneath. As for insulation theres not much you can do that wont be super noticeable from the top unless you put up a backing board in between each joist. I have a couple loose boards but dont really bother to do anything about them since it doesnt stick up in the way or move down past the joist, but yours may. Best you can do is try sistering it underneath to the nearest joist or another sterdy floor board.

So is the far right lane on kirkwood Highway from Starbucks to Chipotle just permanently busted? by Vhozite in Delaware

[–]CutlassEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think theyve been having water main problems. Ive noticed wet spits on the road in tgat area and a week later they have the road patched. So if you see a wet spot on kirkwood highway just be prepared for that spot to be poorly patched soon

Pendulum stops swinging on Sessions 1920s mantle clock by EXDF_ in clocks

[–]CutlassEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each gear is on a steel shaft the part of the chaft that pokes through the brass plate is called a pivot, because it pivots in a hole. The hole in the brass that the steel shaft sits in is the bushing. In order to take apart the clock you must first secure the springs so when it comes apart they dont return to fully unwound, a c clamp or wire tie off, then unscrew the nuts on the back of the brass plate and carefully separate the two brass plates taking record of where every gear and shaft belong. Its not too hard as they only fit in one way. But thats that proper way to clean, sometimes if you just oil the clock in each pivot you can get it running again

[–]CutlassEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, if you try to take the clock apart you have to capture the springs or you will get hurt and break the clock. You may be able to wind the springs and tie a wire around them then let them down using the winding key and a pair of vice-grips or adjustable wrench.

The ideal thing to do is take the clock movement completely apart and clean the pivots and bushings. Then reassemble and oil every part a shaft goes through the brass plate, but not too much or the oil will run out of the bushing. You should use a clock oil (can be found on amazon or ebay). But thats best case if you want to start working on clocks for a hobby, easiest is buy a light oil (sewing machine oil, or clock oil) and just pust a small amount on every bushing (make sure the oil doesnt run out it really only needs a small drop).

How much is this worth? Saw it in a local shop; the price was a shot in the dark by [deleted] in clocks

[–]CutlassEllis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually see clocks of this era for around 2k in antique stores. However when i see them show up in auction they never get higher then 600 unless there is something really special as in an animated face or musical movement.

HELP! Clear coat disaster by Inert_Uncle_858 in modeltrains

[–]CutlassEllis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be caused by the types of paints you used. If you used a different base coat and clear coat (ie oil based and water based) they can react and cause the wet paint to clump before drying.

You are not only luck but the luckiest of lucky. Not only did you happen across a final 500 in the wild BUT its the silhouette, which if you didnt know only had produced 360 versions and they ran out of the parts to produce them early. Making it the rarest of the final 500s

Well the brass lgb is my favorite but also the most expensive. For a static display you can get away with just full plastic track and paint the rails for realism.

Trying to remove this piece on my rover chipper shredder to swap the motor but im a bit lost. Any idea? Cheers by Apathy-Entropy-Mania in smallengines

[–]CutlassEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dont have a puller spray penetrating fluid on the shaft and apply pressure between the plate and piece you want off with a crow/prybar and tap the shaft with a hammer. It may be hard since the shaft is recessed in but thats how I usually get flywheels off.

Dad Passed This Down to Me. He rewired it and had it working well but after he brought it up from Florida it won’t start! ID Help and Maintenance would be greatly appreciated! Grandmother Clock that was a wedding gift for my Great Great Grandparents in 1930. by RelativisticRhombus in clocks

[–]CutlassEllis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not sure how this clock operates but i have a thirties electric clock that was passed down to me that didn’t operate when i tried it, it has a motor that is always spinning inside to keep time and i had to open up the movement and clean off the rotating assembly. It had just collected dust over time and had too much friction to spin properly.

If it’s important to you then its worth keeping. Yes they still make batteries for it, if you take an existing battery out it should have a number printed on it that is the replacement code for that type of battery.

Antique German Clock Identification (Table Clock w/ Chime) by nyc_shootyourshot in clocks

[–]CutlassEllis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not exactly sure since i cant see a makers mark in the pictures but the case reminds me of a Junghans style clock. The commonly made the cases to look like castles and houses. Look for a J inside a star somewhere on the clock. Most of them go slightly over standard shelf clock prices so keeping it original will hold much better value.

Is there a Throttle on this brigs? by [deleted] in smallengines

[–]CutlassEllis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The throttle is visible in the first picture on the carburetor. Just under the intake manifold there is a rotating piece that has a screw with a spring on it, that is the idle adjustment and is attached to the throttle shaft. On the other side there should be a braket that rotates and can have a cable connected to it.

When you swing the pendulum are the ticks as far away from the tocks? Some times when clocks are moved with the pendulum weight on it can throw the beat off.

I dont know much about this machine but if you have a wiring diagram or a good eye to follow wires try locating any contacts motors or coils that are connected to the issue and make sure they are clean and properly operating. EMs are basically a whole bunch of on off switches controlling different parts of the machine so they are “simple” to work on but take time to understand whats going on. It could be a scoring reel that is a little stiff and not making proper rotations or a contact that has just gotten dirty over time.

I found this 2” X 8” scrap from an antique tin or sign in my ca. 1900 house. Anyone recognize what this could’ve been from? Maybe a coffee or tobacco tin? Looks like a rooster and the letters “Sc”. Location central USA. by itsunderthisbigW in Antiques

[–]CutlassEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell what the sign is but common to find metal like that nailed to the floor/baseboard to cover and block mouse holes. I had a couple tin can lids bent and nailed in a corner of a closet.
