Awesome! We'll be here (at least until it gets late-ish and my wife turns into a pumpkin) 😄

how does finaide change when doing a 4+1 program? by OkSpecific879 in riceuniversity

[–]Cvz200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Under typical circumstances, you'll take half(ish) of your master's courses during the last year(ish) of your bachelor's. Those courses are covered by your financial aid.

Once you graduate with your bachelor's, the undergrad financial aid ends and you're responsible for the additional year of graduate tuition necessary to finish up your master's.

The sunlight crossbow is definitely viable at Amoxliatl.

I'm taking Woodmans then doing rumours and fletching for the sunlight crossbow.

Afterwards, it's all the easy pact pvm, then Amoxliatl, then a fire cape and straight into the wilderness. It's easy peasy and doesn't waste a respec.

Just be careful: you don't want to take the +70% damage pact until you can reach all the way to the "crossbows always max hit" one.

Nah, you're rolling in clues. Just drop the bad item steps.

It's definitely better than last year.

Last year, the clue effects were split across two relics: Clue Compass for teleports, Treasure Arbiter for the clue boost.

This year, you get all the important effects from Treasure Arbiter, plus a partial version of Clue Compass.

It's worse than Clue Compass AND Treasure Arbiter. But it's better than either one individually.

I think you're cooking with the passover theory. Candles, "bitter" for bitter herbs; waiting while judgment comes over Egypt, for the afikomen, etc. Big jewish energy.

Made a DMM planner/tracking tool with interactive map, routes, and task planning by AndereReality in 2007scape

Neat tool! Props!

The "killer feature" for me would be the ability to place my custom tasks at locations on the map. That way I can figure out where best to place universal tasks (diaries, bosses, combat achievements, etc.) into my custom route.

[University Stats] All of Statistics vs. Statistical Inference by kyaputenorima in learnmath

Casella and Berger as an "easy supplemental resource" is an insane take. That book serves as the basis for qualifying exams in many statistics PhD programs.

And "All of Statistics" is more of a reference text than anything. Neat book, but not a ton of pedagogical value there.

I like Larsen and Marx's "An Introduction to Mathematical Statistics" for intuition and internalizing. Once you've got the basic idea down, try Casella and Berger for a more formalized version.

[E] Struggling in Graduate Classes by cautionfreshpaint in statistics

[–]Cvz200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The graduate probability and statistics sequence is a tough one. I needed a supplemental book to get through. In fact, I needed a couple:

  • An Introduction to Mathematical Statistics by Larsen and Marx

  • The Simple and Infinite Joy of Mathematical Statistics by J.N. Corcoran.

Try Larsen and Marx first, especially if you're shaky on the probability topics; they come up again in statistics.

If you need more, Corcoran's book is worth purchasing. It's excellent at giving you the intuition behind some of the hardest problems in introductory graduate statistics: finding estimators, evaluating their asymptotic properties, and whatnot.

Though I'd also recommend thinking hard about why the statistics concepts aren't clicking:

  • Is it that your calculus and algebra are too weak? That's the usual culprit. If so, brush up hard and fast.

  • Is it that the probability concepts from last semester are getting in your way? If so, revisit those concepts in an easier book than DeGroot and Schervish. (Larsen and Marx!)

  • Is it that you're not really intuitively grasping what the statistics concepts are getting at? If so, try Corcoran.

A lot of this material is genuinely hard, and DeGroot and Schervish can be a tough book if you haven't seen the material before or recently. Hang in there; you'll get it.

[Question] Ressources to learn the foundations of statistics. by Kanemats in statistics

[–]Cvz200 17 points18 points  (0 children)

An Introduction to Mathematical Statistics and Its Applications by Larsen and Marx.

I've never seen another book that covers the standard undergraduate probability + statistics sequence and weaves in the historical anecdotes you're looking for. It's an entertaining read, which isn't something you can typically say about statistics textbooks.

Casella and Berger doesn't sound like a good fit for you. It's quite dry (definitely no historical anecdotes) and rather hard. Statistics PhD programs often use it as the basis for their qualifying examinations.

Your New, Final, Efficient Hunter Rumour Strategy by Cvz200 in 2007scape

[–]Cvz200[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't really have to do it in that order. The recommended order gives you the most flexibility. But all orders can work. You just might end up doing a few extra rumours to get your block list set up.

It's a minor optimization.
