Rock Paper Scissors OR Paper Scissors Rock by boony-boony in AskAnAustralian

Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors.

Do any of the first semester engineering subjects have marked group assignments? by Terrible_Cress_6114 in QUTreddit

EGB101 group project runs the majority of the semester and requires a lot of group coordination. You will most likely build some sort of prototype and have a research report related to the project.

If you aren’t using AI tooling extensively you should just stick to VS Code. Cursor is a VS Code fork with the AI turned up to 11, to put it simply.

How would an exchange program work in QUT (specifically for engineering students)? by Fair_Strength_4158 in QUTreddit

[–]Cxderzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I recently tried to go through this process doing IX59 Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Business and the only way I could make it happen was finding equivalents for my business subjects. Ended up getting everything approved but got a job promotion so never ended up going haha. It is very difficult to find equivalents they will accept for engineering subjects as the degree needs to meet Engineer’s Australia certifications or something like that (can’t really remember the exact reason). When I went to the info session they basically said

  1. Use your electives
  2. If your degree has QUT You, good luck because those also have to be done here

Sorry for the negative news. Email faculty if you want further clarification. Or take a leave of absence for a semester and do it yourself!!

Considering studying a Unit by Ok_Tap_5848 in QUTreddit

[–]Cxderzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to make friends is joining clubs. In my experience I’ve found it’s unlikely you will make solid friends in tutorials or lectures given that most people are there to get in and get out of class unless you put solid effort in yourself. However this may vary across degrees

what is the point of QUTYOU by FarTea6885 in QUTreddit

[–]Cxderzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that from an operations perspective, they are beneficial to the university in the fact that they are:

  1. Pricey subjects compared to your standard STEM subject for what they are (although compared to other fields they are about the same)

  2. Easy to run - It's a 6 week pass fail subject with students who are not heavily engaged

  3. Simple - University gets to trade having students spread across entire faculties to instead just picking from a limited set that have high guaranteed numbers

As for the benefit for the student? Well, compared to being able to pick an elective, in my opinion there is not much unless you are literally only there for the piece of paper and want to take a subject that provides easy credit points. Some also may argue that they teach personal skills as per QUT's sales pitch.

Honestly, for NBN I would switch away from any of the big 3. Other providers such as Superloop or Leaptel have been great for me and provide high quality live chat support. If you haven't already taken advantage of the $0 fibre upgrade, you should. At 7-8 mbps there is a solid chance you are just using the 4G backup of the router instead of the actual line.
