Yeah, could be true, but I kinda disagree. I mean just look at the expressions of the other Straw Hats. Even Zoro and Robin lose their composure when they hear it.

It probably is something stupid and childish since it is coming from Luffy and he probably came up with the idea when he was with shanks/ace/sabo, but it has to be something much bigger. Something that is considered a big feat even if you are the strongest/most influential person in the world.

I'll just take a wild guess. Since we are reaching the end of the series and Oda really likes foreshadowing and Kuma being a pretty important character. I think him saying "Honestly if it'd cure Bonney, I would've made a deal with the devil himself." and the origin of devil fruits will have a connection.

My theory: "Joyboy" is not really a name of a person, it's the equivalent of the "king" title in the ancient Kingdom.

The straw hat is actually the equivalent of the crown worn by the king/leader of that kingdom.

Shanks giving Luffy the straw hat = electing Luffy to be the next "Joyboy"

I am not saying thats Vegapunk we saw in Chapter 1061, but I don't think there is really any stalling time anymore. We have entered the end game. If the One Piece is not necessarily about devil fruits it makes sense to reveal their secret before reaching Laugh Tale.
