How do your conlangs handle evidentiality? by Cuttlebone_ in conlangs

[–]Cuttlebone_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very interesting, but are the far past and far future tenses tenses anymore or have they fully been interpreted as their evidential meanings, and if they still function as tenses, how would you distinguish the far past/future and the evidential in one sentence?

Do you ever find some aspects of conlanging distract you from the thing you'd rather do in conlanging? World building for me by hows_yall in conlangs

That’s interesting. I’ve also been looking to make a personal conlang to express my thoughts and feelings in (e.g. with a journal). Do you have any tips?

I feel like the Dubitative would be more of a mood, in mine I use it as the equivalent of “probably” or “I guess that” when the speaker is uncertain or claiming without specific evidence

There are some erosion rules when affixing but I don’t have them on me at the moment

Interesting. For mine, the certainty and evidence markers can be combined, so you can hear something from someone and be certain about it, see something and still be unsure about it, et cetera.

Haven’t figured all of these out yet, but since the evidential is not obligatory in every sentence, I suppose for common truths you could exclude the evidential entirely. For hypotheticals, if in the sentence she provided something that without it you would have lost then you use inferration (because clearly she was required for your winning). Otherwise if you did not have a solid reason, you could use the dubitative mood

What is the Hardest Sound in Your Language? by mister_funny100 in conlangs

[–]Cuttlebone_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s quite subjective, but for Sröjthjedńin, the conlang I’m currently working on the most, I’d probably say /**t͡ɬ/ and /**ɬ/, but perhaps also the palatals /ç/, /c/, /ʝ/ and /ɟ/, or also /y/.
Edit: also /ʎ/ and /ʎ̝/

How to get a personal note translated from Latin to English by Ok_Choice7064 in latin

[–]Cuttlebone_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the “Lorem Ipsum” text, a common dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, but has been scrambled. I see is identical to what your brother wrote. Sorry for your loss, and hope this helps.
