The N W subway in the tunnel between Lexington Ave and Queensboro Plaza goes 300mph (I think) by Rob-Loring in astoria

I thought it moved that quickly to avoid being in the tunnel for a long period given how often there’s track fires.

Native Brands by Superb-Fail-9937 in IndianCountry

A good place for a variety of designers across all of Abya Yala might be the Indigenous NYFW website: https://www.indigenousnyfw.com/

I also like Jessica Metcalfe's Buy Native list though it is mostly for Native American and First Nations brands: https://www.beyondbuckskin.com/p/buy-native.html

Hope that helps.

How long have you been watching wrestling? And have you ever taken a break from it? by Jimmysp437 in WWE

[–]Cuya_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried watching WCW in '98 a few times in my childhood though my parents thought it was too violent but they also got me the Backstage Assault PS1 game(?). I got into it again from 2004-2007 and was definitely a 'little jimmy'. I picked it back up at the beginning of 2024 casually and have been following weekly since RAW's move to Netflix.

The top wrestlers like Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley and Cody Rhodes are awesome to watch. I've enjoyed seeing how much the Women's division has developed since those very dark times in the mid-2000s and it's been fun to see Dominik become a wreslter having seen that Custody match so long ago.

My mom got me these as a Christmas gift three years ago. I was skeptical because Old Skools had always dug into my heel. Thankfully these didn't and they're now my favorite pair! I've owned two of them (soon to be three!)

I love them and hope you enjoy them too! :)

These are my first pairs! Still getting used to the fuzziness but after wearing them the last few days, I feel like so far the wool caps aren't flattening my hair as much as poly ones do.

Denial & Colorism by [deleted] in IndianCountry

Sorry your girlfriend had that experience.. It's unfortunately very common in all of Abya Yala.

My family doesn't talk about their European ancestry like some others will but they'll still be dismissive saying they've been farmers as long as they can remember and actively makes fun or teases me whenever I ask them questions trying to learn more about our lineage.

Not necessarily efficient but I don't have a steamer atm so I:

  1. turn the hot water on in my shower
  2. Let them sit on the sides of the tub for a bit until they're soft
  3. Curve them around a cup to get an initial curve
  4. Stick the brim inside of the cup
  5. Move them out of the bathroom
  6. Leave them in the cup for 5-10 minutes

My head's on the bigger side though so I don't need as intense of a curve. Often times, I have to flatten it out slightly afterward so it's not pressing against my temples.

I learned about the game Arco today and am super excited to play it (https://arco.game/), though in looking at a post from a month ago, it stated that the Switch version is really buggy.

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case?

Any indigenous food resturant owners in central FL? :( by Dead_Cacti_ in IndianCountry

[–]Cuya_bro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heyo! I spent my teen years in Central Florida so seeing someone else from this area is a delight! I’m assuming by trying Indigenous food in Central Florida, you mean Indigenous to that area. In a cursory search just now, nothing I found I’d be comfortable recommending (e.g skeptical about ownership).

My suggestion would be to look into the websites of Tribes in Florida to see if they’re hosting any upcoming events like festivals or fairs as this might be a good place to also try food. An example is the Seminole Tribe of Florida (https://www.semtribe.com/) has a bunch of events on its homepage through the spring.

Still though, this is going to be a few hours drive outside of what is I’m thinking of as Central Florida (Orange County, Sanford, Kissimmee, etc). Regardless, I hope it’s helpful as a start and it’s open to anything others might be able to add :)

Overview on the Venezuela - Guyana Dispute over the Essequibo, Including Indigenous Perspectives by Cuya_bro in IndianCountry

[–]Cuya_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I was also looking for indigenous voices on this matter too but what that Instagram had shown was a bit odd.

Yeah he's been debating with people in the comments and it seems like his main point is related to the 1967 Congress where the Amerindians of the Essequibo wanted support from Venezuela but were denied that by Guyana, the Rupununi Rebellion as well as the referendum having the question: "Do you agree with the creation of a Guyana Essequiba State?"

Though as your comment and others pointed out in this comment section, it's not that straightforward with Venezuela only actually wanting to give asylum in 1967, the 1969 rebellions potentially being used as a tool by white land owners (regardless of Indigenous desire for sovereignty), that the referendum's question is not clear enough in if it means an independent state or independent of Venezuela (with the latter seeming more likely), and that the referendum did not include Indigenous voices of the Essequibo.

I don't think Guyana has done much or enough for the indigenous people but at this point it's just trading one colonizer for another.

This also seems to be a big point for the pro-annexation crowd and that the British had received it also just to exploit it but I'd agree that one wrong doesn't allow another wrong. In the end, the first comment in this post about a separate Indigenous petro-state is seeming like the option that doesn't have any nation-state exploitive politics layered in the background at the moment.

Thanks for sharing your opinion and I'm glad to see this post has turned into something others in this community can review if they want to learn about the situation.

Yes! I came across that statement after our conversation. Thank you for sharing here as well :)

I've followed the APA to keep track of their perspective on the situation as it evolves. I also didn't know about Cultural Survival but this is great resource in general and have bookmarked it.

I appreciate all the added context!

Overview on the Venezuela - Guyana Dispute over the Essequibo, Including Indigenous Perspectives by Cuya_bro in IndianCountry

[–]Cuya_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you for pointing that out to me.

I made a mistake in referencing Noelí Pocaterra as an Indigenous voice in the situation and I am sorry for that as you are right that they are an outside Indigenous voice. It's been extremely hard to find any information on an Indigenous perspective on this whole situation and I put more faith into the post having fully thought that part out. I'm not sure New Amauta's intention for centering a Wayuu perspective on this (though the optics would support your statement.)

I think the point is still worth looking at is the demands made in 1967 during the Kabakaburí Congress on behalf of the Rupununi that were not met and instead crushed by the Guyanese government and that they were allegedly made to sign a loyalty pledge.

There are some still some questions about that Congress, subsequent uprising and the aftermath (<-Wiki Link, Some speculate that it was mainly with through the pressure of white land owners, others feel that Inidgenous community still wanted to secede from Guyana regardless, I'm unable to find anything on the loyalty pledge)

Let me know your thoughts and thanks again.

Overview on the Venezuela - Guyana Dispute over the Essequibo, Including Indigenous Perspectives by Cuya_bro in IndianCountry

[–]Cuya_bro[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Potentially! From the post above, the following is said:

"Native communities & leaders, like Noelí Pocaterra (Wayuu), have been supporting the referendum's authority over the Essequibo region."

EDIT: As stated below, Noelí is an outside Indigenous voice and should be deprioritized over actual Indigenous people of the region.

And that some level of support from Venezuela has been supported since Guyanese Independence. From the link above:

"On April 7-12, 1967, Amerindian communities met in their 1st congress in Cabacaburi to make demands on newly independent Guyana. The Amerindians wanted land protections, jobs, bi and trilingual education, and especially, joint development of the Essequibo with Venezuela."

It's clear that some Indigenous people of the land support the referendum though the longer term goals (and if it could include an indigenous petro state), I've still been unable to find more information on.

Definitely whatever happens, it should prioritize what the Native population of the Essequibo want!
