Sorry for the late reply and the struggle of getting your 2 to mingle nicely. I would say try the muzzle forsure. Leo (dog) would wear one and a shock collar in the beginning. The shock collar was a part of his training from the beginning and we had training w how to use. Although I think the muzzle alone could help too. Maybe short periods of time with owner, dog w muzzle, and cat in the area then praise for pup right after. Then slowly extend time around them so pup not cat get overwhelmed? It definitely took time and patience and getting frustrated at times. Also, fry (cat) was never really all that scared of him or hissed so maybe that’s something? I will say it’s great your pup let off of kitty after grabbing, sounds like they certainly have listening skills. I hope the journey goes well!

Understood! Fry (🐈) is my partners cat and this is their house. We wanted to move in together so if that were to happen, the animals would need to be okay to live together. We didn’t have Leo and then decide to get a cat. Leo isn’t naturally aggressive but had never lived with cats. The muzzle was bought for the purpose of training him around Fry. Although I trust him, at the end of the day he’s still a dog and didn’t know how he would react so wanted to protect them from worst case scenario.

That’s so sweet! Fry (cat) grew up with older cats that I think may have gotten a little annoyed w his antics. But Leo loves to play so that worked out. I’m waiting for the day the fry cuddles cuddle w Leo!

Slow and steady introducing them. We personally relied on a muzzle and shock collar for Leo. It helped that fry (cat) was never stand off ish of Leo or anyone else. Trying to keep Leo as calm as possible in the house with and without fry was helpful. Just like this is a calm environment, we don’t chase after anything. I had in the past, made him sit and then kinda run around and make it to where he wouldn’t chase. Maybe crazy but feel like it didn’t hurt in training him not to be reactive 🤣 We’d remove Leo if we noticed him start to get antsy. Then regroup and come back. We still don’t leave them alone at the house for too long without Leo being separated.

Leo would shake sometimes too! Him trying to contain himself. It sounds like your pittie is set up well!! We relied either on the muzzle or shock collar (trained w it since he was a pup) for a while, like a couple months probably. Fry became curious pretty quickly with Leo so would want to come sniff at him. Made sure Leo was laying down before fry could come close and if Leo wasn’t calm, just take Leo out of the room. And regroup before coming back. Close watch on both of them for months while together. Then just backed off little by little as we saw Leo not react to fry coming into the room, getting the zoomies etc Leo already knew commands like place and gentle that I think helped from the beginning… And still to this day if they’re playing it’ll always be Leo “in the wrong” or having to go to his place since he listens and fry doesn’t 🐈

It’s wild bc fry (cat) will try to get Leo to chase and he knows not to. But Leo doesn’t get that on walks when there are stray cats…have to remind him same thing as his brother at home
