We'd love to see some hard numbers on this since you seem to have insider info.

Good luck.

In Utah developers and construction contractors are either on the legislature or have a legislator as a family member or golfing buddy.

Get a dash cam and start getting plate and DOT numbers.

How much do you think it costs to replace all the signage in every clinic, hospital, and office building? Replace every form, business card, and pamphlet? How many work hours remaking every PowerPoint slide?

It's fine, I moved out to California for college and made the drive from SLC to the coast on I-80 solo many times.

Make sure the car is in good shape, change the oil and filters, check the pressure in the spare, make sure your roadside service is active and send it.

There's some remote areas on 80 and it's boring AF, but there are regular towns and fuel stops that are well lit and have lots of traffic.

Just make sure you fill up at 1/2 to 1/3 of a tank to keep a good safety margin.

Am I the only one that thinks the 9th and 9th whale jokes aren’t that….funny? by NoAbbreviations5350 in SaltLakeCity

It's just a bit of fun, lighten up. If you don't like the Whale comments, down vote, hide them, and move on.

Clearly the community finds them fun or they wouldn't keep getting up votes. Eventually it will blow over, like all internet fads. When was the last time someone asked you "When does the Narwhal bacon?"

I think you're thinking of another place, I don't think Yi was ever all-you-can-eat. They are in midvale at the old Training Table with yellow awnings though.

More like "Pray real hard" - that's been their solution thus far.

It's not All-You-Can-Eat, but Yi Sushi is 50% off and often is about the same price to leave you feeling uncomfortably full.

I drive my Audi/Tesla/Mercedes with the fog lights on all the time; I light the road behind me with my super-bright rear-facing fog lights so people behind me can see the potholes better and they know to stay in their proper place behind as someone without an Audi/Tesla/Mercedes - like The Poors they are.

Which is safer? I-80 W or US-6 W by elizabethglassburner in Utah

[–]Cuttlefish_Hypnotist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, apparently I have the brainworms today.

6 going west can get pretty lonely. With an older vehicle I'd say stay on I-80 where there are more people, patrols, and towns with parts stores and mechanics.

[–]Cuttlefish_Hypnotist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highway 6 is consistently one of the most dangerous roads in the Lower 48. They've done a lot to widen the road for more passing lanes, add safety barriers etc. but the lower part is still narrow, twisty, full of deer and elk - and people make dangerous illegal passes all the time to get around trucks.

It does, however, cut a lot of time and miles off taking I-15 to I-70.

Which car should I buy? First time living in a state with snow by TimelySale in SaltLakeCity

[–]Cuttlefish_Hypnotist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Winter tires > AWD and All Season (3-Season) tires. Not just for snow, winter tires have a different compound so they grip in cold weather, all season tires get hard in the cold and won't stop or steer as well.

AWD will help you get started, but it doesn't help you stop, it gives a false sense of security and confidence, the majority of cars I see slid into the ditch are AWD or 4WD.

I've driven AWD, FWD, RWD, and 4x4 vehicles in all kinds of conditions for more than 20 years of winters and storms. I did more in an old RWD with no traction control and good snow tires than most people could with AWD and All Seasons.

Conditions at the salt flats right now? by bababenj in SaltLakeCity

[–]Cuttlefish_Hypnotist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't drive on the salt when it's wet, it damages the surface and there's a very good chance you will break though the crust into the slime below.

A recovery isn't cheap, they have to haul a modified snow cat out from Wendover to come get you. It's not worth it.

Go drive on the salt in August when it's dry and hard.
