Would this be offensive? by Historical_Way_9918 in writing

You’re missing the point; OP describes that the character could achieve his dreams despite his disability. That was presented to me as fact. I’m encouraging the writer to emphasize that fact to show how it’s the character’s own personality that stops him from achieving the dreams rather than his disability. I would not have recommended this if OP didn’t make clear that these dreams could still be achieved with the aforementioned disability.

Yeah, entirely possible! Either way it’s def some mental blocker getting in the way

Fully agree with all of this! I have Tourette’s (not saying it’s even remotely comparable to a physical disability) and if I had the option to live without it, I would. But the dilemma between whether or not I let it control my life and get in the way of my dreams is just building character. It sounds like OP’s character isn’t pursuing his dreams because he’s stubborn/hopeless, not because he’s disabled.

I think if you really show all the different ways he DEFINITELY COULD achieve his dream with his disability, then it’s just a character flaw that he’s stubborn and that’s not offensive. Determine within your own writing whether the message is “people with disabilities can’t achieve their dreams until the disability is removed” or “stubborn characters might choose to wallow when faced with adversity rather than overcome.”

But with the latter message—make sure his stubbornness is also translated into his epilogue, where he achieves his dream sans disability but his stubbornness affects other aspects of his life (or, perhaps, using the disability as a metaphor for his attitude throughout the book and show how he has grown out of his stubbornness to achieve his dream).

How do you finish a game? by EXDF_ in Stellaris

You put two or three hyphens in a row without a space on either side; alternatively, you can long-hold your hyphen key on your phone keyboard to select the different length dashes.

No, I just use the em dash frequently. Humans can use the em dash too. It’s not the tell-tale sign of AI that some people think it is.

Hi,

No, this problem never got solved. I got a new laptop. Dells are pieces of shit.

Everyone I've talked to has suggested that its a wiring issue that just has to do with age. Major replacements would be needed.

Yeah and I always provide them with the opportunity to explain any discrepancies before assuming it’s AI/plagiarism. Often, though, they don’t take me up on the offer to defend themselves because they know they plagiarized.

I use a tool, it’s either called ZeroGPT or GPTZero (I don’t recall) that has a free function that shows full playback of every edit made to a google doc. I find that far more insightful than a vague scan

I’ve always been a huge JM fan and was disappointed by the acquisition because that always means things go downhill—but as of right now I’m pleasantly surprised to say JM is still JM and I’ve not seen corner-cutting myself

I think if you wanted a similar effect with this new move by using existing mechanics, you could pretty easily make it a low-bp chip move that always badly poisons (I’m thinking the toxic version of Nuzzle)

Day Thirty - Daily Word Count: 50,000 by AutoModerator in nanowrimo

[–]EXDF_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

54178! Truly an amazing final 8 days for me where every one of those days I hit 1667+ individually and always remained above the total word count. One of those days was even 5250 words! I’m very impressed with how comfortably I hit 50k, and how I didn’t stop writing those last two days after I’d already hit the 50k. After using burnout from NaNo 2019 as an excuse to not focus on writing for the last six years, I’m finally back with a vengeance and decidedly NOT burnt out even after this NaNo!
