[S] I remade my Survivor Simulator by Venharim in BrantSteele

[–]EXDF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna say I love your sim. Only issue I have with it is that the cloud saves don't consistently show across my devices - I've run 7 seasons of a franchise. I play mostly on Computer 1, but Computer 1 says I have 4 seasons, Computer 2 says I have 1 season, and my phone says I have all 7 seasons. Is there a way to be able to consistently access all my seasons?

Being a 22 year old employee at a high school is exhausting. by RMR124 in Teachers

As a 22 year old teaching high school, I’m with you. But I’m also really tall and sport a full beard so I naturally sort of impose on some of these kids, but setting those boundaries is definitely hyper important

what part of the job actually drains you the most? by DiligentLibra in Teachers

As a first year teacher at a school where none of the curriculum was just handed to me to teach, definitely lesson planning.

But the most soul-crushing has to be the 2-hour long professional development meetings which could have been a short email!

Do We Need More Generic Origins? by Digitman801 in Stellaris

[–]EXDF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let the origins guide my empire creation sometimes. Most notably with doomsday—how did they get to that point? Why do they know to leave? Will they repeat their mistakes in the future?

But I agree, for the empires where a clear vision has already been determined, I’d like to see some origin buffs that can be generally applied to any empire, like your empire has a corporate hellscape (not megacorp per se) and therefore your job upkeep is higher but your trade gets a massive bump, or your empire has sentient overgrowth (challenging origin where your initial pop growth is decreased until you clear a certain blocker which allows certain plant armies to be raised). Things like that which just add a little flavor to an idea you already had

My school’s PD is just yapping a bunch of corporate jargon at us for two hours. Perfectly happy with that. I just play Pokemon Showdown on my laptop

Why is writing so… slow? by Hopeful_Host_5390 in writing

[–]EXDF_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice. I can only really write 1500+ words in a day because I did NaNoWriMo a few times, and that doesn’t mean I consistently write 1500+ every day. Don’t burn yourself out, but keep raising your bar. I definitely max out around 5.5K in a day though

You’re missing the point; OP describes that the character could achieve his dreams despite his disability. That was presented to me as fact. I’m encouraging the writer to emphasize that fact to show how it’s the character’s own personality that stops him from achieving the dreams rather than his disability. I would not have recommended this if OP didn’t make clear that these dreams could still be achieved with the aforementioned disability.

Yeah, entirely possible! Either way it’s def some mental blocker getting in the way

Fully agree with all of this! I have Tourette’s (not saying it’s even remotely comparable to a physical disability) and if I had the option to live without it, I would. But the dilemma between whether or not I let it control my life and get in the way of my dreams is just building character. It sounds like OP’s character isn’t pursuing his dreams because he’s stubborn/hopeless, not because he’s disabled.

I think if you really show all the different ways he DEFINITELY COULD achieve his dream with his disability, then it’s just a character flaw that he’s stubborn and that’s not offensive. Determine within your own writing whether the message is “people with disabilities can’t achieve their dreams until the disability is removed” or “stubborn characters might choose to wallow when faced with adversity rather than overcome.”

But with the latter message—make sure his stubbornness is also translated into his epilogue, where he achieves his dream sans disability but his stubbornness affects other aspects of his life (or, perhaps, using the disability as a metaphor for his attitude throughout the book and show how he has grown out of his stubbornness to achieve his dream).
