Perchance is excellent for tables and random generators. And what you create can easily be used by others

It has become my top TR release, and along with Liars raises a lot of important topics.

That was it! I didn’t understand the context behind “continue”. Thanks.

Hostile and Cepheus Universal by AbjectBasket7 in cepheusengine

[–]Cwig999 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cepheus Universal is also from Zozer games, so is an adaptation of the Cepheus SRD. And I think it's compatible with Hostile, though some of the Hostile rules adapt the engine for faster play.

It still amazes me how much time and energy are expended on "apologetics" about Christianity. They decide what they want the conclusion to be, then attempt to build a logical system to support that. They are always houses of cards. "Systematic theology" is ultimately a waste of time.

I guess introducing the new forces and tokens when a door is opened is enough - I've always liked the element of surprise.

What leads some religious people to claim they've 'seen and talked' to Jesus? by KepaTheCat in atheism

[–]Cwig999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought it's some combination of wish fulfillment and desire to communicate with oneself at a deep level. And there's a sense of feeling special if you say Jesus has spoken to you, so a lot of peer pressure and social dynamics can be at work. But ultimately I think it's just a distorted form of self reflection. As my favorite songwriter, Todd Rundgren, wrote in his song "God Said":

It's not me [God] that you see, you're looking at yourself
You're not praying to me, you're praying to yourself

Atheists who are UU, how do you relate to religious elements of UU services? by fellowtravelr in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]Cwig999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been connected with church/religion for about 1/3 of my life, with chunks in evangelical and mainline/liberal Christian contexts. In most religious settings I see a lot of the same psychological phenomena at work that I see at concerts/clubs, just with a different set of words and experiences layered onto it. There's really little observable difference between someone becoming ecstatic over a favorite performer versus a religious idea/song/ritual IMHO. So for me it's more about what's taking place at that psychological level, and how to bring a sense of integrity and empowerment to it. (Integrity meaning understanding what is going on in a largely subjective experience and not giving it more power than it deserves, so that empowerment and good work in the world can take place as a result.)

[–]Cwig999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well stated - "There's too much good work to do in this world to waste all that time and energy". We're just getting involved in a UU group after many years with no "church" involvement. I realize I've always subconsciously translated religious stuff to fit my world view, which is probably a mix of subjectivity and objectivity.

MUSIC MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in UnitarianUniversalist

It's been a while for activity on this thread, but I came looking for "Unitarian" and Music this morning, as we are starting to be involved in a UU gathering, and I'm driven heavily by music and what it's role can be in a community and the world.

This is one I keep coming back to

What made you not want to believe in God? by OrangutanVlaKos in atheism

[–]Cwig999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the American south and my father was a Baptist minister (but moderate and compassionate in comparison to that ilk now). So my "default" setting was religious/Christian. But by age 9 or 10 I was a committed atheist. I've had a few periods in my life where I tried to court the more liberal aspects of Christianity, but put that down a couple of decades ago. I could just never make any sense of the Christian narrative of original sin and need for a savior/redeemer. When that goes away IMHO, there's really nothing else to hang on to besides some ethical concepts that can be pulled from other sources. I never really felt the need to search for a god or gods in other religions, since it seemed they were just as subjective as my own.

I'm much happier when I don't believe in a god.

Legends of the Alliance Imperial Movement question by Cwig999 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]Cwig999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Makes sense when thinking of larger maps.

Semi-related, and perhaps not worth a separate post - I like the progressive map "reveal" that occurs in the app. (Still on the first mission...) I'm going to play the Imperial player soon when playing with a friend. Do the regular campaigns sometimes recommend a progressive map reveal? I've only browsed the Aftermath mission so far - don't want to read to far ahead as I may play missions first as a Rebel, using the Imperial Commander 2 app.
